Chapter 36

Reception

*Westwood Apartment, 10:01pm*

It was the night before Bernice’s wedding with Moses, she along with Charmaine, Jessica and Myolie all sat on her room preparing for the big day.

Charmaine was really going to miss living with her mother but yet she was extremely excited attending her parent’s wedding. Since the break up with Bosco, Myolie had been hiding her sadness really well; no one could tell that something had happened to her. The only thing was that she just couldn’t face Tavia knowing that she was Bosco’s new love.

All four of the ladies were chatting and having fun on Bernice’s last night but for some reason Bernice had suddenly burst into tears.

“What’s wrong?” Myolie quickly comforted Bernice.

Bernice continued to sob, “I’m going to miss living with you guys… and even Charmaine and Jessica,” she cried even louder.

Myolie and Charmaine couldn’t help but start to tear as well, “Don’t be like this Bernice…” Myolie tried to hide in her tears.

“Yeh…” Charmaine cried out of both happiness and sadness, “We’ll see you at the hotel and we can always visit you.”

Even Jessica who was quite opinionated with Bernice had suddenly burst into tears, “Stop crying… you all are making me cry too.”

The four ladies just sat on the bed crying over how Bernice is getting married and moving out. Myolie was crying the hardest since she and Bernice had been living together for such a long time.

“We… we should… stop crying,” Myolie tried talking but her she choked on her tears, she wiped her tears off her cheek, “It’s a happy occasion, we should think of happy thoughts.”

Charmaine wiped hr tears away, “Yeh… otherwise you’ll wake up with enormous eye bags.”

“Yeh… and Moses won’t want to marry you,” Jessica joked.

Bernice eyes bulged wide open and quickly applied a mask on her face, Myolie and Charmaine followed and lay down on the bed with their eyes closed. Jessica sat next to them holding up the mask, she had no idea what it was.

“Um…” she pulled on Charmaine’s shirt, “What’s this?” she whispered.

Charmaine could hardly move her mouth, “It’s called a mask, just put it on. Make’s your skin white as snow.”

Jessica thought there was no harm in trying and placed it on her face. All four ladies lay on the bed and eventually all fell asleep.

The morning came and the bright light shone in Jessica’s eyes waking her up first, she stretched her arms and sat up with the mask still attached to her face. She looked over at Charmaine, Bernice and Myolie were all still sleeping with their masks on. Jessica took her mask her and washed her face, she strolled out of the bathroom and glanced at the clock, to realise that the guys were going to pick Bernice up in less than an hour.

Jessica ran back into the bedroom, “Get up!” she pulled Charmaine up first, “Get up! Get Up! Get Up!”

All three of them jumped up on there feet and looked at the time, “We’re going to be late!” Myolie shouted.

Bernice ran out of the room straight into the bathroom while Myolie quickly got changed. Charmaine wasn’t sure what her job was but she just rushed around because that was the atmosphere.

Bernice ran out of the bathroom, “Why didn’t you set the alarm?” she scolded Charmaine a little, “that was your only job.”

Charmaine paused for a minute and remembered that was her only job, she chuckled awkwardly, “I guess I forgot…”

Jessica and Charmaine were the first to get ready while Myolie was still setting Bernice’s hair. A few seconds later the doorbell started ringing, “We’re not ready yet!” Myolie shouted out.

Charmaine and Jessica opened the door to see Moses, Raymond, Kevin and Ron all wearing tuxes with huge smiles on their faces, “Morning ladies…”

“Um…” Charmaine eyed Raymond indicating she wanted more time.

Raymond totally didn’t get what she was trying to do, “Where’s the bride?”

“Yeh…” Moses tried charging through, “Where’s my bride?”

“She’s…” Jessica said but before she could finish her sentence the guys charged in the apartment and to Bernice’s room.

Moses stopped at her door with the other guys behind him, she had a horrid look to his face, “Um… your not ready…”

Bernice smiled cheekily, “Almost done… give me ten minutes…”

“If you don’t come out in ten minutes then I’ll meet you at the hotel,” Moses joked.

Bernice gave a glare at Moses, “What?”

Moses took a step back slightly frightened of Bernice, “I’ll be outside…” and ran to the living room, “She’s just getting changed…”

Another fifteen minutes passed and everyone was still outside waiting for Bernice, “Should of ate something before I came,” Moses stomach started growling.

Finally, Bernice walked out of her room in a dashing white wedding gown. Moses eyes lit up seeing how beautiful Bernice was. He walked up to her and held her hand, “You’re… just… just so perfect.”

Bernice looked him in the eyes and smiled shyly, “I know…”

Raymond, Kevin and Ron started laughing. Charmaine stood next to Raymond and elbowed him in the stomach, “It’s sweet, stop laughing…”

“Let’s go…” Jessica shouted shuffling everyone out of the apartment.

*Grand Hotel, Function Room, 7:06pm*

One by one the guest started to arrive at the Moses and Bernice’s wedding function. Jessica and Kevin were both organising the seats and just finishing up on the final touches to the function. Although they both were doing the same thing but Jessica tried really hard to avoid Kevin.

