Chapter 34

Affection

*Grand Hotel, 8:32am*

“Is that Bosco’s jacket?” Myolie asked curiously.

“Um…” Tavia didn’t know how to answer, she was afraid that if she said it was Bosco’s jacket it may lead to misunderstandings between the two, “Nope,” she lied.

“Oh,” Myolie stood back and looked at the jacket closely, “Well, Bosco has the same jacket.”

“Really?” Tavia quickly took the jacket off and shoved it in the draw under the desk, “Um… is everything prepared for today?”

“Sure is,” Myolie answered somewhat in a chipper mood.

Tavia smiled awkwardly, “Ok…”

At this time Ron and Kevin walked through the entrance towards Tavia and Myolie, “Morning ladies…” Ron greeted. He glanced over at Tavia, knowing exactly what had happened the night at the bar but he didn’t want to make things awkward between them so he pretended nothing had happened and everything was just normal.

Ever since Ron had rejected Tavia at the bar, she had been avoiding him a little but after all they are best friends so she wouldn’t be able to avoid him forever. The only thing she could do was pretend nothing happened.

“Tav, why didn’t you catch a lift with me this morning,” Kevin asked.

“I had to get something. Funnily enough I arrived here before you did, driving like a turtle again?” Tavia mocked Kevin.

“Slow and steady wins the race,” Kevin had a cheesy smile attached to his face, he looked at the time, “We better get ready for the meeting, big day today.”

“What’s going on?” Myolie asked.

“All the shareholders are coming in and Raymond will be promoted to General Manager taking over Frankie’s position,” Ron explained, he turned to Kevin, “Let’s go…”

Ron and Kevin walked towards the elevator, “Raymond better be on time,” Kevin said as he pressed the button.

“And also Moses, what’s a meeting without a CEO,” Ron looked at Kevin and sighed, “they better be on time.”

*Lam Mansion, 8:45am*

Raymond yawned loudly as he slowly awoke. He opened his eyes and glanced at the clock, “Better get up,” he rolled over and felt next to him to find Charmaine missing. Raymond sat up and looked around his room, he jumped up off his bed and quickly got changed and brushed his teeth.

He walked downstairs towards the dinning table and saw two sets of breakfast already prepared for him. Raymond lifted up the plate and smiled, he crept towards the kitchen and stood by the door watching Charmaine who was wearing an apron standing in front of the stove scrambling some eggs. Raymond covered his mouth stopping himself from laughing; he crept into the kitchen slowly and stood behind Charmaine who still hadn’t noticed Raymond.

He stuck his head close to Charmaine’s, “What are you making?”

Charmaine not expecting Raymond jumped out of fright almost throwing the eggs in the air, “Ahh…” she slapped Raymond on the stomach, “Scared me…”

Raymond hugged Charmaine from behind as she continued cooking, “Is this for me?”

“No, you can make your own cereal, “Charmaine joked in a serious tone.

“What?” Raymond grabbed the spatular from Charmaine and started stirring what she was making.

“Ray… you’re making a mess,” Charmaine tried taking the spatular back but was still hugging her and holding her arms down, “Give it back… or else,” she threatened while she laughed.

Raymond stopped messing around and gave the spatular back but he kept holding onto Charmaine, he leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek.

Charmaine smiled shyly, the more she thought about it and the more she spent time with Raymond the more she realised how much she loved him, “Done,” she turned the stove off and tried serving up the food with Raymond still hugging her, “Ray… I can’t serve with you hugging me.”

Raymond finally let go and helped her take the food out. The two of them quickly ate breakfast and headed upstairs back into Raymond’s room. Raymond fixed his hair while Charmaine picked out a suit for him.

“Do you like this one?” Charmaine asked showing Raymond.

Raymond looked at the suit Charmaine was holding up, he suddenly had a saddened look to his face, “Dai Gor picked that out for me.”

Charmaine rubbed his shoulder in comfort, “I’ll find something else then…”

“Don’t worry, I want to wear it. I’m now the General Manager and I’m going to make Dai Gor proud,” Raymond took the suit and put it on.

Charmaine straightened up his tie, “Aww… look at you all handsome.”

Raymond flicked his hair, “I know…” he boasted jokingly.

“We better get going,” Charmaine noticed the time and if they didn’t leave now then they would be late.

“OK,” Raymond looked at himself in the mirror as he wore the suit Frankie picked out for him, “Dai Gor, I won’t let you down.”

*Grand Hotel, 9:31am*

Moses walked through the doors into Grand Hotel, he kept dialling Bernice’s number on his phone but no one was picking up, “Come on…” he dialled the number again and again there was no answer. He hung up the phone slightly annoyed and worried at the same time. He kept walking towards the elevator and waited for it to arrive. Just as he was about to walk in he saw Bernice walking into the lobby wearing her chefs uniform.

Moses sprinted over towards Bernice, “What are you doing?”

