Eunji’s POV
*Ring ring*
I heard my cell phone ringing on the bed side table beside me.
“Hello?” I half asleep said into the phone.
I didn’t like being woken up so early in the morning. Especially on days when I don’t have school.
“Eunji! It’s Joseph! I’m in Canada!” I heard my best friend from Canada beam into the phone.
That woke me up. I shot straight up from my bed and onto the ground, standing.
“Joseph?” I asked into the speaker to make sure it really was him.
“Yeah?” He plainly replied.
“Oh my god! It really is you!” I almost screamed.
“Yes it is Eunji. And I’m here. I’m almost at your house. I’m in a taxi right now.” He said to me.
“What?! When did you arrive?” I asked him.
“Not long, maybe an hour or two ago. I didn’t want to wake you up too early. I know you’re probably tired.” He said.
“How long will you be staying in Korea for?” I asked him.
“Not long, probably a week or two only. I came here to clear something up.” He said.
“Clear what up?” I asked, confused.
“Never mind. We’ll talk more when I get to your house. I’ll be there soon.” He said before hanging up.
I quickly changed into something and got downstairs to make some breakfast for both me and Joseph.
As I was just finishing up the breakfast, someone rang on the door bell. I was guessing that Joseph has arrived. But it seemed like it was so quick that he got here.
It wasn’t Joseph. It was a mail-man.
“Hello, is Miss. Seo here?” He asked.
“I’m Miss. Seo.” I said, confused.
“You have a package. Would you please sign here?” He asked me as he handed me a clip board and a pen.
I signed where I was supposed to sign and took the big package from him.
“Who could this be from?” I asked to myself after I shut the door.
I ripped off the tape and opened the top of the box.
Inside was a dress. A really pretty dress. One that I found was simple but unique at the same time. There was really thin straps. The dress was entirely black, with a little white rose on the right waist.
There were other things inside the box too. I dug in to find a little cute black purse that also had the design of a white rose sewed on the bottom right side. I also found a necklace and earring that was the exact same design as the dress and the purse.
I looked at the box to see who sent it to me. But there was no return address.
“Weird.” I said as I placed the dress back in.
But before I put everything back in, I found a little letter inside the box.
“Eunji, I know you don’t have anything to wear for tonight’s party, which is why I bought you this outfit. I hope you’ll wear it. I hope to see you at the performance later on in the day, and I hope that you’ll make it for the party.” I read out loud to myself. At the bottom of the note was Jaejin’s name.
‘Right, the party. I almost forgot about that.” I thought to myself.
I still don’t know if I should go or not. Who needs me there to cheer for them when they already have... Rijin?
Suddenly, someone rang on my doorbell again. This time has got to be Joseph.
“Miyoko?” I was surprised to see the person at my door was not Joseph, but Miyoko.
“Good morning Eunji.” She smiled at me.
I nodded at her.
“Are you ready?” She asked me.
“Actually, I’m meeting up with someone later on.” I told her.
“Joseph? Right?” She asked me.
I nodded.
“I have a feeling that he won’t be able to meet up with you.” She smirked.
Just then, my cell phone started to ring.
As I walked over to grab my cell phone, I continued staring at Miyoko who was standing in my living room with a smile on her face.
“Eunji, I don’t think I can meet up with you.” Was the first thing Joseph said to me when I answered the phone.
“What? Why?” I asked him, still staring at Miyoko.
“I... I have to go somewhere. I promise that I’ll see you later.” He said before hanging up on me once again.
“What was all that about?” I asked the cell phone.
“So, is your friend still meeting up with you?” Miyoko asked me with a smile.
“Nuh uh. He just bailed on me. He said he had somewhere to go. Wait, how’d you know?” I asked her.
“It was just a guess. That’s all.” She said.
“Well, I made breakfast for two peopled Do you want to have some?” I offered her.
“Sure.” She accepted as she sat down and started to eat her breakfast.
“Now that your friend bailed out on you, that means you can go to the performance!” She said in between her chewing.
“Fine. I am.” I gave in.
