Eunji’s POV

*Ring Ring*

I groggily reached the little table that was beside my bed to grab my phone.

“Who is calling so early in the morning?” My voice cracked.

“Hello?” I sleepily said into my phone.

“Eunji? Did I wake you up?” I heard a familiar voice ask me softly.

That voice woke me up. I was glad to hear this voice. Ever since yesterday’s incident with Joseph, I was glad that I had Wonbin calling me, even though it was a bit too early.

“No, no. I’m awake.” I said as I sat straight up in my bed.

Before Wonbin could open his mouth to speak again, I cut in.

“Wait… Why are you calling me? Shouldn’t you be practicing?” I asked him with a confused face, even though he wasn’t able to see it.

“Well, that’s the reason why I’m calling you.” He started. He paused; I could hear people in the background giggling.

“Wonbin? Who’s in the background? I hear so many different voices.” I asked him.

“Everyone is here with me now. We have something to announce.” He said with a voice that sounded so happy.

“What is it?” I asked with the same enthusiasm in my voice.

“WE ARE DEBUTING EARLY!” I heard Wonbin scream with joy through the phone.

Then I heard the rest of the group in the background screaming with him. I had to pull the phone a little bit away from my ear so I wouldn’t go deaf.

“Debuting early?” I repeated.

That’s when my brain clicked. I jumped up from my bed and jumped around like an idiot. I was also smiling like an idiot.

After all of us calmed down, I spoke.

“Why are you debuting earlier? I thought you were going to debut at the end of this month.” I said.

“Mr. Lee said that our skill and ability was improving so much, he decided that it was time for us to debut.” Wonbin said as I heard shuffles on the other line fade away. I guess the others left the room.

“That’s really great Wonbin. I’m really proud of you all.” I said softly as I hugged my pillow, wishing I could be back in Korea.

“It’d be even better if you were here.” He said.

I wanted to be back too.

“I’m having so much fun here! Don’t worry, you can always tell me about how your debut went.” I said to him, saddened that I would miss their debut.

“You should come back then. I miss you a lot anyways. Just come back for the rest of the summer.” He said.

Then my doorbell rang.

“Hold on Wonbin, I need to get the door.” I said as I walked downstairs, phone in hand.

I opened the door to see the person which I didn’t really want to see. Joseph.

“Good morning Eunji.” He said with a smile as he pulled me into a hug.

I was surprised by his sudden action.

“Joseph. Why are you here so early?” I asked him as I rubbed my eyes.

“I came to take you out for some breakfast.” He said as he walked into my house and took off his shoes.

“I just woke up.” I said to him.

“It’s okay. You can take your time. I’ll just watch some television.” He said as he sat down on the couch and turned on the television.

I left him to be as I walked back up to my room and shut the door.

“Wonbin?” I said in to the speaker, wondering if he was still there.

“I’m here. Who is?” Wonbin said with a serious tone.

“Just a friend. A really good friend.” I told him.

“A good friend? A good male friend?” He asked with suspicion.

‘Was Wonbin getting jealous that I have a male friend over?’ I thought quietly to myself as I giggled.

“Yes, he is a male friend. A very good friend. We’ve known each other for a very long time.” I assured him.

“That’s good then.” He replied with a softer tone.

“Make sure you don’t do anything crazy.” He added on quickly.

I laughed at his warning.

“When will you be debuting?” I asked him.

“The end of this week. Come home please?” He pleaded.

I took a moment of thought. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to leave this place just yet. I know Joseph sure didn’t want me to leave yet.

“I really want you back. It’s not the same without you.” Wonbin continued.

“Unless. You have something better to do over there.” His serious tone came back.

A thud in my heart made awoke me.

“No, you’re right. I should go back. I’ve had enough time over here anyways.” I whispered into the phone.

I didn’t want him to think that there was another guy over here that wanted to court me.

The thought Wonbin mistaking me for cheating on him hurt me. There was no way I would ever do that to him.

“Eunji? I’ll be waiting for your arrival. I’ll be waiting at the airport for you.” Wonbin said before dismissing himself off of the phone to get to his practice.

I dropped the phone on my bed and headed to change. I didn’t forget that Joseph was still downstairs waiting for me.

“Finally, you’re finished.” He said as he shut the TV and got up from the couch.

