Chapter 50

Threat

*Hospital, 11:00pm*

Although visiting hours were over but Moses and Jessica were still in Charmaine’s private hospital room talking. Moses was still getting use to the fact that Jessica and Charmaine are from different time periods and he also couldn’t believe that relationship he had with these two ladies.

“So… is that why you were always picking on me?” Moses asked Jessica, “You know… with all the standing up straight and stuff?”

Jessica smiled, “Yes, as the oldest male in the Cheuk family you have to act like the leader.”

Moses bobbed his head, “Ok,” he quickly turned to Charmaine in case Jessica gives him another lecture, “So am I cool dad?”

Charmaine copied Moses and bobbed her head along not even knowing she was doing that, “Yeh… a little strict on some level but over all pretty good,” she smiled cheerily giving him the thumbs up.

Moses was about to open his mouth and ask another question but Kevin had burst through the door holding a few pieces of paper in the air, “I have it!”

“Have what?” Jessica asked sitting him down and giving him a glass of water so he could catch his breath.

Kevin could hardly catch his breath as he took a large gulp of water, “I’ve worked out how you guys may have travelled here,” Kevin held up the two pieces of paper and showed everyone.

Moses, Charmaine and Jessica all looked at each other having no idea what Kevin’s complicated diagrams meant, “What are we meant to be looking at?” Jessica having the least idea.

“Come on…” Kevin shoved the paper in front of Charmaine’s face, “you should know.”

Charmaine looked carefully, “Looks like an eclipse,” she shrugged her shoulders still not knowing where Kevin was going.

Kevin took a loud gasp and flip one of the pages, he took out a pen and started drawing a simple diagram, “Ok, according to Jessica, she said that there was a lunar eclipse the day before she arrived here and Charmaine said that there was a solar eclipse the day before she travelled too,” Kevin drew the two diagrams of a solar and lunar eclipse forming a line together.

All three of them looked closer at what he was drawing and was starting to see it more clear. Kevin continued to explain his theory as he continued the diagram, “The solar and lunar eclipse must have occurred at the same time in both your times thus forming a straight line like this,” he showed them the diagram, “This must have some how opened up a portal or creating a scientific wormhole pulling you two into the present year. Make any sense?”

Jessica, Moses and Charmaine looked at each with a slight idea as to what Kevin was getting at, “This does make a little sense,” Charmaine took the diagram and looked at it.

“But how do I get back?” Jessica asked.

“Well I guess we just have to wait for the same thing to occur,” Kevin said, “Still thinking about how I will work how when it will happen though, probably soon because according to history it should be soon.”

Jessica sighed a little as she looked over at Kevin, although she wanted to go back but the only thing stopping her decision was Kevin.

“Is Charmaine going back too then?” Moses asked curiously.

Kevin really couldn’t answer that at this point, “Maybe, maybe not. If it’s a two way thing and both are needed to make the transaction then yes she must go back otherwise I don’t know how much of a difference it will make.”

Moses looked over at Charmaine concerned, “If you go back, then what about Raymond?”

Charmaine knew that this day would come; she knew that there was a high possibility that one day she may have to leave Raymond forever and without even an explanation. But even if she was destine to go back to the future she was determined to wait until the day baby Charmaine was born in order to stop Raymond from being killed.

*Bernice’s Hospital Room, 10:06am*

Moses had hardly any sleep but he had to manage not only the hotel but also his wife and daughter. He walked into Bernice’s room where she was sitting on her bed knitting, “Morning…” he sat beside her and kissed her on the cheek, “Feeling better?”

Bernice smiled very happily, “Sure.”

Moses thought it was a little strange that Bernice had become so happy and cheery after she had lost a child, it was as if nothing had happened but he didn’t want anything to upset her mood, “That’s good.”

Bernice continued knitting as the doctor walked into her room for a routine check up and browsed her chart.

“When can she be discharged?” Moses asked.

The doctor had a slight frown on his face, “Well Bernice stable at the moment but I highly recommend that she stay in the hospital till she give birth.”

