Chapter 55

Amused

*Westwood Apartment, 11:43pm*

Moses fell onto the ground after receiving the punch from Raymond. “You’re my best friend, I can’t believe you would do this to me!” Raymond shouted walking towards Moses.

“What are you talking about?” Moses asked so confused as he tried to get up.

Charmaine rushed towards Moses and helped him up, “Raymond Lam what was that for?”

“I should be asking you two this question, I finally understand why you have been so distant with me for so long its because you’re having an affair with him,” Raymond shouted pointing at Moses.

Both Charmaine and Moses couldn’t believe what they were hearing, especially Charmaine, she couldn’t believe that Raymond would think of her like this, “Is that what you really think?”

“You’re so stupid Raymond Lam,” Moses couldn’t believe that he would actually think that, he had been best friends with him for so long and he didn’t even trust him.

“Yes I am stupid,” Raymond walked forward wanting to take another swing at Moses but Charmaine pulled him back.

“Stop it Raymond!” she tried to pull his arm away from Moses.

Raymond suddenly took a swing backwards trying to throw Charmaine’s grasp away but he miscalculated his angle and hit her across the face knocking her to the ground. Raymond stopped, he couldn’t believe what he had just done, “Charmaine…” he reached out to her.

Moses was furious at Raymond’s action; not only about his misunderstanding but mainly that he had just punched his daughter. He pulled Raymond away from Charmaine and helped her up, “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Raymond looked at Charmaine feeling so sorry for what he had done, “I’m so sorry…”

Charmaine didn’t say anything but stood in front of Raymond with her eyes tearing.

Kevin and Jessica walked out towards the lounge and saw the three of them standing by the door, “What’s going on?”

Raymond turned around and saw Jessica and Kevin, it was at this point that he felt so stupid, “What are you guys doing here?”

“I live here,” Jessica said slightly confused.

“We’re just discussing some stuff,” Kevin replied also feeling confused like Jessica.

Moses pulled Raymond’s arm and pushed him out the door, “Get out!” he slammed the door in Raymond’s face but Raymond blocked it with his foot, “Charmaine… I’m sorry, I just thought you and Moses…”

Moses opened the door back up, “You thought that Charmaine and I were having an affair? How can we have an affair when she’s my daughter?” Moses accidentally blabbed out.

“What?” Raymond didn’t know if he had heard right or not.

“You heard right, she is my daughter from the future and Jessica is my great grandmother from the past,” Moses said to Raymond so he could finally understand, “I don’t know how you could even think of us like that.”

“I… just…” Raymond couldn’t even get his words out. He looked over at Charmaine feeling like knives jabbed into his heart, he couldn’t believe that he would think that in the first place.

“The only reason why she has been avoiding you is because she knows that you’re going to…” Moses was going to continue talking but Charmaine jumped in and interrupted him.

“Raymond… just leave,” Charmaine said not being able to even look at him.

“Charmaine,” Raymond tried to hold onto her hand but Moses just pushed him away and slammed the door in his face.

“I can’t believe that Raymond would actually think that about us,” Moses yelled, “And I can’t believe that he just hit you, I don’t want you to see him again.”

Kevin could tell by Charmaine’s expression that she didn’t want to leave Raymond, “Maybe it was just an accident…”

“I don’t care if it was an accident or not, he shouldn’t just jump to conclusion,” Moses was very serious, “I’m being serious Charmaine, if a person you love doesn’t even trust you then why be with them at all.”

Charmaine nodded her head not wanting to think about anything, “I’m going to bed…” and wondered back to her room saddened by everything that has happened. She touched her face where Raymond accidentally hit her, although she knew it was an accident but it still hurt. Not physically but it hurt her inside. She lay on her bed and thought about it and maybe this was actually for the best, if they broke up then Raymond wouldn’t be as sad when she left.

It really saddened Moses seeing his daughter being treated this way and by his best friend, “I’m going to get going,” Moses grabbed his coat and turned to Jessica, “Grandma…”

Jessica knew exactly what a parent would be worried about, “I’ll talk to her, don’t worry.”

Kevin helped Jessica clean up after Moses left. Kevin watched as Jessica carried the cups to the kitchen, he knew the time he had left with her was decreasing very quickly. Although he knew that Jessica going back to the past was inevitable but he really wanted to make the most of it.

“Jessica,” Kevin stood up as she walked back out, “Um… since you’re going to be leaving soon I was wondering… if I could take you around?”

Despite Jessica not having the chance to visit many places in Hong Kong she also really wanted to spend the last couple of days she had here with him, “I would love to.”

Kevin smiled with relief, “Ok,” he put his jacket on, “I’m going to go now too, bye.”

Jessica locked the door and walked back into her room, she opened the door and saw Charmaine lying on her bed with her eyes wide open, “Are you ok? I really don’t think Raymond meant to hit you,” Jessica although furious with Raymond but at this point she only cared for Charmaine.

“I know…” Charmaine sat up, “Grandma… I can’t let Raymond know that he will die, I can’t let him know that I’m leaving. If he tells me to stay then I know that I will give in. I don’t know what to do.”

“Do what ever you feel is right,” Jessica sat in her bed, “Are you really going to let him go now?”

