Chapter 14

Hostility

*Grand Hotel, Housekeeping Department, 5:00am*

Everyone was in the briefing room waiting for Louisa to arrive. Raymond stumbled into the room wearing giant sunglasses that covered the giant eye bags from under his eyes. Raymond, still not being use to waking up so early stood next to Charmaine. He shut his eyes falling asleep standing up and gradually started leaning in Charmaine’s direction.

Louisa entered the room and stood out the front briefing everyone, “Today is everyone’s first day, everything you learnt will be useful so hopefully no complications will occur.”

Charmaine suddenly felt a bit of pressure on her shoulder, she turned her head slightly and realised Raymond was actually leaning on her. She used her elbow and pushed him to stand upright. Raymond’s head was bobbing from side to side as he kept sleeping; unconsciously he leaned on Charmaine again placing all his weight. He tilted his head and leaned it on Charmaine’s head as a pillow as she kept on sleeping.

With all the weight from Raymond, Charmaine could barely stand properly but she didn’t want to make a noise distracting everyone. Once again she tried pushing Raymond back up, but Raymond just got more comfortable and was now totally leaning on Charmaine.

“Get off me,” Charmaine whispered not knowing Raymond was sleeping.

Raymond didn’t move but kept leaning on Charmaine. Louisa had finished her briefing and headed outside with the rest of the housekeeping staff. Everyone had left the room and Charmaine finally pushed Raymond off of her.

“What?” Raymond questioned half asleep. He took his sunglasses off and squinted his eyes seeing Charmaine, “Did you just touch me?”

“So what if I did?” Charmaine fired back at Raymond.

Raymond had a smirk on his face and leaned really close to Charmaine, “Attracted to me?”

Charmaine pushed Raymond away and left the room. Raymond put his sunglasses back on and laughed a little following her out the door.

As the morning went on Raymond who was partnered up with Charmaine kept on annoying her, this was the only thing keeping him awake and not falling asleep on the hotel beds. Charmaine was changing the bed sheets and looked up to see Raymond staring at her.

“Stop looking at me,” Charmaine said to him while she removed the pillowcases.

Raymond didn’t respond but kept staring at her making her feel so uncomfortable. She grabbed a pillow and was about to throw it in Raymond’s direction when they got an order on their walkie-talkie.

“Charmaine and Raymond, please assist in room 106 immediately,” the head office demanded.

Raymond and Charmaine both walked to room 106 and knocked on the door and waited. A few seconds later the door swung open with Steven Ma standing right in front of Raymond with a grin on his face.

At this point Raymond really wanted to crawl into a hole and hide. Of all people Steven would be the last person he wanted to find out he was now working as a housekeeper.

“Raymond Lam, how low can you go?” Steven laughed.

Raymond didn’t say anything but eyed Steven.

“Oh, so this time you have nothing to say? No witty comebacks?” Steven stepped aside, “I want you to clean my room.”

Charmaine had no idea what was happening but knew that Steven and Raymond had a lot of friction. Raymond and Charmaine walked inside the hotel room and it was filthy with stains and rubbish all over the place.

“Go on, clean. That’s your job,” Steven crossed his arms enjoying the moment.

For some reason Raymond didn’t mind anymore, he looked up at Steven and shook his head, “You are one boring person. You can’t beat me in anything else so you’re using this pathetic method to get your revenge. That’s so sad.”

Steven clenched his fist seeing the reaction of Raymond was not the one he wanted. Raymond could see Steven steaming up, “So useless you are… if it wasn’t for your brother helping you out you would have been long gone. Even your younger brother is more successful than you.”

Steven had enough, comparing himself to Bosco was just an insult in Steven’s eyes, he lifted his arm and swung his fist in Raymond’s direction, punching him in the face knocking him onto the bed. Raymond wasn’t going to back down, he jumped back with a little blood on his lip and charged in Steven’s direction, swinging his fist across Steven’s face.

Charmaine watched the two guys attacking each other, she knew she had to do something, “Stop it!” she pulled on Raymond’s shirt trying to stop him from attacking Steven.

Frankie walked down the hall and heard noises coming from the room. He ran towards the room and saw Steven about to take another swing at Raymond. Frankie grabbed Steven’s arm to stop him and pulled him away while Charmaine was holding onto Raymond pulling him away from Steven.

“Let go,” Steven shouted as he struggled releasing himself from Frankie’s grasp.

Blood was running down from Raymond’s mouth as he also tried charging at Steven. “Stop it!” Charmaine shouted holding tightly on his arm.

Frankie knew that he and Charmaine couldn’t hold them two apart for a long time, “Call the police!” he shouted out to Charmaine.

Charmaine nodded her head and grabbed out her phone dialling the police.

*Grand Hotel, Lobby, 12:30pm*

Ron stood behind the column, watching Myolie from a distance. He took a deep breath and started mumbling to himself, “So... Myolie… have you had lunch?” Ron hit himself on the head, “Course she hasn’t had lunch.” Ron kept on watching Myolie busily at work, he really didn’t know why he didn’t have the courage to ask her out or even talk to her properly without getting nervous.

Tavia walked into the hotel and saw Ron standing behind the column peeking at something. She walked towards him and leaned her head next to his trying to see what he was looking at.

Ron was totally immersed in staring at Myolie and trying to figure out a way to ask her out he didn’t even notice Tavia’s head next to his until he felt breathing down his neck. He turned his head slightly and jumped a little not expecting to see Tavia.

“What are you looking at?” Tavia asked still trying to see what he was looking at.

Ron blushed slightly and pointed at Myolie, “That’s the girl I’ve been telling you about.”