“Why?” Moses stood up concerned hearing such a recommendation.

“Honey, don’t be so worried,” Bernice pulled Moses back down, “It’s only like less than three months,” Bernice turned back to the doctor and smiled, “I’ll love to stay.”

“Then that’s settled then, we’ll take the best care of her.”

Moses sat back down with a worried face not because of the doctors recommendation but of Bernice’s attitude. The Bernice he knew would never want to stay in a hospital room for two months, he knew something was up but just wasn’t sure what it was.

*On the Street, 12:26pm*

Tavia strolled down the street by herself, ever since the day Bosco slapped her, he had started to treat her very weirdly. At times he would be very close to her but other times he would be very cold and distance to her. Tavia had such mixed feelings about this situation, she love Bosco very much and would do almost anything to stay with him.

She kept thinking about what was happening and accidentally tripped on a step leading up to the shopping centre. Ron and Myolie were coming out the shopping centre and saw Tavia on the ground.

“Tavia,” Ron ran up to her and stood her up, “Are you alright?” he looked at her bleeding knee.

“I’m fine…” Tavia tried to walk on her own but could hardly get her balance.

“No you’re not,” Ron sat her back down, “I’ll buy some bandaids for you.”

Myolie stopped Ron, “Stay here with her, I’ll get it,” and walked back into the shopping centre.

Ron sat down next to Tavia, it had been a while since he had talked to her. Ever since she was with Bosco he had be seeing less and less of her, “How have you been?”

Tavia had a forced smile, “Pretty good.”

“Is he treating you good?” Ron asked very concerned of her best friend since he knew what kind of a person Bosco is.

Tavia was a little resistant to answer, “He’s treating me very well.”

Ron found it hard to believe but he had to be supportive, “That’s good then,” he looked Tavia in the eye, “if anything thing happens you will always have me. You’re my best friend and I’ll always stick by you no matter what.”

Tavia nodded her head and smiled happy to know that Ron wasn’t mad at her, having him as a friend was one of the best things in her life and she was truly grateful for that.

Myolie walked out of the shopping centre with a bandaid, “Here,” she bent down and placed it on her knee, “Much better.”

“Thanks,” Tavia looked up at Myolie, she knew that Myolie was in fact the best choice for Ron.

“We’re going to get some lunch, do you want to join us?” Myolie offered.

“Sure,” Tavia stood up with the help of Ron and Myolie as they walked towards a coffee house next to the shopping centre.

*Ma Mansion, 5:59pm*

Bosco sat quietly with his arms crossed on the lounge waiting for Tavia to return home. Tavia walked inside, the house was filled with silence, although it was usually a little quiet because Bosco was mainly by himself but today it felt strangely more quiet than usual.

“Hey,” Tavia greeted as she walked a little closer to Bosco.

Bosco closed his eyes for a while and didn’t make a sound.

Tavia could sense something wrong with Bosco but she only thought it was something to do with the hotel, “Is everything alright?”

Bosco opened his eyes, “Why don’t you tell me?”

“What do you mean?” Tavia stood next to Bosco who was still sitting down.

“Had a nice little chat with your friend Ron?” Bosco slowly stood up and faced Tavia, “Bet you had a great time didn’t you?” Bosco took a little step forward, intimidating Tavia greatly.

“I just…” Tavia began to say but was cut off by Bosco again.

“Talking about me I assume?” Bosco took another step forward making Tavia step back in defence but Bosco grabbed Tavia’s arm and pulled her really close to him, “If I find that you have betrayed me in any way then I swear of my Yi Gor’s grave that not only you but Ron will have hell to pay.”

Tavia was shocked to hear such a thing from Bosco, she stood there in silence not knowing how to respond.

“Did you hear me?” Bosco asked wanting to confirm that she understood.

Tavia quickly nodded her head in acknowledgement. Bosco smiled and gave Tavia a hug, “I’m only doing this because I love you and I don’t want someone that I love to betray me.”