“I really don’t have a choice,” Charmaine sighed, “I have to distance myself away from him otherwise I won’t be able to leave. But I’m just worried about Bosco…”

“Moses will make sure he is safe the night we leave,” Jessica assured Charmaine, “but you have to promise that you will be harsh with Raymond, if you really break up with him then you can’t see him or have any contact with him.”

Charmaine knew this was tough but it was for the better, if they both don’t return from where they came from then the Cheuk family line would be in jeopardy.

*Grand Hotel, 3:52pm*

It was the afternoon and Charmaine still hadn’t turned up for work, Raymond waited outside for Charmaine to arrive, he really wanted to apologies and explain to her about his actions. Moses stepped out of his car and stood in front of Raymond. He was still extremely angry with the way he treat Charmaine.

“She’s not coming…” Moses said coldly.

“What? Why not?” Raymond asked following Moses into the hotel, “let me talk to her, she’s not returning my calls or anything, I just want to say sorry.”

Moses stopped and turned around, “I can’t believe that you would suspect that she and I are having an affair,” he whispered slightly not wanting everyone to hear.

“You can’t blame me for suspecting you guys,” Raymond tried to defend his suspicion a little, “you two were just acting way to suspicious around each other. How was I suppose to know the weird and confusing relation you two had.”

Moses kept walking, “That’s not the point. In the end, you didn’t trust her or me. And the only reason why she acted weird around you is because she knew that you are…” Moses suddenly remembered he wasn’t meant to say anything to Raymond.

“What does she know about me?” Raymond asked hearing Moses say those words.

“Nothing,” Moses stepped in the elevator, he glared at Raymond, “Just leave her alone.”

Raymond looked at the time, he had decided to leave and go find Charmaine but suddenly received a phone call, “Hello, a meeting now? Do I have to be there? Fine… I’ll be up in a while,” Raymond hung the phone up and quickly rushed to the conference room so he could finish the meeting.

*Hotel Regal, 4:09pm*

Bosco sat in his office overlooking the view, ever since Tavia died and ever since he found out that he was being used by his so called ‘family’ he had felt so empty. Everything around his just seemed so pointless and the only thing that was holding him up was to avenge for those he felt had a part in leading his life into such misery.

The phone in Bosco’s office rang, he swung his chair back and picked up, “Moses and Raymond are on bad terms?” Bosco couldn’t help but to burst out into laughter, “That Raymond is so stupid, I can’t believe the distrust he has for his best friend and his girlfriend. Good job,” Bosco hung the phone up and continued to laugh.

He laughed so hard that he was starting to tear, he took a deep breath, “This is actually quite funny,” Bosco was starting to take all of this as a big joke, he found it that ruining their lives was the best way to compensate for his lost.

*Hospital, 6:31pm*

Moses opened the door to Bernice’s hospital room and again she was still knitting, this was already her forth sweater that she had knitted. Moses shut the door behind him; he looked at Bernice, “Hey…”

“Hi honey,” Bernice was just so cheery, “I’m knitting you a sweater,” she showed Moses.

Moses sat on the bed next to Bernice; he really felt that her actions and her emotions just didn’t match what she had just gone through. It just wasn’t right for someone after having a miscarriage to act so happy and it wasn’t just being happy but it was being extremely cheery.

“Bernice I want the truth,” Moses held onto Bernice’s hand to stop her from knitting, “Are you really feeling happy? I know what you must be going through loosing one of out children, but you don’t need to suppress you’re sadness like that. I don’t want to see you like that.”

Bernice stopped knitting and paused for a moment, she forced another smile on her face, “I’m not sad at all.”

Moses took Bernice’s knitting off of her, “It’s alright to be sad, it’s alright to cry. Don’t hide how you really feel.”

All the sadness Bernice kept in was suddenly released as a drop of tear flowed from her eye. Moses held onto her as she began to cry in his arms, “It’s ok, it just wasn’t meant to be,” he touched her stomach feeling baby Charmaine inside, “But we have another child and I can assure you that she will grow up to be smart, funny and intelligent like her mother.”

“How do you know?” Bernice looked up at Moses with her teary eyes.

Moses smiled and wiped the tears off her cheek, “I just have feeling…”

*Outside Westwood Apartment, 8:36pm*

The night was cold and dark; Raymond had been standing outside of Charmaine’s apartment for the past hour constantly calling her wanting just to see her to apologies for hitting her. The wind blew in his face as he dialled her number again but it went straight into the voicemail.

For the tenth time he left another message, “Charmaine I know you’re up there… I’m not going to leave until I see you, I just want to apologies…”

Raymond looked up at her apartment; although the weather was cold he still wasn’t going to leave. All he wanted to do was tell her how sorry he is for hurting her. He suddenly felt a drop of rain fall onto his head and within a matter of seconds it started raining heavily but Raymond didn’t budge and kept standing in the same position.

Thanks for reading!!! looks like things are going downhill for Raymond and Charmaine... and with Moses not allowing Raymond to see Charmaine anymore... seems like a strict parent.. but is it legit for him to be so angry??

and it looks like since Bosco has lost his family and Tavia the only way to fulfil his life is to ruin ppl who he hate.. he finds it rather amusing than anything else...
