Chapter 12

Lethargically

*Westwood Apartment, 12:05pm*

Jessica sat in the apartment pointlessly staring at the switched off TV. Being someone living in the Qing period she had never encountered such technology before and didn’t know how to function it wither. Because no one was at home, time had been passing extremely slow. Jessica soon became annoyed at her boredom and decided to take another risk and go for a walk. She left the apartment forgetting to the keys and money Charmaine left her.

*On the Street, 1:24pm*

Kevin walked out of one of the largest tourist companies in Hong Kong after successfully signing a contract with them. He took out his phone and rang Frankie while he walked to his car, “Frankie… I’ve signed the contract and I’m on my way back now. Ok, bye.”

Kevin jumped in his car and started the engine; he glanced at his rear view mirror and saw Jessica stand by a pole quite confused. Kevin quickly jumped out of his car and walked up to her, “Ma’am? Are you alright?”

Jessica looked up; “Ga…” she suddenly remembered that he wasn’t the Ga Wing she knew of, “Good Day.”

“Do you remember me?” Kevin asked, “Last time I took you to the hotel and left you at the buffet, I came back down but you were gone.”

“Yes, I remember,” Jessica answered.

“So what are you doing here?” Kevin was concerned; every time he saw her she would be wondering the street aimlessly.

“I think I’m lost,” Jessica replied as she scanned the unfamiliar area.

Kevin took out his phone, “Do you have anyone’s number to call or an address that I can take you back?”

Jessica shook her head; in the past she had never had to remember things like that usually it would be her servants who remembered information like that.

“Um…” Kevin looked at his watch, he noticed the time was getting late and he had to quickly “I’m going back to the hotel, if you want you can come back with me and I’ll drop my stuff off then I’ll see if I can find a way yo take you home.”

If it wasn’t because Kevin looked like her childhood lover and best friend she would have never of agreed, but she felt a sense of trust, “Thankyou.”

*Outside a park, 2:51pm*

Myolie had finished her shift earlier so instead of waiting for Bernice she decided to go home first. She thought it would be healthy to walk so she took a short cut through the park back to her apartment. She strolled outside the park when suddenly loud gunshots were fired.

“Ahhh…!!” Myolie screamed hearing the loud gunshots. She saw right in front of her, two thieves wearing balaclavas on their heads firing in her direction.

“GET DOWN!” a voice shouted from behind her.

Myolie turned around and saw another man holding a gun flagging her to get down, but she was so in shock she just kept standing on the ground where she was.

Another gunshot was fired in Myolie’s direction and again, she screamed out loud.

“GET DOWN!” Bosco shouted, he looked up and could see Myolie’s scared face. He jumped up and took the risk running towards her. He grabbed her hand and pulled her behind another car as more gunshots were being fired. He squatted down pulling Myolie down with him, “Don’t move.”

Myolie had a blank face; she was so in shock she didn’t know how to respond but followed Bosco’s instructions and stayed really still. Bosco leaned back against the car and waited for a while, he was breathing hard as sweat trickled down his forehead. Gunshots were still firing in his and Myolie’s direction. Finally the gunshots had stopped for a split second and in that split second Bosco saw his chance and jumped out taking one shot at the robbers, hitting his leg.

Bosco ducked back hiding behind the car next to Myolie, a few seconds later siren noises filled the air as reinforcements arrived. Within a matter of minutes the two thieves were captured and taken away in the van. Bosco turned to Myolie who was still in shock, “Are you ok?”

Myolie didn’t say anything but just stared with her mouth opened. Bosco didn’t question her any further and just got up leaving her on the ground as he walked towards the one of the police vans. Slowly she stood up but felt something hard on her show, she bent back down and picked it up. It was a wooden phone accessory with the letters B.W carved onto it.

*Grand Hotel, Housekeeping Department, 3:15pm*

Raymond had never been so tired in his life; just training in the housekeeping department was taking his life slowly. For the whole morning he and Charmaine had been folding blankets and changing bed sheets. Although he hardly did any work but the amount he worked in that morning was more than he did in the past three years.

During the few hours of working, Charmaine hadn’t spoken to Raymond at all, she barely even looked at him, “I’m going to get some more clean sheets,” Charmaine finally spoke out.

