Miyoko’s POV

“Please Auntie, don’t cry. Eunji will wake up sooner than we think. She won’t want you crying like this.” I comforted Eunji’s mother as she sat down beside Eunji’s bed sobbing.

I had called Eunji’s parents to them the news yesterday night. They were devastated to hear their precious daughter in the hospital. But they did not blame Wonbin for this; they said that it was not his fault. He didn’t want this to happen either.

Eunji’s parents, Minwhan, and I were all in the room today. The rest of the group was at school, they’d be in charge of telling the office the bad news. They’d be here later.

Eunji’s father was also trying to comfort his wife, but he couldn’t help but shed a few tears himself.

Looking at both of them made me want to cry again. I thought that all the salty liquid had already been used yesterday, but my were once again spraying out tears like a hose.

“It’s okay, she’ll be fine.” Minwhan comforted me.

I nodded at him.

Then suddenly, he pulled me into an embrace. One that felt warm, one that felt comforting, I couldn’t help but bury my face deeper into his chest, soaking his t shirt with my tears.

“Auntie, I think Eunji would want us to stay strong for her. She would rather want us smiling at her then frowning.” I told her once my tears hydrated. I noticed that Minwhan was still holding onto my shoulder.

She nodded as she blew her nose and wiped away her tears from her face.

“Please tell Wonbin that he shouldn’t be mad at himself. He didn’t mean to.” Eunji’s father told me.

I nodded at him. Wonbin was taking all the blame. This morning, when I saw him, he looked all worn out. He didn’t say much to people who tried to talk to him.

That jerk. He should’ve acknowledged her when he had the chance.

I looked at Eunji. Her lifeless body was lying on the bed. She looked very pale. I touched her hand. It was cold and hard. She looked like a totally different person. The redness of her cheeks, her cheerful smile, her eyes full of energy, they were all gone now.

We stayed until everyone else arrived. No one said a single word, we were all praying for Eunji.

“Auntie, Uncle, you two should go home and get some rest. I’ll stay behind to look after Eunji.” Wonbin insisted.

Eunji’s mother hesitatied for a second but when her husband told her that she should go home for some rest, she agreed and followed him out the room.

“If anything comes up, please contact us.” She said before disappearing.

“You guys should go too. It’s been a long day. I’ll stay here with her.” Wonbin told everyone else. His eyes never left Eunji.

“I’ll stay too.” Jaejin protested.

“Fine. Everyone else should go home and get some rest. Jaejin and I will stay here for the night.” Wonbin said.

The rest of us nodded our heads and left.

Wonbin’s POV

I watched as everyone except for Jaejin and I walked out of the room.

“You should just go home.” Jaejin insisted.

“I’ll stay.” I told him calmly.

We were silent for a while. Not sure what to say.

“Why did you see if she was alright? Why did you only care about Yeonhye?” Jaejin questioned me through gritted teeth.

“I… I only saw Yeonhye on the ground in pain. I never bothered to check on Eunji.” I said in shame as I tilted my head down.

“What if she never wakes up?” He questioned me.

“She’ll wake up. I’m sure of it. But… just if she never wakes up, I’ll be by her side forever.” I told him.

“Don’t make promises you can’t fulfill.” He replied.

“Look Jaejin. I know you like Eunji and you care a lot about her. But same goes for me. Seeing her like this pains my heart too.” I said as I looked at him in the eye.

“I like Eunji? Yes, of course I like her, but only as a sister, no more than that. You know what happened to my real sister. I treat Eunji just like my own sister, since I never got the chance to cherish my real one. I don’t want the same thing to happen to Eunji.” Jaejin said as he looked me in the eye.

‘He doesn’t like her?’ I thought as I looked through his eyes trying to see if he was telling the truth or not. Nothing in his eyes told me that he was lying.

“I know Eunji has positive feelings towards you. It’s just that she hasn’t admitted to those feelings yet.” Jaejin told me.

I stared at Eunji’s still body, I wanted the cheerful Eunji back. I wanted her to get back up and call me a jerk again. I want us to be fighting and calling each other names like a couple days ago. I want her to break another part of my guitar just so that I could see her again.

Without knowing, I felt my eyes start to tear up. I looked up, trying not to let them out, but it was no use. I stared at Eunji. The thought of her not waking up breaks my heart into pieces. The tears wouldn’t stop coming out. The last time I had cried was when I was in middle school, I got hit in the face by a soccer ball. Ever since then, I held onto my tears like a real man.

“Wonbin, you need to stay strong. For her.” He said to me as he looked at Eunji.

“I will. I’ll do anything for her. I’d wish I was in her place instead.” I honestly wished.

Yeonhye’s POV

I’m standing outside the door of where Eunji is sleeping.

‘Did this happen because of me?’ I thought as I watched my favorite seniors getting all miserable because of Eunji’s accident.

“If only I didn’t pretend being hurt.” I said to myself as I looked at the ground.

“Yeonhye?” I heard Jaejin ask as he turned towards the doorway.

“Oppa.” I said before I started to leave.

“What did you say Yeonhye?” Wonbin furiously asked me to repeat.

“I… I.” I stuttered.