Tavia glanced at her bruised arm caused by Bosco’s graps, “I won’t…” Tavia assured Bosco. At this point she wasn’t sure if she was scared of him or that she just didn’t want to leave him.

*Hospital, 12:08pm*

Raymond strolled along the hallway to pick Charmaine up from the hospital. He walked along thinking it was slightly weird that he’d actually found out from Ron and Myolie that Charmaine was being discharged from the hospital today as oppose to her telling him. He kept walking along the hallway passing Bernice’s room. Raymond stopped and decided to visit Bernice and see how she was going.

He knocked on the door and walked inside to see Bernice sitting on her bed knitting, “Hey, how are you feeling?”

Bernice was thrilled to see Raymond, “Raymond! What a pleasant surprise, what are you doing here? Why am I even asking, you’re here for Charmaine.”

Raymond smiled and nodded his head and at the same time thought that there was something weird about Bernice, she had suddenly become all cheery which wasn’t really like her. Raymond looked around the room, “Is Moses here? He told me he was coming to the hospital.”

“Not here yet, maybe he’s just buying me some food,” Bernice kept knitting.

“Well, I’ll visit you some other time, take good care,” Raymond left Bernice’s room and walked along the hallway passing through the different wards and the many rooms.

Charmaine was in her room packing the rest of her stuff ready to leave. Moses arrived thinking that because he was the dad that he had the duty of taking his child home.

“Still packing? That’s not one of my traits you have, I’m a fast packer,” Moses joked.

“Ha ha Dad,” Charmaine shoved the rest of her stuff in, “So why are you here, I’m leaving today anyways.”

“I’m your father, I have to bring my child home safe and sound,” Moses said trying to show a fatherly figure.

“How’s mum doing? Think I might pay her a visit before I leave,” Charmaine suggested concerned how Bernice was doing.

Moses sighed a little, “She’s doing fine I guess,” Moses sat on the bed, “I don’t know, she’s doing a little too fine if you ask me. But nevertheless, it’s better than her being really sad.”

“I guess so,” Charmaine zipped up her stuff, “I’m done.”

“Why didn’t Raymond pick you up?” Moses grabbed Charmaine’s bag, “Come to think of it, I haven’t seen you two together for a while. Is something wrong?”

Charmaine was a little quiet, she wasn’t sure whether she should tell Moses about what will happen to Raymond or not, “Nothing’s wrong…”

Moses and Charmaine walked out of the room and headed down towards the reception. Just as Moses and Charmaine walked out Raymond had arrived outside of her room and saw the two of them walking together.

“Why is Moses with Charmaine?” Raymond mumbled to himself as he followed behind them. He stood from a distance to see what was going on, he never knew that Charmaine and Moses were that close. Raymond watched as Moses held onto Charmaine’s bag and kept chatting and laughing with each other.

Moses turned his head and saw Raymond in the corner, “Hey!” he waved Raymond to come over, “I thought you said he wasn’t coming,” he mumbled to Charmaine.

Charmaine smiled a little, “Hi.”

“Hi,” Raymond wasn’t sure why but he felt the way Charmaine treated him was a little strange, “Um… What are you doing here Moses?”

“I…” Moses began to say but Charmaine gave a subtle nudge on Moses arm so he wouldn’t say anything wrong, “I just went to visit Bernice and then saw Charmaine… yeh…”

Raymond saw the nudge but didn’t say anything, “Oh really?” Raymond knew that Moses was lying since he just Bernice.

Moses looked at the time, “Um… I better get going, have a meeting to go to,” he gave Charmaine’s bag to Raymond, “Take her home, bye.”

Charmaine and Raymond walked to the car park in silence. After knowing Raymond was going to die, she really didn’t know how to face him. Every time she saw him she was automatically see the image of him dieing. She wasn’t even sure what she could to prevent something like that from happening.

Raymond looked over at Charmaine and reached out to hold her hand but Charmaine didn’t expect it and out of reflex she pulled her hand away.