Kevin got up from his table at the same time as Jessica and accidentally bumped into her, “Sorry…”

Jessica smiled slightly, “I’m… just going to go there…” and quickly ran towards the other side of the room.

Kevin didn’t even have time to call after her, he sighed and watched her run off. He did know why but he could feel Jessica putting up a barrier between them two.

Raymond was standing at the front of the function room overlooking all the decorations; he really liked the atmosphere of the wedding. Charmaine saw Raymond just standing and not helping out.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Oh… nothing,” Raymond replied.

Charmaine crossed her arms, “Ray… why aren’t you helping out? Or welcoming the guest.”

Raymond wasn’t even listening to her as he gazed at the wedding hall, “Doesn’t all of this make you want to get married?” he blurted out without even knowing what he was saying.

“What?” Charmaine didn’t know if she was hearing right, “What did you just say?”

“Huh?” Raymond snapped out of his gazing, “What was that?”

“What did you say before?” Charmaine asked.

Raymond thought back to what he had said, he suddenly realised what he said and smiled as he held onto her hand pulling her close, “About marriage?” he had a mischievous grin to his face, “Do you want me to propose to you?”

“Ha…” Charmaine backed away a little, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Raymond pulled Charmaine closer to him again and kissed her on the cheek, “Do you want me to? All you have to do is ask. I know you want me to.”

“Ray…” Charmaine slapped him on the arm blushing slightly.

Ron walked pass Raymond and Charmaine, “You two should get a room,” he joked.

“You’re just jealous,” Raymond sniped back at Ron.

“Oh I so am…” Ron said sarcastically. He continued walking and saw Myolie from a distance. She wasn’t really herself; well at least from Ron’s point of view. He walked towards her, “Hey, you alright?”

Myolie had a forced smile to her face, “I’m alright…” she looked up towards the entrance and saw Bosco walk in. She had suddenly remembered inviting him to the wedding and he had actually shown up even after they broke up.

Bosco walked towards Myolie and Ron, “Hi.”

“Hi,” Myolie greeted back.

At this moment Tavia walked through the doors near Bosco. The four of them stood silently, Ron was the only one who had no idea what was happening, “Is something wrong?”

Bosco hid his sadness well away from everyone else, even though breaking up with Myolie was hard but he had to believe he didn’t care and he had to believe that he has fallen for someone else to the point that his lies were in fact the truth.

“I’ll see you around,” Bosco turned around and held onto Tavia’s hand pulling her away.

Ron was shocked to see what was happening, how could Bosco and especially Tavia do such a thing. He turned around to Myolie who was still in silent, at this point he knew the only thing he could do was to be with Myolie.

Bosco pulled Tavia out of the function room onto the balcony, she finally struggled her hand away from Bosco’s, “What are you trying to do?”

“What?” Bosco asked innocently.

“You’re making me look like the bad person, the third party who stole you away from Myolie,” Tavia shouted.

Bosco continued on with his lie, “Tavia, I want you to tell me to truth. Do you like me?” Bosco didn’t even let Tavia answer, “I know you do so don’t even lie to yourself.”

“I…” Tavia started saying.

Bosco held onto Tavia’s hand, “You didn’t come between me and Myolie, things just didn’t work out. But with you its different, I couldn’t control myself. I couldn’t control falling in love with you,” the lies coming out of Bosco’s mouth were so believable that he was actually beginning to believe he loved Tavia.

Tavia was touched by his words, she knew that somewhere in side of her she had feelings for him as well, “What about…”

“We don’t have to care about anyone else,” Bosco hugged Tavia, “Just me and you.”

Ron and Myolie watched Bosco and Tavia from the outside, she couldn’t take it any longer and turned away. She smiled at Ron, “Wedding’s starting soon.”

The more Myolie smiled the more worried Ron would get.

The lights dimmed slightly as the wedding song was being played. Moses and Bernice walked into the function room together, hand in hand as all friends and family gathered around cheering the happy couple. Moses and Bernice walked up on stage and posed for a few photo’s.

Moses took a step forward, “Thank you for attending mine and Bernice’s wedding, don’t really know what to say besides that I didn’t know I actually had that many friends.”

Everyone in the crowed started laughing. Moses laughed into the microphone but stopped sensing Bernice’s glare, “Um… well all my life I have had one passion which is food and cooking. I have finally found my better half to share the same passion. Although Bernice can be a bit domineering and like to take charge and occasionally scold me for no reason, but that’s what I love about her.”

Moses held onto Bernice’s hand, “In other peoples eyes these may be negative traits, but I don’t see it that way. This is what makes Bernice so special,” Moses turned to Bernice, “I love you,” and leaned in kissing her softly.

Everyone in the crowed applauded at Moses speech, no never expected Moses to make a speech like that. Tears flowed from Charmaine’s cheek as she watched her parents marry. Raymond put his arm around her shoulder and wiped the tears from her cheek as they continued cheering the married couple on.

Thanks for reading!! seems like Bosco's lies are becoming more believable even to himself... and things are quite awkward between Jessica and Kevin...
