Wonbin’s POV
“Where is she?” Miyoko whined. The entire group was at the airport to welcome Eunji back.
“She’ll be out soon, maybe she’s just having a long time getting her luggage.” Minwhan tried to calm her down.
“I see her! Over there in the orange t-shirt!” Hongki shouted as he ran towards Eunji.
I followed lead. I was eager to her face again. It’s been too long since I’ve seen her deep eyes.
“Eunji!” I heard Minhee shout to get Eunji’s attention.
“Minhee! Guys!” Eunji replied as she picked up her pace, along with her luggage to get to us.
One by one, everyone except me hugged Eunji, welcoming her back to Korea, showing how much we missed her.
“Wonbin.” She said as her eyes met mine. I walked forward, hugging her. All the feelings came back. Being away from her for too long was not good for my mental health.
“I’ve missed you a lot Eunji.” I whispered into her ear.
“Me too. I’ve missed you too.” She replied.
I felt something nudging against my chest. I pulled away from her to see what it was. It was a necklace that I’ve never seen before.
“You bought a new necklace?” I asked her.
“Oh this?” She grabbed the necklace.
“My friend gave it to me before I left.” She said with a smile as she drifted off into her own thoughts.
“Does it have anything to do with the guy that was in your house that morning?” My voice tightened.
“Does that matter? I’m back now. Let’s just have a fun day. I’ll explain everything to you later on.” She said as she let go of with a hint of agony in her voice.
“How’ve you been?” I heard Jaejin ask Eunji.
“I had the best time in Canada Oppa! If you ever go to Canada, promise to bring me along! I’ll show you all the great places to go. I can be your tour guide.” She replied with a smile.
“That’d be great. But for now, I should be your tour guide. You’re probably very hungry. Let’s go grab you some lunch.” He said as he took Eunji’s luggage and started to head out to our van.
I took a seat beside the driver’s seat. Everyone else was talking to Eunji, asking how her summer break went.
She told them about a lot of things, but it seemed like she didn’t tell them about the guy at her house that morning. There must be something wrote here.
‘Did something happen when she went back to Canada?’ I thought as I stared out the window
“I’m pretty sure you must be missing Korean food.” Jonghyun said as he parked in the parking lot of a Korean restaurant.
“I sure have! I got sick of eating instant noodles every night. It’s about time to eat something different.” Eunji said as we got out of the car.
As we walked in, Minhee and Miyoko linked their arms with Eunji. I felt a pang of sadness. I should be the one that was holding Eunji’s hand.
“Hyung, are you okay?” Minwhan asked me.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s go inside.” I said as I walked into the restaurant and into my seat, which was directly across from Eunji.
As we waited for our food to arrive, I snuck a peek at Eunji. She was talking to Miyoko, but her eyes were staring into mine. A second later, she pulled her eyes away for mine and back to Miyoko.
‘Did I do something wrong?’ I asked myself.
As we ate, our entire was all laughing and talking. I was glad we got a VIP room so we wouldn’t distract the other customers.
After eating lunch, we decided that Eunji was probably having jet lag and that she should go home and get some rest. Her parents would be happy to see her anyways.
“Eunji!” Her mother greeted her with a hug when she opened the door to see Eunji and I standing outside.
“Mom! I missed you!” She replied.
“Dad!” Eunji greeted her father who was sitting on the couch.
“Welcome home dear.” He greeted her with a smile.
“I’ll put your things upstairs in your bedroom.” I told Eunji as I headed to the stairs so she could talk with her mom and ad.
I put her luggage on the ground in the middle of her room. I sat down on her bed as I waited for her to come upstairs.
As I waited for her to come back upstairs, I used her lap top which was inside her carry bag that she took with her to Canada.
I accidently pressed one of the keys on the lap top and the computer came to life.
“I guess she didn’t shut her lap top off.” I said to myself as the black screen turned to light.
Then all of a sudden, a beep came from the computer. She received an email. From a person named Joseph.
Eunji’s POV
I walked upstairs to my room after talking with my parents. I opened the door to see Wonbin using my lap top.
I looked at his face, he seemed surprised and mad at the same time.
“What’s wrong with your face?” I said with laugh. To be honest, he did look a bit funny to me.
When he didn’t answer me, I walked over to see what he was looking at. I was able to see that he was reading an email that was sent to me from Joseph.
“Who’s he?” His serious tone coming in place.
“Joseph. He’s the guy that was at my house that morning.” I told him truthfully.
“You said he was just a friend.” He said as he got up from my bed.
“He is only a friend. A really good friend. What’s wrong with you?” I said as I backed away from him.
“IF he’s only a friend, why is he sending you an email that has this kind of stuff written?” He said, voice turning angry.
I took a look at the email. I read it out loud:
Hey there Eunji!
I hope you got back to Korea safely. I’ve already started to miss you. I’ll still be waiting for you whenever you need me. So don’t be too afraid to ask for help. Come back and visit really soon!
“He says he already misses you.” Wonbin stated.
“Yes... He did. Does that matter? Friends can say those kind of things to each other. Can’t they?” I asked him.
