Jaejin’s POV
“Alright guys, we have to work hard this month. We have to make Eunji proud.” I told FT Island’s group members as we were inside the school’s music practice room.
I looked at Wonbin who was tuning his guitar in silence.
“Wonbin. Be strong. I’m sure Eunji would want us to practice hard.” Hongki said as he patted Wonbin on the shoulder.
“I’ll try.” Wonbin weakly said with a smile.
I know inside, Wonbin must be trying his best to stay strong. He just wants Eunji to be able to wake up and see us perform and cheer for us.
“You know what guys? Let’s play a song that is dedicated to Eunji.” Jonghoon suggested.
Everyone looked up at Jonghoon.
“That’s a great idea!” Minwhan cheered as he jumped up from his drum set.
“I’m sure Eunji will be happy that we are singing a song for her.” Hongki smiled.
“What’s with all the cheering?” Miyoko asked as she and Minhee walked into the room with drinks.
“We’re deciding to dedicate a song for Eunji.” I told them as they passed us each a bottle of water.
“That’s great guys! I’m sure Eunji will be proud of you all.” Minhee said.
“Let’s first get the tune and lyrics. Then we’ll think of a name for it. We don’t have much time. One month is going to pass by quicker then we think.” Jaejin said as he got out a music sheet and a pencil.
“Actually, guys, if it is okay, can I write the lyrics?” Wonbin stood up to join us.
We all gazed at Wonbin.
Was he finally going back to his old self?
“I want to write the lyrics.” He repeated.
“If you want to, sure.” Jonghoon said as he passed the paper and pencil to him.
Wonbin’s POV
I took the paper and pencil and walked off to a corner by myself.
I concentrated hard on the lyrics as I tried to find the tune with the piano.
“For my last goodbye I’m sending you my love
I cannot reach you with my still-lacking love”
I sang as I tried out a tune on the piano.
“How is the song going?” Jaejin asked me as he approached me.
“It’s going to take some time.” I told him as I pressed a high note on the piano.
“Good. We’re all anticipated for your song. I’m sure Eunji would be too.” He said with a pat on my shoulder before getting up to leave.
‘For Eunji, I will do my best.’ I thought as I went back to writing the lyrics.
Narrator’s POV
For that one week, Wonbin concentrated on writing the lyrics for the song. Other than going to school, going to visit Eunji, and being in the music room, Wonbin hasn’t had time to hang with the other members.
“I’VE FINISHED!!” I jumped up from the desk I was using in the music room.
Finally, the song was finished.
The other four members hurried to my side.
“Congratulations Wonbin.” Everyone congratulated him with pats on the back.
Wonbin couldn’t help but smile to himself. The song that was written just for Eunji had finally been completed.
Hongki grabbed the sheets from Wonbin’s hands and looked it over.
“Wonbin. This is amazing.” He said with amazed eyes.
Everyone huddled together to read the lyrics. They were all smiling by the time they finished.
“I think we can actually win with this song. It’s truly amazing.” Jonghoon announced.
Wonbin was getting praised by every single person in the room.
“Alright. Now we have to add on each instrument and practice. We have three weeks left until the big day.” Minwhan said.
“I’ll go photocopy this.” Minhee volunteered.
Moments later, she came back in with enough copies for everyone.
They all went to their appointed instruments and started to find out a right tune to the tune that Wonbin had played on the piano.
All of them were so concentrated on their mission that they didn’t notice when Minhee and Miyoko left the room for awhile.
Miyoko’s POV
“They’re so hard working. We shouldn’t be in there bothering them.” Minhee said.
“You’re right. Let’s talk about something else.” I replied to her.
“Well, actually I have been meaning to ask you for awhile.” Minhee started.
“Yeah?” I anticipated.
“Do you like Minwhan? I mean you two have been together often and I can see something when you two talk. The way you look at each other, it’s like you like him.” She told me.
My face went blank. It froze. My legs stopped where they were.
“Did I say something wrong?” Minhee asked me with concern.
“Um… No. Actually, you’re right. I do like him. A lot actually.” I replied embarrassingly.
I heard Minhee give me a giggle.
“Hey! But there must be something between you and Jonghoon! I’ve seen the way he talks to you. It’s different then when he talks with me and Eunji.” I teased her.
“Well… I… He… Yes. I do like him.” She admitted as her face blushed a deep red.
“I knew it.” I laughed at her.
“Well, let’s keep this a secret between us two okay?” Minhee asked.
“Of course.” I smiled at her.
“I wonder if he likes me back in the same way.” I wondered in thought.
“Of course! I can see the way he looks at you. It’s not normal. Trust me.” Minhee exclaimed.
“I hope you’re right. But I think Jonghoon also likes you. There’s no doubt about it.” I told her with a smirk.
“I hope so. I mean, he’s the first guy to treat me this nicely.” She day dreamed.
We talked until the guys came back out saying it’s time to go home and rest for the day.
They’d come back to school again the next day.
Wonbin’s POV
“Eunji. How are you today?” I asked her as moved and massaged her arms and legs.
I was in the hospital today by myself while the others were practicing for the contest.
“Guess what? I finished the song for you. I hope you like it. I put in a lot of energy and … love into it.” I told her.
I wished she could hear me. I really want her to wake up.
“Guess what?” I started.
“Today, we all went out to eat lunch. The entire time we were walking and eating, I saw Jonghoon talking to Minhee non-stop. Same goes for Minwhan and Miyoko.” I laughed.
“I think there’s something between those four. Don’t you think?” I asked her.
Of course, there was no response.
I sat back down on the chair and leaned forward towards Eunji.
I intertwined our fingers together and slowly caressed her hand.
“I know you may not be standing and talking to me right now. But I know you can hear me. I’ve heard it from doctors. They say people who are in a coma are able to listen to other people speak.” I told her.
“I just wanted to tell you. Seo Eunji. I love you.” I told her.
Then! I felt her finger twitch. I couldn’t believe it!
“Eunji! Can you hear me?!” I stood up to press the emergency help button that was laid right next to her head.
“Eunji! Wake up! I know you can hear me!” I excitedly said as the doctor and nurses came rushing in.
“Doctor! Her finger was twitching! Does that mean she is awake?!” I asked the doctor impatiently.
The doctor took a moment to look at Eunji. He flashed a light into her eyes.
“I’m sorry Mr. Oh, but it seems like Miss. Seo is not what you think.” He explained.
“The reason why she twitched could be because a muscle in her body reacted by itself. This often happens to our patience. But, it could be a sign that things are becoming more and more positive.” The doctor apologized before leaving the room.
I took a seat back down, disappointed.
“Eunji. Is this a sign that you can hear me? I know you will wake up soon.” I told her.
Later that night, when I got home, I called Eunji’s parents and the others about the news.
They were all happy that Eunji’s illness was having a positive turn.
After getting off the phone, I walked over to my guitar. The one that Eunji had broke.
“Eunji. This was the reason why we met. Even though your first impression wasn’t great, I still love you.” I said to the guitar.