Bernice was slightly confused as it was quite obvious what she was doing, “I’m working…”

“What?” Moses sounded so shocked, “What did I say about working?”

“Yeh… but I’m fine… I need some movement,” Bernice started waving her hands around, “I can’t just sit around all day, it’s boring.”

Moses grabbed Bernice’s hand to stop her waving them around, “Then watch a move and you can also move your hands when you’re sitting down.”

Bernice didn’t understand why Moses was being so overprotective of her, it didn’t even seem like he was the same person, “Don’t you have a meeting to go to?” she asked trying to change the subject.

Moses crossed his arms, “I know what your trying to do and changing the subject isn’t going to stop me from tell you to go home and stop working.”

“You’re going to be late,” Bernice said ignoring Moses, she lifted his arm and pointed to his watch.

“Oh…” Moses looked carefully, “Fine, if you don’t go home at least go up to my hotel room and rest, I don’t want you walking around too much.”

“Yes dear,” Bernice pushed Moses along towards the elevator.

Moses stepped inside the elevator and headed towards conference where Raymond and Kevin were waiting for him outside, “You ready?”

“I guess so,” Raymond felt a tad uneasy since he had never attended these meetings before.

Kevin patted Raymond on the shoulder and pushed open the conference doors, everyone in the room stood up to greet Moses and Raymond.

“As everyone knows, a tragic accident has occurred with our former General Manager Frankie, so from today onwards Raymond will be filling his position,” Moses announced.

Raymond smiled and nodded to all the shareholders but everyone in the room didn’t have much of a positive reaction, and whispers slowly filled up the room. Raymond could tell that all the shareholders found him incapable of holding such an important position.

“Mr. Cheuk,” one of the shareholders stood up, “Do you really think Raymond can fill this position?”

Another shareholder followed, “Yeh, I mean he’s never worked here before and he isn’t the most capable…”

Moses interrupted, “I believe that Raymond is capable, anyone else agree with me?”

Kevin and Ron both raised their hands in support of Raymond and Moses. Since the two most capable executives were in support the other shareholders decided to give Raymond a chance. Shortly the meeting finished and Raymond didn’t say a word during the whole conference, mainly because he had no idea what was going on.

Raymond walked out of the conference room with his head down slightly lost, Kevin and Ron walked next to him, “It take’s time, we’ll guide you,” Kevin encouraged.

Moses walked out dialling on his mobile to Bernice, “I’ll see you guys later,” and ran towards the elevator.

“Show you to your room?” Kevin suggested.

Raymond shrugged his shoulders, “Sure…”

All three of them approached Frankie’s old office, “This is your room,” Ron pointed out.

Raymond stood at the door and just stared inside, everything was exactly the same as Frankie had left it.

“If you want, we can refurbish it,” Ron added.

“Nah,” Raymond placed his hands in his pockets and walked inside. He sat down on Frankie’s chair, “Where do I start?”

Kevin placed a pile of files on the desk, “Just read through these for now, most of the stuff are past projects Frankie had completed for the hotel, he kept a record of the process of how and what he did as well.”

Raymond raised an eyebrow, “Hm… ok,” and started reading straight away.

Kevin and Ron left the office and walked down the hall, “Do you think he will manage?” Ron asked.

“He’s a smart guy, should be alright,” Kevin looked at his watch.

Ron and Kevin walked pass an intersecting hallway just as Jessica walked down from it.

“Doing anything for your birthday tomorrow?” Ron asked Kevin.

Kevin laughed a little, “Same as every other year, just staying at home.”

“You’re a sad man,” Ron laughed as they continued walking, “I’m assuming you don’t want presents this year too.”

Kevin shrugged his shoulders, “Whatever…” and entered the elevator.

*Ma Mansion, 7:26pm*

Bosco walked through the doors just as Joe walked downstairs, “Do have an answer for me Bosco?”

Bosco knew exactly what Joe was referring to, “Dai Gor…”

“Don’t tell me you haven’t decided yet,” Joe was serious in his words, “You either pick her or you pick the hotel.”

Bosco found this decision hard to make, but he knew that he had to make the right decision, “I won’t let you down…”

“Good,” Joe smirked and walked into the lounge.

Bosco had no other choice but to give up on Myolie and choose his career over her, he walked into his room and sat on his bed picking up a photo of Myolie, “Sorry, but this is only temporary.”

A few seconds later Bosco received a phone call, “Hello.”

“Bosco…”

Bosco had only realised that it was Myolie over the phone, “Hey…”

“Are you busy?” Myolie asked, it had been a few days since she last saw Bosco.

“Not at all, where are you I’ll pick you up,” Bosco knew that it was time to let go of Myolie for the time being. He hung up the phone and grabbed his jacket only to realise that didn’t have it on him, it suddenly clicked, he picked up his phone and dialled Tavia’s number.