Raymond didn’t respond and kept pretending to work. Charmaine seriously hated working with him but she had no other choice, she looked at him and rolled her eyes before walking outside. Raymond lifted his head a little and saw Charmaine walking out, finally he could rest, he sat on the bed and yawned loudly.

Without hesitation he lay on the bed stretching his arms, “So comfortable…” Raymond rolled around a little and eventually crawled under the sheets, with a matter of minutes he had fallen asleep.

Charmaine walked back into the practicing hotel room carrying a pile of sheets so tall that it was covering over the top of her head. She walked in and could feel the pile of sheets wobbling around losing balance, “Oi… can you help me?” she forced herself to ask Raymond for help.

There was no response from Raymond, she turned and shifted so she could see the bed. She couldn’t believe it, while she was carrying sheets and doing all the hard work Raymond was sleeping. She stepped closer to the bed and threw the pile of sheets on Raymond’s head, “Get Up!” she shouted.

Raymond jumped up not being able to see anything because of the sheets covering his head, “What?” he scrambled trying to take the sheets off his head, “What do you want?”

Charmaine took the pillow he was lying on and hit him over the head, “I’m out doing all the work and your just sleeping,” she kept hitting him with the pillow.

Raymond grabbed the pillow off of her, “Calm down crazy, gees. Just taking a nap.”

“Now we have to everything from the start,” Charmaine complained trying to grab he pillow back so she could hit Raymond again.

“Stop coming so close to me, didn’t I say that I don’t like homeless people touching me,” Raymond back away Charmaine mocking her.

Charmaine gave up, she really hated his arrogance, she hated the fact he kept on calling her homeless and she especially hated the fact that he was a friend with her father Moses. She stormed out of the practicing hotel room; Raymond smiled to himself in triumph and lay back down on the bed continuing his nap.

Charmaine wondered along the hallway still angry at Raymond. She took a step forward and bumped into a customer stumbling out of his room, “I’m so sorry,” she said holding him up.

Charmaine could smell the alcohol on the customer’s clothes. The drunk customer looked at Charmaine and held onto her shoulder, “Pretty lady… want to join me for a drink?”

Charmaine felt so uncomfortable at this moment, “Sorry sir, I…”

Before Charmaine could refuse, he slid his hand on her shoulder, she tried getting away but he pulled her back, “Where do you think your going?” he pulled her back into his hotel room.

“Help!” Charmaine yelled out before being dragged into the hotel room.

Frankie had just walked out of the elevator and heard a cry out for help. He knew something wasn’t right and followed the direction of the cry. He got to the end of the hall and only saw the last image of Charmaine’s hand’s being dragged into the hotel room. He couldn’t allow anything inappropriate to happen in the hotel. He ran forward and could hear struggling. Before the door could close Frankie stuck his feet out, stopping it from closing. He pushed the door wide open and saw Charmaine trying to release herself from the drunk customer.

“Help,” Charmaine cried to Frankie.

Frankie grabbed Charmaine’s hand and pulled her towards him, “Leave her alone!”

“Give her back, “ the drunk customer yelled, he picked up a glass bottle and swung it in Charmaine’s direction. Frankie saw and pulled Charmaine away, spinning her behind him.

The glass bottle smashed on Frankie’s arm, shattering to piece’s. His arm was bleeding non-stop but he saw the drunk man charging at him again, Frankie grabbed his arm and tripped him over pinning him to the ground, “Call security,” Frankie told Charmaine as blood dripped from his arm onto the carpet.

Charmaine grabbed the phone and dialled downstairs to security. A matter of minutes security arrived at the hotel room taking the drunk man away. Frankie pressed onto his wound, trying to stop the blood from flowing down, “Are you ok?” he asked concerned.

Charmaine was shocked as she stared at Frankie’s bleeding arm, “You’re hurt…”

Frankie smiled and looked at his arm, “Just a little scratch. If you’re alright then I’m going to go and wrap this up.”

Charmaine nodded her head. Frankie held onto his arm and walked off in the opposite direction. Charmaine smiled to herself as she watched her hero walk off.
