I blinked my eye to make sure this wasn’t a dream. To my surprise, it definitely wasn’t a dream. There she was, standing in the middle of the audience, staring right at me.
“Eunji.” I managed to whisper out without the others hearing me.
I stayed focus. My fingers and lips were moving perfectly with the song, but my eyes never lost sight of Eunji.
My heart definitely was going to explode. From happiness of course.
‘But how? Miyoko and Minhee said she was still in the hospital.’ I thought with confusion.
Soon, the song ended. We were finished. The clapping and screaming in the audience got even louder.
“Thank you FT Island for that amazing performance. I’m sure your friend must be proud to have this song dedicated to her.” The host said.
We bowed before leaving the stage so the next group could perform.
I literally raced down the stairs and into the audience, trying to look for Eunji.
“Wonbin! Where are you going?” I heard Jaejin scream after me.
“Eunji! Crowd!” I puffed out as I continued to run.
I sensed the rest of the guys running after me, demanding an explanation.
“Eunji.” I cried out, hoping someone would reply.
But the music was blocking up my voice. I stopped in my tracks to search around the area. Sweat was rolling down my face as I furiously searched for her.
“Hyung, what did you mean by Eunji?” Minwhan caught up with me with a confused expression.
“She’s awake. I saw her in the audience when we were performing.” I said without taking a glance at Minwhan.
“Really?! Are you sure?” He questioned.
“I’m positive.” I replied with confidence.
The five of us searched for a while more, but gave up soon. The awards would be presented soon. We didn’t want to be late.
“I swear I saw her.” I said as the five of us walked back to the backstage.
That’s when I stopped in my tracks. I saw three girls laughing and talking. Two of the girls were Minhee and Miyoko. The third one I recognized was none other than Eunji.
“Why’d you st—“ Hongki bumped into me.
The members stopped and followed my gaze.
“EUNJI!!!!” They all screamed and ran towards the girls, arms opened, and getting ready for a hug.
Eunji turned towards the crowd of raging male species, launching their bodies right at her.
She was bombarded.
“Oppas, I can’t breathe.” She huffed out as the guys let her go.
The blank me still stood in the same place. I was still stunned for her sudden appearance.
I saw Miyoko whisper something into Eunji’s ear, and then pointed towards me.
Eunji slowly walked towards me, eyes never leaving mine.
“Wonbin.” She said with a slow smile as she approached me.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to feel the reality. I hugged her like there was no tomorrow.
“Wonbin! You’re killing me! And plus, you smell!” She choked out.
I understood and let go of her.
“You got thinner.” She took a full length check of me.
“I—I’ve been busy with practise.” I lied.
The truth was, I missed her too much. I had no appetite to eat.
“Why don’t you treat yourself better?” She said, disappointed.
“I do! Just look at these watermelons!” He said as he flexed his arms.
“Whatever you say Wonbin.” She rolled her eyes.
I changed my smile to a serious expression.
“Don’t you hate me?” I asked her.
She took a moment to think.
“Actually, now that you say that. I do. I hate you for just leaving me to die. I hate you for pushing my head against the brick wall. I HATE YOU FOR NOT EATING!” She yelled the last part.
Then, she started to laugh.
“But... I don’t get it. You should be extremely mad at me right now.” I said as I scratched my head.
“I was when I first woke up. But when Miyoko and Minhee told me how you and Yeonhye go back since the beginning of high school, and you coming to see me every day, and then theres the song you wrote for me. The anger that was there disappeared.” She thoughtfully said.
“Exactly how long have you been awake for?” I questioned her.
“It’s been exactly a week actually.” She embarrassingly said.
“A WEEK?! How come I don’t know about this?!” I screamed out.
“I told Minhee and Miyoko to keep it a secret. I didn’t want my news to be disturbing you guys. I knew how much this contest meant to you.” She confessed.
“I would’ve worked even harder if I knew.” I pointed out.
“No you wouldn’t.” She teased me.
She was right. The only reason why I worked so hard was because I realized my feelings for her. If she never got into a coma, I wouldn’t have ever realized how important she was to me.
Then I remembered the gift. I still had it in my bag.
“Wait here.” I told her as I sped off to the changing room to grab my gift.
