Chapter 16

Dislocated

*Westwood Apartment, 10:12pm*

Bernice used her blanket to cover herself, she shuffled to the side of her bed as far away from Charmaine as possible, “What do you think you’re doing?”

In the future times, Charmaine and Bernice were really close. She would often tell everything to her mother thus she was already use to this custom of hers, “I have to go on camp in a few days.”

“And…?” Bernice asked shifting to the end of her bed touching the wall.

“Nothing just wanted to chat to you,” Charmaine unconsciously leaned closer to Bernice, “You’ve been working at Grand Hotel for a while, what do you think about the General Manager Frankie Lam?”

“He’s alright, I don’t really know him. Why do you ask?” Bernice questioned.

Again, Charmaine uncontrollably started going red again, “I… I’m just curious.”

Bernice looked carefully at Charmaine’s flushed face, “Do you… like him?”

Charmaine grabbed a pillow and covered her face, embarrassed of the whole situation. Bernice let out a breath of relief knowing Charmaine didn’t like her, “You should consider him.”

Charmaine removed the pillow from her face, “I don’t really know him and I don’t think he knows me either. We’ve only met like three times.”

“Well its up to you,” Bernice yawned loudly hinting she wanted to sleep, “Well I’m off to bed now,” and lay down closing her eyes hoping Charmaine would leave.

Charmaine didn’t move but kept sitting next to her thinking, the more she thought about it the more weird she felt liking Frankie is considering the fact she was from the future making him her dads age if they were in the future.

*Grand Hotel, 9:51am*

Tavia entered the hotel for her first official day in the hotel. Because she already has a degree in hotel management and experience in this field she would start off as a supervisor working at the front desk.

“Morning,” Ron greeted Tavia from behind, “Nervous?”

Tavia laughed, “Me? Nervous? I don’t think so.”

“That’s good then,” Ron took out a small red pack from his pocket and handed it to Tavia, “Just a bit of good luck for your first day.”

“I think you need it more than I do,” Tavia pointed towards the elevator where Myolie was walking from. “Go ask her out again…” Tavia didn’t even know why she wanted Ron to ask Myolie out so bad. Although she wanted Ron to ask Myolie but deep down she did find something that held that thought back.

“I um… have a meeting,” Ron quickly ran off in the opposite direction before Myolie reached the front desk.

Tavia always knew that Ron was a shy guy but she didn’t know that he was that shy. She approached the front desk, “I’m starting work today,” she said to Myolie.

“Oh… you must be Tavia,” Myolie walked out of her working area, “I’ll show you to the lockers.”

Tavia followed closely behind Myolie analysing her every move to see if she was worthy of Ron’s liking.

*Grand Hotel CEO’s Office, 12:12pm*

With Raymond actually working now Moses felt more bored than ever. He sat in his chair spinning a coin on his desk. He couldn’t even talk to his one and only friend, at this point Moses felt so lonely and most of all bored.

Moses really wanted to go out but he didn’t know where or even what to do, without his buddy Raymond life was just mellow. A few minutes later Moses door burst open. Moses with his head down on his desk jumped up seeing Bernice walking towards him with another plate of food.

By this time Moses knew the drill, without hesitation he opened his mouth.

“How do you know what I’m here for?” Bernice asked curiously.

Moses glanced at Bernice with his mouth still open, “What else would you be here for? Aren’t you going to force me to taste your disgusting food?”

Bernice took out a spoon and took a scoop and placed in Moses mouth, she watched carefully for his reaction and even prepared another plate for him to spit the food out on.

Moses had his usual disgusted expression on his face but this time he managed to swallow the food. Bernice waited patiently for his criticism, “It… it taste pretty bad but better than last time.”

For Bernice this was actually a compliment, she actually took Moses words as constructive criticism, “What can I do to improve it?”

“I don’t know, I’m not a chef. You have to figure it out on your own,” Moses said drinking some water.

Bernice knew he was right, in order for her to succeed she had to depend on herself. With a swift motion she left the office leaving Moses slightly confused but amused.

*Ma Mansion, 7:30pm*

Steven and Joe sat at the dinner table eating dinner while Bosco was still at the station. Halfway through dinner Steven threw his chopsticks on the table.

“What’s the matter with you?” Joe asked as he continued to eat.

Steven was still angry with the whole situation with Raymond, “Dai Gor, I seriously hate that Raymond Lam…”

“How many times do I have to tell you, don’t be so irrational and impulsive. Instead of taking just him down why don’t you take their whole family and their hotel,” Joe who also hated their family had the same fury towards their family but he chose a different path to defeat them, “Look at the bigger picture.”

“But…”

“You’re going to ruin everything if you insist on revenging. Don’t do anything,” Joe demanded Steven.

Steven sat back at the dinned table while Joe got up and walked upstairs. He wasn’t going to let things go so easily, Steven pulled his phone out and dialled a number, “Where’s Raymond Lam going to be these few days?”

