Then, the doorknob started turning again.
Dang! This senior isn’t as good as I thought, is she?
[End of Recap]
The door was pulled open, revealing me, squatting in an awkward position, sitting on buckets and holding the mops.
“Come out,”
Senior senior Yuri said in a somewhat stern voice with a serious expression pasted on her face. I put my leg out and came out of the closet. Happy that I am not compressed any longer but frowned at the thought that I would probably be punished by this senior whom I thought was nice but soon, I’ll know she is evil.
“She’s irritating, isn’t she??
“Huh?”
I turn to Senior senior Yuri, my expression changed from a frown to a ???.
“So Young, she orders people around,”
Senior senior Yuri said, turning to look at me. I nodded, not knowing if it was the right thing to do.
“Right…”
I was right?!
“If you need any help with So Young, look for me,”
Senior senior Yuri said and left without even leaving time for me to make a reply.
The next day…
“All trainee nurses under Senior So Young were to meet her 15 minutes before their shift.”
Gillian, my roommate, read out from the message she had just received from her handphone. She looked up at the clock and then ran to the bathroom and knocked on the door frantically.
“Charlene ah, get out of the bathroom! We’re due in 10 minutes!”
I skipped washing my face with the facial foam and started putting on my clothes.
“Yah! I need time!”
“Well, time is not on your side,”
I was half-done. All I was missing was my shirt.
“I’m breaking in!”
“Huh? What? No!”
I grabbed my towel and covered myself.
“Ahhhhhhhh!”
“Charlene, get out and change. I just woke up, I should be the one screaming,”
Gillian pushed me out the door. What? I was the conservative type. Not even my mother saw me in such little clothing. Well, that would be the case if I had one…
I quickly got changed and got ready. After I was done, I helped Gillian pack her things too.
Gillian was the same age as me. She and I studied in the same school since Grade 1, we were in the same class even. Maybe that was why people often mistake us for twins. We indeed look alike. She only has a mother to depend on and she was often at other countries doing business. And because of the fact that I was an orphan, Gillian and I live under the same roof. We were considered best friends so we even took the same course as each other – nursing.
Gillian popped out of the bathroom 5 minutes later. We now only had 2 minutes to run to the venue. We grabbed out bags and ran out.
A minute left and we’ve already covered half of the distance. I was too busy looking at my watch and didn’t pay attention that I tripped over my own leg.
“Ahh!”
I fell flat on the ground. Gillian stopped and turned to me. I looked up at her and raised my right hand.
“Go, go on without me,”
“Okay!”
I heard Gillian’s voice echoing as she ran away. She really left?!
My face fell back down on the ground along with my right hand. Helpess, hopeless and doomed.
I looked up again when I heard footsteps nearing.
“Come on! We have no time for fooling around,”
Gillian pulled me up by my right hand and we both ran towards the venue.

We turned into a bend and I saw Senior So Young walking alongside Senior senior Yuri. Senior So Young saw us, or rather, me. I would be “tortured” even more. But wait, there’s Senior senior Yuri.

We have to reach before Senior So Young.

Almost there…

Plop.
I was down on the ground, sitting. I hurriedly stood up and gave my attire a quick run-through. Senior So Young came out from the bend clutching her clipboard in front of her. Senior senior Yuri was behind her with a file of documents in her hands.
I looked over at Gillian, who was standing at the other end of the line. She looked way neater than me. My uniform was all creasy and crumpled. I tried straightening it but it wasn’t working.
Both seniors were already in front of the line formed by all the trainees under Senior So Young. I was waiting for Senior So Young to walk towards me and pick on me like she always does. But… I think she went to the wrong person. She went to Gillian, the one who holds a very close resemblance towards me.
[Gillian’s POV]
Senior So Young stopped in front of the line and Senior senior Yuri was standing closer to Gillian. Senior So Young looked at me, from head to toe and smirked. She walked towards me.
“You must have been rushing, didn’t you? You’re late, aren’t you? You were here just 0.05 seconds faster than me. And I was late, so were you. Stayback after this meeting,”
After the whole pointless meeting, I stood there while the rest went on with their things.
“She, is the best candidate to fill the needed position in Korea,”
“Korea?”
Another senior stood in front of me with a thick file clutched in her hands.
“There is a position that needs to be filled in Korea. Since this hospital and the hospital in Korea has connections and a relatively good relationship, we have agreed to send one of our best nurses there,”
I must have looked dumb with my mouth hung open all the time the senior was explaining things to me. Then Senior So Young continued.
“So, you, being the best trainee nurse here and being able to speak in Korean, has been chosen because of my recommendation. You’ll leave tomorrow and we’ll never meet again. Goodbye,”
“Me? Speak Korean? That’s –,”
I wanted to say “Me? Speak Korean? That’s not me, it’s Charlene!” But before I was halfway done with my sentence, Senior So Young had already left. I turned to the other senior and wanted to start clarifying things to her but she handed me the thick thick file she was holding on to earlier on.
I looked up at her and she nodded, asking me to open up the file. I did as she wanted me to and flipped through the pages.
“Those are the 5 people you will be attending to, you would be their personal nurse. So Charlene, you can speak Korean right?”
Charlene? I’m Gillian! I hate it when people mistaken me for Charlene. And I can’t speak Korean, so I’m not going to Korea.
I wanted to start again, telling her that they have made a mistake. It must be the close resemblance I and Charlene hold. I looked down onto the file I was holding and was prepared to close it when I saw a picture.
He must be one of the 5 people I will be taking care of. His name is… well, I can’t read Korean either. But he had a height of 186cm. I stared at his picture. The words that were supposed to come out of my mouth like it was planned came out wrongly.
“What time will I be going there?”
“4am, there will be someone to fetch you at the airport. We will meet you at the lobby at 1am tomorrow morning. You may go back to your dormitory now and pack for tomorrow. Take a rest for you’ll be busier taking care of 5 patients from now on,”
I took my ticket and a photograph of another nurse.
“You look like somebody I met yesterday. She was running away from Senior So Young, she’s such a cute girl,”
She must be talking about Charlene. Nonetheless, I didn’t feel like explaining things to her or Senior So Young. I didn’t care if I knew Korean or not, I just wanted to fly there and meet this 186cm tall patient. Somehow, I think I had a little something towards him.
The other senior walked away and I too, walked back to my dormitory. Tonight, I will tell Charlene the good news.
As I walked back, I opened the file again and smiled. I didn’t bother to look at the other 4 pictures. Call me stupid or silly, but I think this is love at first sight.