“Sorry. I lost track of time when I was on the phone.” I told him as I shut the door.

“Who were you talking to anyways? So early in the morning.” He said.

“My boyfriend.” I managed to say to him.

I didn’t want to hurt him in any way. But I had to tell him the truth.

Joseph nodded and was silent for a couple minutes as we walked to a restaurant for breakfast.

As we were walking, I took the time to prepare myself. To tell Joseph that I would be leaving by the end of this week. The day right before Wonbin debuts.

We took our seats as we entered White Spot. I turned and faced my attention towards Joseph. Better to get this over with.

“Joseph. I have something to tell you.” I said to him as the waitress came with our food.

“Go ahead.” His tone not changing as he started to eat his pasta.

“I… I’m leaving.” I told him as I stared down at my own bowl of pasta.

I heard him place his fork down.

“You mean, you’re going back to Korea?” He asked me with a softer tone of voice.

I didn’t say anything. All I did was just nod, not daring to look into his ebony eyes.

“Why are you leaving so early? School doesn’t start this quick, even in Korea.” He murmured as he grabbed his fork again and continued eating.

“Wonbin is debuting at the end of this week. I want to be back for their debut.” I whispered.

“Is he really that important? So important that you have to leave your best friend that you haven’t seen for such a long time?” He questioned.

“Yes, he is.” I answered him with a flat tone in my voice. I’m not intending on hurting him. But right now, being with Wonbin is more important. I know I have no more feelings other then friendship towards Joseph.

We stayed silent for a moment, capturing the truth.

“I’m really sorry Joseph.” I said finally. I really meant it.

“No, it’s really fine. I’m the stupid one for not noticing earlier. I should have taken the chance earlier.” He said softly, voice that had a hint of depression in it.

I finished off my breakfast. I couldn’t stand being with Joseph any longer. I didn’t want to continue to hurt him more then I already had.

“I’m really sorry Joseph.” I repeated.

“You better take care of yourself. I’ll be back next summer to check on you.” I hugged him before letting go.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be able to take care of myself.” He said, not responding to my hug.

I left him. Just like that. It’d be another year until I came back.

As I walked back home, I was still sad that we didn’t have a proper good bye.

-----DAYS LATER-----

“Thank you so much for taking care of me Uncle Harvey and Aunt Sharron!” I said to them as I hugged them in the big airport. Today was the day that I would be flying back to Korea.

“You’re welcome. We had lots of fun having you around. We will miss you very much when you go back. Don’t forget to visit us when you have the time.” Aunt Sharron said as she gave me a kiss on the cheek.

“I’ll be back next year. And maybe I’ll even bring someone along with me.” I told her as I gave her one last hug.

“Take care Eunji!” I heard them all shout before leaving.

“Eunji!” I heard a familiar voice shout out to me.

I turned around to see Joseph.

“Joseph!” I smiled, glad that he came to see me off.

He took his time to catch his breath before looking at me.

“Eunji, here.” He said as he gave me a small box.

“What is it?” I asked him.

“Open it and see for yourself.” He said with a smile.

I opened the uniquely wrapped box. Inside the box was a necklace. One that I’ve never seen before. One that was beautiful.

The shininess shone like a bright sun. Even though the chain was plain, the pendant itself was remarkable enough. It was a small ring with a crescent inside of it. The crescent was made of crystal. Light reflected off of it ever so brightly.

“Joseph. This is beautiful.” I said with a smile.

“But I thought you hated me.” I added on.

He stayed silent.

“I was. But I realized that it’s already too late to change anything. I just want to give you blessing with you and Wonbin. I know that I’ll always be with you, just inside your heart. I’ll always be here waiting for you if you ever need me.” He said as he took the necklace and put it on me.

“I’ll always be your friend Joseph. That’s forever. I love you.” I said to him as I hugged him.

“You better take care of yourself. I’ll be back next summer. Maybe you’ll even be able to meet Wonbin. He can help introduce you to some great girls.” I said to him with a wink.

“That’s be… great?” He said with a laugh.

“I better get going now.” I said to him with an awkward wave towards the doorway to my flight.

“I’ll miss you. Take care.” He said as he pulled me in for another hug.

“Bye Joseph. I’ll miss you too.” I said as I walked away.

‘Korea, I’m coming back.’ I thought as the plane rose from the ground and into the sky.