“I bought something for you.” I told Eunji when I came back moments later with a little box in my hand.
“What is it?” Eunji asked me with a smile.
“Open it.” I urged her with my own smile.
She slowly took off the lid. Her face brightened right away.
“Wonbin ... This is too much.” She said as she shoved the gift back to me.
I bought her a ring. It was made of real white silver. I had the words ‘I’m sorry’ engraved on the inside of it.
“No, Eunji. This gift is bought specially for you. It’s personally made for you. It’s my apology gift to you. I’m apologizing for the way I acted to you when we first met to accidently getting you into a coma.” I paused, deciding on whether I should continue.
“Is there something else you want to say to me?” She said, confused by my pause.
I guess I should get it over with.
“Actually. There’s one more reason why I got you that ring. Ever since you got into a coma, I’ve realized how much you mean to me. Soon, it became an emotion. That emotion is love. I’ve fallen for you Eunji. Will you accept that ring?” I asked her with low confidence.
Eunji’s face took in surprise.
‘Uh oh.’ I thought.
“Wonbin.” She looked me straight in the eye.
“It’s okay Eunji. I already understand.” I said in disappointment.
“Wait Wonbin.” She stopped.
I watched as she slid on the ring.
“I’ve realized how much I mean to you. I believe the reason why I was able to wake up was because of the love you put into that song. Though my feelings for you now are not as strong, I’m willing to take time to improve those feelings.” She smiled with glee.
My heart started to beat faster.
“Don’t worry. Every second you spend with me, you’ll fall in love with me even more.” I smirked.
“You wish!” She teased as she smacked me in the arm.
“Ow. That hurt.” I pouted at her.
“Let’s go back to the others.” She said as she grabbed my arm and led me back to the others.
As we got closer, I saw Miyoko and Minhee giggling and pointing at us.
“Looks like something good happen between you two.” Miyoko winked at Eunji.
Eunji’s POV
My face turned red from the comment. But I couldn’t help but smile.
“Hey! What about you and Minwhan?!” I teased her so we could change the subject.
Both their faces turned red.
“What do you mean me and Minwhan?” She embarrassingly said.
“I remember the things you told me.” I winked at her.
I heard Minhee laughing at her.
“Hey, you too Minhee.” I winked at her.
She shut her mouth instantly.
“The results should be announced soon.” Jonghoon changed the subject with a red face.
“Would all the performers please come on stage.” We heard the host announce.
The guys all walked up the stage one by one.
The host announced a couple things. The third place winner was a group called ‘Sugarless Sweets’. They were now going to announce second and first place.
“This year has been a great year. We’ve seen new faces and old. We’ve also had some great competition with us this year. This was the hardest decision we had to make. Now, it’s time to announce our second winner. And they are The Infinites!” People were screaming from all directions.
“Now, we have our winner. It was really hard to make this decision because our second winner and grand prize winner were extremely great. Our winner today is....” He paused to let the drum rolls be heard.
“FT ISLAND!!” He announced.
“AHHHH!” I jumped up in happiness as the two girls beside me did the same.
Every single person in the crowd cheered and whistled.
“They won!!” Minhee said as she clapped.
I nodded with power.
They accepted their trophy with proud. They made a little acceptance speech. Then they walked back down, faces beaming with proud.
“Congratulations guys!” We greeted them.
“Thanks!” They replied.
“You guys deserve this award. You all worked hard.” Miyoko said as she smiled brightly as Minwhan.
“I-It’s nothing really.” He replied with a cute little smile and bright red cheeks.
“Hey! We should all go out to celebrate tonight!” Jaejin suggested.
We all nodded in agreement.
“Sounds great! Let us go grab our stuff first.” Hongki said as she paced forward, towards the changing rooms.
Just then, a guy in a black suit stopped us.
“You five are FT Island. Am I right?” He asked.
We were all confused.
“Yes? What can we do for you?” Jonghoon asked.
“My boss would like to see you guys.” He said as he led us to a limo.
“Wait! Who’s your boss?” Wonbin said as he stopped.
“You’ll see.” The guy in the black suit said as he urged the guys and us girls into the limo.
“What is happening? I’m a bit scared.” Miyoko said as the car started.