Ron and Tavia are best friends so naturally they would tell each other everything. Tavia took a glance at Myolie and smiled, “So that’s her,” she said trying to cover up slight disappointment that Ron liked someone else.

“I’m so nervous. Feel this,” Ron held onto Tavia’s hand letting her feel the coldness from his nerves, “Should I ask her out today?”

Since childhood, Tavia had always had an admiration as well as subtle feelings towards Ron but she had never actually acknowledged these feelings, “Go for it, you can do it and I’m sure she’ll say yes,” Tavia encouraged trying to be supportive while she hid her unknown true feelings.

Ron nodded his head and took a deep breath, he walked slowly towards the counter towards Myolie but stopped and turned back around to Tavia shaking his head hinting he couldn’t do this. Tavia flagged her hands telling him to go forth. Ron fixed his collar of his blouse and kept walking slowly towards Myolie, he could feel his heart pumping fast and hard as he gradually approached the front desk.

Ron looked up at Myolie who was looking in his direction; he slowly approached the table and smiled.

“Hi,” Myolie smiled looking straight pass Ron at the person behind him.

Bosco and Sammul approached the front desk. Ron stopped and turned around seeing Bosco with a slight smile attached to his face as he walked up to Myolie, he took out his Police identification, “Hong Kong Police, we received a call from your hotel saying there was a breakout.”

Frankie hadn’t had time to contact the front desk about this situation yet so Myolie had no idea, “I’ll just check,” she rang security and asked. “Come this way please,” Myolie told Bosco and Sammul.

The three of them left towards the elevator leaving Ron behind. He turned around and walked back to Tavia with his head down. Tavia put her arm around his shoulder, “There’s always next time.”

*Grand Hotel, Steven’s Hotel Room, 12:45pm*

Myolie walked next to Bosco as they stepped out of the elevator, “Thanks for last time.”

Bosco had almost forgotten about the encounter with Myolie, “It’s alright,” he said with not much of a reaction on his face.

Myolie turned her head slightly and glanced at Bosco, his coolness had captivated her in a way.

“Is it that room?” Sammul pointed to the open room in front of them.

“Yep,” Myolie led them to the hotel room.

Frankie was still holding onto Steven while Charmaine held onto Raymond’s arm. Both the guys had seem to calm down a little but still had rage in their eyes as they glared at each other. Bosco walked into the room and the first person he saw was Steven. Immediately he knew that Steven was causing trouble again.

Steven saw Bosco walking into the room, “Bosco arrest that idiot,” he demanded, “Stupid fool attacked me.”

Raymond really wanted to charge forward but Charmaine didn’t let go of him and pulled him back, “You punched me first,” Raymond defended himself.

Bosco glared subtly at Steven, he just knew that he would have been to one who started the fight.

“I’m going to sue you,” Steven pointed his finger at Raymond.

Raymond was about to defend himself again but Charmaine stepped forward, “Are you sure you really want to do that? I saw what happened, if you were to go to court I would happily be Raymond’s witness.”

Raymond looked at Charmaine surprised, he never expected her to actually stand up for him. Steven didn’t say anything knowing that he was in the wrong.

Steven wasn’t going to back down so easily, he’d rather take the risk than let Raymond beat him again; he tried going forward towards Raymond again. At this point Joe Ma walked through the hotel doors.

“That’s enough Steven,” Joe said firmly.

Bosco looked up seeing Joe standing by the door, “Dai Gor.”

“But…” Steven was burning with anger he didn’t understand why Joe would stop him.

Frankie let go of Steven, “We’ll call it even?” he suggested to Joe.

Joe nodded his head in agreement and pulled Steven out of the hotel room with Bosco following behind them. Charmaine finally let go of Raymond.

Frankie had a disappointed look to his face, “Ray, go clean yourself up.”

Raymond was also angry that the whole situation was let off so easily, but he knew that with his brother there, he couldn’t do anything about it. He walked out of the room wiping the blood from his mouth.

Frankie walked up to Charmaine and smiled at her, “Thanks for your help,” he held out his hand to shake hers.

Charmaine suddenly felt herself uncontrollably blushing, she raised her hand and shook Frankie’s hand, “No worries,” she felt the warmness as well as the firm grip to his hand.

*Grand Hotel, Lobby, 1:49pm*

Joe, Steven, Bosco and Sammul exited the elevator. “Dai Gor, I have to go back to the station.”

Joe patted him on the back, “Take care.”

Bosco and Sammul left the hotel first while Joe and Steven walked slowly behind them. Steven’s face was still lit with fury, “How did you know I was here?”

Joe stepped out of the hotel putting his sunglasses on, “Bosco called me.”

“I knew it was him,” Steven gently touched the bruise on his face, “Bosco that traitor… betraying his own brother…”

Joe let out a little laugh, “Since when did you treat him as your brother?” Joe stood on the kerb waiting for his car, “Don’t be so impulsive next time. You can’t be so obvious when defeating them.”

Steven knew Joe was right but he couldn’t control himself. Moses car stopped in front of Joe, he stepped out of his car and walked directly in front of Joe.

Joe had a smirk on his face, “Moses…” he reached out making a gesture to shake his hand.

Moses didn’t budge and stood in front of Joe. Moses could see his own reflection through Joe’s glasses while Joe saw his own reflection through Moses glasses.

Jessica stepped out of the passenger seat of Moses car and stood next to him. Joe took his glasses off and glanced slightly at Jessica and greeted her with a smile.

“Ma Duk Chung…?” Jessica almost caught off balance seeing Joe.
