“Are you certain you’re not coming with me?”
Tomo was asking his girlfriend one last time in the million time that Maki’s ears would have exploded. If she didn’t love this person, she would surely punch him in the gut and put a tape on his mouth to shut him up. However, she did love this person so much that it pains her to see him leave. She had been dreading this day to come and had been forcing herself to be cheerful especially when Tomo and she were together. They hadn’t been apart like this all their lives and Maki thought it’s about time to have just a little bit of space to see what it’s like to be missing his childhood boyfriend. Besides she didn’t want to be acting so selfishly when it comes to his family. His parents had gotten an early divorce when he was practically small and he barely knew the other half of his blood.
In short, she didn’t want him to worry about her while his away.
She gently touched his handsome face as if her memory of it would vanish the moment he’ll turn towards the boarding entrance. She pushed a few locks of his hair to meet his sad eyes then she spoke.
“Look, this will be your first time meeting your mother and I don’t want to get in the way. Besides, America is not really that far. I can always hop on a plane & be with you in an instant.”
Tomo was about to say something but Maki cut him off with a kiss on the lips. She kissed him so passionately that Tomo responded without thinking. He instinctively cupped her face to deepen the kiss. Maki was a little bit surprised as she felt Tomo’s tongue toying inside her
mouth. Nonetheless, she encircled her arms around his neck as to bring him closer to her. He then bent just a little to meet her demand & looped his hands around her tiny waist. Some people started to take notice as the kiss went, Tomo’s hands were now travelling on Maki’s upper back as she was caressing his nape. An elderly woman happened to see this torrid scene, made a sign of a cross & mumbled a few words to herself. Maki slowly pulled him away as she was catching her breath however he remained his hold enough for their right cheeks to touch then he broke a small grin before he whispered..
“You know what, I swear to god I could take you…” Again, before he could finish, this time Maki punched him in the gut enough to make him say “Ouch”
“Is that your way of saying goodbye? Geez, your arm may look little but I never realize you’re hiding a strong muscle in there!” Tomo was still touching his stomach.
“What do you mean hiding a muscle? Are you saying I am muscular?” Maki retorted. She cannot believe she is having this conversation at a time like this, like they were playing couch commando in her living room. At this very moment, she is a hundred percent sure she is going to miss his presence.
“I’ll miss you!” Both of them said it at the same time, then silence. Tomo could see that Maki was holding up her emotions. They were trying to communicate through their eyes. Then finally, Maki exhaled and said,
“I know and I trust you. I won’t hold it against you. It’s your future.”
“I told you, I will only be there for a couple of weeks then I’m heading back. I will not study medicine in US.” He said it calmly but his voice has an edge into it. He just couldn’t bring himself to think that his girlfriend would rather think of him not coming back. But Maki just put a smile on her almost teary face and said “Please come back to me.”
“And I will” He declared
“I’m glad to hear that” She said softly
Silence…
Tomo then turned to the entrance…
“Chotto, Matte”
Tomo turned around to face her, trying to hide a small grin.
Maki whispered “Tomohisa, I love you”
And that was all he needed to hear from her to leave peacefully.
Maki just stood there staring, not realizing that her tears were slowly forming. She wiped it away as soon it rolled down her cheeks. Meanwhile, Tomo was watching her from a corner, he was holding an old locket and then he slowly turned his back when his girlfriend had just exited the airport.