“Great, after we finish eating, we’ll get ready. Remember, bring the clothes that you will be wearing for tonight’s party.” She said to me.
Then she spotted the big box that Jaejin mailed to me.
“What’s this?” She asked.
“You’ll see tonight. Jaejin bought it for me to wear to tonight’s party. It’s so pretty.” I said as I grabbed the box so that she couldn’t see the dress until tonight.
“Fine. That means you’ll have to wait to see mine tonight.” She stuck out her tongue at me.
“Oh, great.” I said as I rolled my eyes.
“Come on, go grab your stuff and get to the stadium. They’ll be starting soon.” She said as she grabbed her bag and got up from the chair.
“Miyoko, it’s only 10 in the morning, it doesn’t start until 12.” I pointed out.
“You’re right. I just want to be there early to see them... get ready. That’s all.” She told me before ushering me to get my bag and the big box from Jaejin.
I grabbed all the things I needed before locking the house and getting on the bus with Miyoko to the stadium.
On the ride there, I was wondering where Joseph had gone to.
“What are you thinking about? Worried that Wonbin won’t talk to you?” She asked out of the blue.
That was the thing that wasn’t on my mind.
“Uh... Yeah.” I lied.
“Don’t worry. After today, everything is going to be fine. Trust me.” She said as she gave my hand a little squeeze.
I stared out the window, confused. How does she know if everything’s going to be alright after today?
Just thinking back when Wonbin was flirting with that girl makes me jealous.
“Well, looks like we’re here.” Miyoko said as she we got off the bus and started walking towards the stadium, which was already filled with workers.
“Minhee!” Miyoko yelled out.
I could see Minhee and the rest of the guys crowded in one little circle. I could also see Rijin. She was standing right beside Wonbin, acting like she was his girlfriend.
“Good morning Eunji.” Jaejin greeted me with a smile.
“Good morning Oppa. Are you excited?” I asked him as I smiled back weakly.
“Actually, I’m a bit nervous, but since you’re here with me, I’m alright.” He said with a big smile.
I could only smile back.
I side glanced at Wonbin. He was staring directly at me, expression hard to tell. He wasn’t paying attention to what Rijin was saying to him.
I stared right back at him, making the world around me disappear.
‘Why are you acting like this?’ I thought to myself, hoping he would be able to hear it.
As if he actually could hear me, he broke his glance and went back to talking with Rijin.
‘Arg!’ I thought as I balled my fist and stiffened.
“Are you okay Eunji?” I heard Hongki ask me.
“I’m fine. Just a bit tired.” I told him with a reassuring smile.
“Why is she here?” I asked Hongki as I pointed at Rijin.
“Oh, she’s here to cheer us on. Well, mostly Wonbin.” He told me.
‘Shouldn’t I be the one cheering Wonbin on? Aren’t I the one that is his girlfriend?’ I questioned myself.
I stared down at my shoes, I blocked out all sounds and tried calming myself down.
“Eunji!” I suddenly heard a familiar voice calling me.
I turned my head towards the direction of the voice to see that it was Joseph.
“Joseph?! Why are you here?!” I asked me as I hugged him tightly.
“Well, this was the place that I was going to. Sorry I couldn’t meet up with you this morning. I had something important to do.” He said as he turned his gaze towards Wonbin and gave him a wink.
I gave him a confused look.
“I’ll explain later. Right now, I have to get some food, my stomach is growling.” Joseph said as he went off with the rest of my friends, leaving me alone with Wonbin.
“Hey.” Wonbin said with a little smile.
‘What gives you the right to talk to me after you just finished flirting with some girl?’ I thought to myself.
“Hi.” I replied back, plainly.
“How’ve you been?” He asked me.
“Great.” I lied.
It’s been less than three days since our fight, but I still miss him.
There was an awkward silence between us for a couple minutes.
“I...” We both said at the exact same time.
“You go first.” He said to me.
“No, you go first.” I told him.
I wanted to apologize to him, I wanted to feel his arms wrap around me again. I’ve had enough of this stupid fight.
“I... I just wanted to say I’m sorry.” He started off.