“Why did you pretend?!” Wonbin half screamed at me.

“Please keep your voice down Sir. This is a hospital.” A nearby nurse shushed him.

When the nurse left, Wonbin asked me again. “Why did you pretend you were hurt?”

“I… only wanted someone to care for me. I didn’t want you to be taken away from me. I’ve seen you two hang out a lot lately, it feels like you and I am getting more and more distant.” I told him truthfully.

“Yeonhye. Even though you care for me you shouldn’t have ever done something like that. What happened to the old Yeonhye? The one that was friendly? You’ve changed into someone else. It seems like I don’t know you anymore.” Wonbin said to me.

My heart dropped down to the ground. I couldn’t believe the words he just said to me.

“But, you said that you would always take care of me. You promised.” I said, almost in tears.

“That was before you lied to me. Now, tell me exactly what happened.” He told me.

I sniffled back my tears and started to tell him how Eunji had gotten hurt. I told him everything that happened that day.

“You hurt her because she was hanging out with us?! That is the stupidest thing ever.” Jaejin went ballistic after hearing my story.

“I-I’m sorry.” I said with shame.

“Sorry won’t make Eunji wake up. Sorry won’t let us turn back time.” Jaejin rejected my apology.

“What can I do to make you guys not hate me?” I pleaded for their forgiveness.

“Just stay away from Eunji from now on.” Jaejin insisted without looking at me.

“I…I.” I started. I took a look at Wonbin to see if he would show any reaction to Jaejin’s request. But it seemed as if he didn’t care if I was there anymore. For now, the only one in his eyes was Eunji.

“Fine. If that is what you wish for. I will respect your decision. I’m really sorry for what happened to Eunji. If I knew this would happen, I wouldn’t have done anything to her in the first place.” I said my last words before leaving the hospital.

I sat outside the hospital on a nearby bench. I cried to myself.

“Wonbin doesn’t want me anymore.” I cried out loud.

Wonbin’s POV

-----NEXT DAY-----

“Wonbin. Please eat something.” My mother said to me as I walked downstairs in the morning.

“I’m not hungry mom.” I told her flatly.

“You didn’t eat much last night; you hardly eat anything these two days. I know you’re very worried about Eunji, but if you don’t eat, you won’t have the strength to go see her. Please have some food.” My mom pleaded me.

To be honest, I knew that I have not been the same since Eunji fell into a coma, but I had no appetite to eat when the person I like is sleeping continuously in the hospital.

I didn’t want my mother to get worried over me, so I sat down at the table and took a couple bites of my toast. I then finished my milk and got up.

“I’m going to school now mom. I’ll be at the hospital after.” I told her so she won’t get worried.

She weakly nodded as I got out of the house.

Narrators’ POV

Eunji has been in the coma for two weeks now. Every single day is the same routine. Everyone from the group would go to the hospital after school to see if she got any better, but all their hopes shattered when they saw Eunji in the same state as she was the day before.

Even though the tragic incident has happened, everyone tries their best to stay in the best shape they can. Every single one of them has dropped a pound or two, always worried about Eunji.

Everyone was anticipated for Eunji to wake up. Even Yeonhye and her two friends dropped by a couple times to see how she was doing.

A couple of those times, Wonbin and the rest were there, but they figured that Yeonhye really was sorry for what she did, so they decided to forgive her.

She was happy that her favorite seniors had finally forgiven her, but she decided to give up having the chance to be with Wonbin, since there was no way that he would like her back. His heart was all towards Eunji.

They were all gathered in the hospital one bright sunny day.

“When is she going to wake up?” Minhee sniffed.

“It’s alright. She’ll be with us soon.” Jonghoon brushed away Minhee’s tears that were on her face.

At this point, Minhee had developed feelings for Jonghoon, and Jonghoon had also developed feelings for Minhee. But neither of them had said anything about it.

“It’s already been two weeks. Why is there no change?” Miyoko said, worried.

“The doctors says it takes time for people who are in a coma to wake up. Even they don’t know when they’ll wake up.” Minwhan told her.

Minwhan had been with Miyoko since the very beginning, they like each other, but since Eunji was like this, neither of them thought about the opposite person much.

“Don’t worry. She’ll wake up soon. Look at all these get well cards.” Jaejin said as he pointed out all the cards the students in their class wrote.

Each and every student from their class had written a special card for Eunji, hoping that she would hurry and get well soon.

“Eunji, your mother and father are waiting for you to wake up so that they could give you the ticket to go to Canada for spring break. Hurry up and wake up if you want to see your friends there.” Wonbin told her with a smile.

“We still have one more good news for you Eunji.” Jaejin said as he sat down beside the bed.

“We’ve been selected as one of this year’s Community Musical Festival Contest contestants. This is the chance of a lifetime. There’s going to be a lot of reporters and producers out there, trying to look for people that has talent. We have a chance.” Hongki said to Eunji.

“We want you to wake up and watch us perform.” Wonbin said quietly.

“I think we should go now. Visiting hours is almost over.” Jaejin said as he got up.

Before Wonbin left the room, he took one last look at Eunji. He wished that she will be able to watch them perform.