*Grand Hotel, Housekeeping Briefing Room 5:00am*

Raymond strolled into the briefing room wide-awake, he was now use to waking up so early and didn’t feel sleepy at all. He walked over to Charmaine and took his camping bag off his bag and took his sunglasses off, “Morning…”

Charmaine looked at him weirdly, “Why are you being so nice?”

“I am?” Raymond smiled and shrugged his shoulders.

Louisa walked into the room, “As you know we will be heading out for our annual camp. Once we get to the camping grounds you and your partner would be given tasks to complete and you must complete them as a team. Let go.”

Charmaine knew she would be stuck with Raymond again and this time it was for the whole weekend. She really wasn’t sure if she could handle something like this.

*Camping Grounds, 12:42pm*

After a long drive they finally reached the destination. Louisa jumped off the bus with the other following behind her, “Grab what you think you will need out of your bag then grab a compass and map and make your way to the destination. See you guys in a few hours.”

“What? Is that all the instructions that she’s giving us?” Raymond said putting his sunglass on.

Charmaine grabbed a few things from her luggage bag and placed it in her small backpack. Raymond took the compass and map, also placing it in her bag.

The both of them walked up the mountain, soon everyone from the hotel had split in their own ways walking in different directions. Charmaine carried the heavy backpack holding everything of theirs while Raymond strolled along in front of her.

She was beginning to feel tired after walking for a few hours, finally she came to a stop, “Stop walking so fast.”

Raymond stopped as well, “I’m walking the normal speed, you’re the one who is walking slow.”

Charmaine took the backpack off her back, “That’s because I’m carrying the heavy stuff. What kind of a man are you letting a little woman like me carry this?” she passed the bag to Raymond and dropped it over his arm and continued walking.

Raymond could feel the backpack was actually quite heavy but in order to be manly he put it on his back and followed behind her. Another few hours had passed and Raymond really couldn’t stand it anymore, “Can we stop?” he shouted out almost out of breath.

Raymond took the backpack off and sat on a rock by the side of the tree wiping the sweat trickling down his forehead. Charmaine turned back around and sat next to Raymond and took out a bottle of water from the bag drinking it. She glanced at he watch and jumped up again, it was now 5:46pm.

Charmaine jumped up on her feet, “We better get going before it gets dark.”

“But I’m still tired,” Raymond complained a little.

Charmaine didn’t care and started walking. Raymond saw that she was walking further and further away. “Wait!” he shouted and jumped up running after her forgetting to take the backpack with him.

Another few hours had passed and by this time the sun had already set. Charmaine was starting to wonder whether or not they were walking in the right direction, “Hey can you get out the map?”

Raymond reached behind his back, it was only then he realised the didn’t have the backpack, “Oh no…” he mumbled to himself.

Charmaine turned around, “What?”

Raymond smiled awkwardly, “I think I lost our bag…”

“What!” Charmaine shouted making an echo sound through the mountaintop of the forest, “How can you lose the bag?”

“I don’t know,” Raymond really had no clue when he had lost the bag.

Charmaine couldn’t help but slapped him on the arm. The night was completely dark and the both of them continued walking trying to find their way. Though Raymond was walking behind Charmaine but he could feel that she was angry and first the first time he actually felt bad. A few moments later they climbed through the forest and ended up on a road.

Charmaine scanned both ends of the road, “If we follow the road it should lead us to the meeting point. But which way should we go?” she asked herself. Charmaine decided to go left and continued walking without acknowledging Raymond.

“Do you really have to ignore me?” Raymond asked out loudly.

Charmaine turned around facing Raymond, “If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have gotten lost.”

“It was an accident, its not like I intentionally lost the bag so we could get lost,” Raymond tried reasoning with Charmaine.

Charmaine crossed her arms and glared at Raymond. “Fine… I’m sorry. Happy?” Raymond said in a tone that Charmaine believed he didn’t mean it.

Charmaine kept glaring at Raymond making him even more sorry than he already was. “Look, I seriously didn’t mean to…” Raymond began to say but he suddenly paused seeing headlights from a car speeding in their direction. The car was travelling so fast it was obvious it was going to stop.

Charmaine stood with her back facing the oncoming car so she had idea what was happening, “Watch out!” Raymond shouted grabbing onto Charmaine’s arm diving to the other side of the road just as the car zoomed pass them.

“Are you ok?” Raymond asked as he held onto Charmaine.

Charmaine’s heart was pumping so fast out of fright, “I’m… I’m ok,” she stuttered a little.

Raymond helped Charmaine up and looked at car speeding off in the opposite direction. Suddenly they heard a loud screeching sound of the car jamming on its breaks spinning back around in their direction. The car was travelling at the speed of light as it charged in Raymond’s direction. Raymond saw the car coming and without thinking he pushed Charmaine out of the way, he took a step back as the car approached him and slipped rolling down the hillside.

The car didn’t stop and sped off not turning back around this time. Charmaine got up and looked down the hillside where Raymond fell, “Raymond!”

Raymond kept rolling down hitting a few bushes and rocks on his way down. He finally came to a stop after bashing into a tree knocking him right out.
