"Ohayo, Tomo-kun!" I shouted happily.
He startled as he looked at me. "Stop shouting at me like that… You will hurt my ear drums…" he poked his ear with his finger.
I laughed and smiled. "Gomen…"
"Maki… What are you doing here? Do you want something?" asked Tomo.
"Yeah… What are you doing here anyway? You got business with us?" asked Toma, Tomo's best friend, the one who had always stick with Tomo-kun no matter where he went.
I stuck out my tongue and looked away. His real name was Ikuta Toma. He was in the same class as Tomo-kun and me. He had always irritated me with his bubbly attitude. But he was good guy, only sometimes he was mean with straight- forward remarks. Well, I didn’t care about him anyway. The one I wanted to meet was Tomo-kun. He loved to spend his time on the roof during lunch time. And Toma would always follow him and joined him on the roof together with him. They had been together since they were in the middle school.
"Nothing…. Just want to see the view from the top here…." I lied.
"Hmm…. Is that so? Are you sure? Hmm…. I think it's not the first time you're saying such things. And also it's not the first time you had been here to view from the top…" Toma smiled. He then looked at me in a sarcastic way.
I pouted my lips and made an irritated sound. "Nothing likes that…. I'm just saying the truth."
"Are you sure?"
"Urusai!!!" I shouted irritatingly.
He laughed out loud. "Tomo… I told you, Maki will get startled when I ask her something like that… She is obviously stammering."
I hated when Toma did that to me in front of Tomo-kun. It was totally embarrassing. He just loved to make fun at me. Since the first time I met him, he had always did that to me.

"Why are you always doing this to me?" I asked.
"Nothing…. It just it's so fun to make fun of you. You're looking cute when you're fool by me." He laughed.
"Urusai!!" I shouted.
"Maki… And there's one more thing. You want to know why??"
I looked at him curiously. "Why?"
"Because you're stupid, that's why!" he laughed again while patted my head.
"Stu-Stupid?! I'm not stupid!!" I flinched his hand away and stared at him irritatingly.
"Just…. Kidding." And again, he laughed away and went to the class.

I sighed. I knew I'm such a clumsy girl but I'm not that stupid. He had always made me looked stupid, especially in front of Tomo-kun. But Tomo-kun had never or even once laughed at me. He had never teased or made fun of me. He had just looked at me and smiled and said something good to me like…. 'Don’t mind him too much…', 'don’t worry too much. He loves making fun of people.', 'you can come here whenever you like so…. Don’t mind Toma, okay?'
I loved when he cared for me like that. He smiled at me and patted my head numerous times as if I was just a little kid. He was so nice towards me. But… he had never smiled at me with his true self. The way he smiled, I felt it was just not right it was like he was holding back those smile. That slightly and bitter smile had always put me into a curiosity thought. His eyes never showed his true self. His eyes had always to be appeared in such sad expressions. I had always wondered.
"Ne, Maki… Thanks for the cd you've lent me… I love it!" said Toma happily.
Maki nodded. "Hait… See, I told you!"
"Well, I know that but…." he continued talking to me but I turned to Tomo-kun. I didn’t know why but I had never got to hear what he said. It looked as if his words were flying over my ears. I felt that everything around me was gone all quiet when I looked at Tomo-kun and how cool he was. He looked elegant when he stood by the fence, where he put his arm on it and rested his chin on his hand. And how he would gaze away and let the winds blew against his body. I smiled alone. He was so cool. I loved when he did that, and that was the actual reason I came up here. To take a glance at him… And I felt happy when I did that….
At our class, he would also do the same thing. He was sitting by the window. And I, who was sitting next two rows beside him, would always stare quietly at him. And again, I smiled. I just loved when he did that…. But I had always wondered what he thought of and what he was gazing about. And then, all of my wonderings were answered when I met her…. The one who Tomo-kun had always looked to and turned to…. Nagasawa Masami…. Tomo-kun's one and only first love…. I met her when our first went out together. That time, at the National Theme Park….
"Look!!! Kirei!!!!" I stood up and pointed outside.
"Woohhhh…." Tomo-kun groaned as he held on tight to the seat and took his deep breathe.
"Eh? What's wrong, Tomo-kun?" I asked him.
He slightly smiled and shook his head. I smiled and again I stood up and pointed out. And again, he did the same thing.
"What's wrong, Tomo-kun?" I asked him again. He looked scared and was sweating. "Tomo-kun…. Don’t tell me that…. Are you scared of heights?"
He smiled again. "Ahh… Actually, I'm a little afraid of heights…"
"But, you're the one who suggested us riding on this wheel…" I looked at him curiously.
"Un… It was because you made a 'I really want to ride this' kind of expression." He stammered.
Slowly, I smiled. "Thank you…." And then, he nodded and slightly smiled. I laughed a little and looked away. I stood up again and pointed out, and again he groaned.
"Gomen…. I forgot…." I bit my lips. He nodded and looked away. And suddenly, his eyes locked into something.
"Eh?"
"What's wrong?" I asked him as I felt guilty.
"It's them…."
"Eh? Dare?" I asked again.
"Same day… Same place…." He said while looked away. But I looked at him curiously. After a while, we went to meet Tomo-kun's old friend. He introduced me with them.
"Maki… This is Nagasawa Masami and this is Oguri Shun, her boyfriend and also one of my best friends."
I smiled and reached out my hand. "Hi! I'm Maki. Horikita Maki…. Nice to meet you!"
Masami and Shun laughed. They were the nicest and elegantly beautiful couple I had ever met. Masami shook her hand with me. "Hi, Maki-san…." She smiled at me. She was so beautiful and polite girl.
"Jaa… We'll go and buy drinks." Shun-san suggested.
"Hait… Thank you…" said Masami. So, Tomo-kun and Shun-san went to buy drinks and leaving us two at our seats.
"Same day… Same place…" she suddenly spoke.
I smiled and turned to her. "We really get along well, don't we?" I asked.
"Who and who?" she asked.
"Me and Masami-san…." I grinned happily at her.
She laughed and nodded. "Yeah…"
"Masami-san…. How did you and Shun-san met?" I asked.
"Me and Shun-chan?" she laughed a little. "Both of us were introduced by Tomo…."
My eyes widened and shocked. "Eh? Both of you were introduced by Tomo-kun?"
She nodded. "At that time, Shun-chan was such a shy guy. So, he asked Tomo for help. I heard this after we're started going out."
"Really?" I smiled. "But you really have a good taste…"
"Eh? Why is that?"
"I mean, Shun-san is a handsome guy and I think he have a nice personality too…" I looked at her.
"But I think Maki-san also has a good taste too…." She said.
"Me? I'm way out of it! Never, never has been a good taste…."
She laughed again. "Why?"
"It was because I'm a clumsy and always full of imagination. I always like guys with the good-looking but have nothing inside…." I said with a sad expression.
"I don’t think so… This time I think you certainly have chosen the right one…" She said and turned to me. She held my hand and smiled. "Trust me…."
And from that moment I did trust her. But…. I didn’t know I shouldn’t trust her that much when it came to Tomo-kun. I didn’t know whether I should trust her or not. But several of times, she broke that trust. And from that moment times, I began to hate her bit by bit…. I knew it was wrong but I just couldn’t help it.
After all, she was the reason that Tomo-kun shut his heart to me and she was the reason that he gazed away for remembering the past….