“He’s a guy. He said he’ll be waiting for you. He gave you that necklace.” His body stiffened.
“That doesn’t matter! He knows that I have you! You know that I love you! Why are you getting mad at me for something this stupid?” I asked him as I stood up from the bed and held his hand.
I wasn’t on planning for this type of thing to happen on the first day that I got back in Korea. I was really tired. I wasn’t able to sleep on the plane at all. My eyes were starting to get droopy on me.
“If you told him that you’re in love with me why is he still acting like this towards you?!” He shouted, face turning red. He whipped his hand out of mine.
“He cares about me Wonbin! He knows when I’m telling the truth. He trusts me. He knows he won’t be able to make me fall in love with him because he knows I’m in love with someone else. He’s like an older brother to me!” I shouted back, eyes getting teary.
“Eunji honey? Wonbin? What are you two doing in there?” My worried mom knocked on the door.
I went over to open it and dipped my head out.
“Nothing mom, Wonbin and I are just talking. Don’t worry about it.” I told her as I shut the door and heard her go back down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“Older brother? If you really think of him only as a brother, why were you blushing and smiling like an idiot when I asked you about the necklace? That means that he means a lot to you, more than me.” He replied back. Wonbin headed out towards the door.
“Wait.” I said as I pulled his hand, trying to get him back to where I was.
“How could you think like that? You know the person that I care most about is you! Joseph is a really good friend that I have known for a very long time. Please stop acting like this Wonbin. Stop being jealous. You don’t even know what the truth is and yet you’re already criticizing me. You haven’t noticed the way I am towards you for the last year?” I asked his back, tears now flowing from my eyes.
No answer came from him. He was silent for awhile.
“You should get some rest. You’re probably tired.” His voice soften. He wriggled out of my grip and headed out of my door and then my house.
I watched him walk away from my house, his body slowly fading away from my sight.
“What am I to you?” I asked to myself as I took a tissue and wiped my tears away from my eyes that were getting swollen.
“Why can’t you trust me?” I asked as I took another one and blew my nose into.
“Why can’t you see that I love you?” I asked once more before placing my head on my pillow and drifted off to sleep, hoping I could have a happy dream.
-----NEXT MORNING-----
“Eunji, wake up dear. Myoko is here.” My mom said as she shook me through my covers.
“Ehnn.” I muffled out.
I wasn’t ready to come out yet. I was too tired. Plus, yesterday’s fight with Wonbin didn’t help.
“Eunji, wake up! Tomorrow the guy’s debut! They’ll be performing at the stadium!” I heard Miyoko’s voice in my room, also shaking me.
“I’m tired.” I said as I tried to curl up into a ball.
“I don’t care. You can sleep later. The guy’s need to buy clothes!” She said as she pulled the covers off of me. I could feel the coolness already.
“Why can’t they just buy it themselves? Why do I have to go along too?” I whined as I pulled the covers back over my head.
“I want you to come along!” She said as she sat down on my floor.
I took a peek at her. Her lips were in a pout and her hands were together as if trying to plead me to go.
“Fine fine. Just let me get ready.” I gave up and got out of bed and into the washroom.
“Yay!” I heard her yell out as I splashed water on my face.
“Okay, let’s go.” I said as I came out of the bathroom moments later.
“Do you want to eat first?” She asked me.
“No, let’s get it over with so I can get back to sleep.” I said as I grabbed my bag and went downstairs.
“I’ll be back later mom.” I said to my mother as Miyoko bowed to my parents.
We took the bus to the mall, where we were meeting up with the others.
“So, why exactly am I here again?” I asked when the bus had to wait for a train to pass by.
“You’re going to help me pick a nice outfit to wear for tomorrow. After their performance, there’s going to be an after party. Minhee, I, and you got invited. You should get yourself something to wear too. After all, it’s a pretty big day.” She said as the train finally disappeared and the bus continued.
“No thanks. I don’t plan on going.” I told her.
“What?! Why?!” She said a bit too loudly. Everyone on the bus stared at us.
I hushed her down.
“I’m too tired. I’ll go for their performance. But I’m afraid I’ll be too tired for the after party.” I lied.
The reason was that I didn’t want to see Wonbin. I didn’t want him to ignore me. I’d rather ignore him then see his face. He probably still thinks that I’m in love with someone else.
Suddenly, I heard my cell phone ringing. I took a look at the caller ID. It was unknown.
“Hello?” I said into the speaker.
“Eunji! It’s me! Joseph!” I heard him say.
“Oh, hey Joseph.” I tried my best to sound happy.
“Why are you calling me?” I asked him, confused. Then I remember that I forgot to reply to his email.
“I’m at the airport in Korea!” He said, sounding very happy.
“What? Why?” I said with confusion.
“I’m going to Korea!” He yelled out.
I stopped in my tracks. Miyoko and I had already gotten off the bus and was now walking into the mall.
“What do you mean you’re coming to Korea?!” I astonishingly asked.
“I bought tickets already! You’ll be able to see me tomorrow! I have to go now! I’m going to get on the plane. See you in fourteen hours!” He said before hanging up on me.
‘Why is he coming to Korea?’ I thought to myself.