That caught me off guard. I never expected that he would be the first one to say sorry.
“Huh?” I blurted out.
“I’m sorry for making you mad, sorry for fighting with you, sorry for not believing you about Joseph, sorry for not talking to you, and sorry for not being by your side. I even asked Joseph to come here and explain everything for me. He was the one that told me that you two are only friends. ” He said with pleading eyes.
I stared at him with my eyes open.
“Are you mad at me? It’s okay if you are. You should be mad at me for treating you like this.” He said as he lowered his head down.
A little smile crept up on my face. I was more than happy to know that he was no longer mad with me. But there was still one more thing I had to deal with.
“Then who’s Rijin?” I asked him with a serious tone.
“Rijin? What about her?” He asked as he looked me in the eye.
“Don’t you like her? Isn’t that why you’ve been with her for the last two days?” I asked him, pleading for an answer that I don’t expect.
“Eunji, Rijin is my sister. She studies in America, she’s back for vacation. The reason why I’m always with her is because I haven’t seen her in such a long time, I miss her, I just want to spend some time with her before she leaves tomorrow.” He told me.
So, I had the wrong thought all along?
I feel so stupid; I can’t believe that I didn’t trust Wonbin.
“You’re stupid.” I told him.
He looked at me with a funny expression.
“For not talking to me sooner.” I said as I hugged him tightly.
“I’m sorry. At least you’re here today. I can’t wait to see you tonight with that dress. I get it looks great on you.” He whispered into my ear as we were still hugging each other.
I pulled away from the hug, surprised at what he just said.
“Wait, how’d you know I got a dress for tonight? Did Jaejin tell you?” I asked him.
He chuckled.
“I’m the one that got you the dress. I was afraid that you wouldn’t wear it because you were still mad at me. That’s why I wrote the note as Jaejin.” He told me with a smile.
“Well, it looks really nice if I have to say. You have good taste in clothing.” I told him with a smile.
“I have even better taste in girls. After-all, you are the one that I’m choosing out of all the girls at our school. Don’t you feel lucky?” He teased me.
“No, I don’t feel lucky at all. You’re the one that should be feeling lucky.” I joked back.
“I do feel lucky. It’s because of you that I am able to become like this. You’re the one that helped me become a famous celebrity. I won’t let you go. I guess, your first impression on me wasn’t the best, but if it weren’t for that first meeting, we wouldn’t have ended up like this.” He said with a gorgeous smile.
“Good, then you better take care of me.” I said as I flicked his nose.
“I will. Forever.” He promised.
“Sorry to break the moment guys, but we have to get ready now. We’ll be starting soon.” Hongki came and distracted us.
“I’ll see you in a bit. I reserved a front row seat for you. It should have your name somewhere on a piece of paper on your chair. Make sure you wish me good luck.” He said.
“Good luck Oppa.” I said as I stretched up and gave him a little peck on the cheek.
He smiled and then left with Hongki.
I went to the front of the row to find Miyoko and Minhee already sitting down.
“So, how’d things go?” Miyoko wanted the details.
“We’re good now.” I smiled as I blushed.
“See, I told you things were going to get better.” She winked at me.
I laughed and covered my face from embarrassment.
“Where’s Joseph?” I asked them. He disappeared.
“He had to go do some errands. We’ll see him tonight.” Minhee told me.
“Oh, speaking of tonight, I need you guys to help me do my hair and make-up. I’m a idiot when it comes to these kind of things.” I asked for help.
“No problem. We’ll make you the prettiest girl in the entire room.” Miyoko winked at me.
“Thank you everybody for waiting. Our show is finally beginning. We are grateful to introduce everybody to our newest Korean group, FT ISLAND!” The host announced.
The crowd went wild. Though they haven’t debuted yet, posters and magazine covers had photos of FT Island on it. They were already big before even debuting.
The five of them looked amazing up on the stage. That was where they belonged, up on the stage, in the spot light.
The three of us sat down and watched their first song, which was also the song that they wrote for me. Hearing that song once more made me smiling on the inside.
The performance was great. But tonight will be so much better.
