”Anzu are you…”
Angry with him?
“I’m not! Don’t… just don’t lose control of yourself anymore!”
Okay she is, Azure thought remorsefully as she turned her face to look at the far away sceneries once more. Silence ensued for quite a long time before the cerulean-haired maiden spoke again.
“Promise me.”
She turned around slowly, finally revealing her face once again after a long while. The similar ivory ring she had, except that she wore it on a different ear, produced the same tingling sound he loved to listen to. As she stared at Azure with her stern eyes, the latter nodded bluntly.
“I promise you… “

“And of all times, you got hurt right after I performed the song. Don’t expect me to waste my Mu on you again!”
Another voice sounded equally annoyed.
”And what’s with your Mu? So frightening!”
”That Red plus Brother Kazo, they are both pedophiles! I wonder what they see in you!”
“…”
”… but then… can’t deny you’re quite, no, just a teeny weeeeny … I emphasize, it’s a teeeeny weeeeny bitsy …… … … … … … …”
She seemed to be mumbling to herself a lot. Then, it was followed by a sound of a cloth being wrenched dry by her huge force. His long icy-blue hair disturbing his wounds was being brushed off to the front, and the cloth she held was then pasted onto his back…
“I-It’s cold… and it hurts.”
Sensing the stinging sensation, Azure opened his eyes and turned his head around to see who was attending his wounds. And to his surprise, as much as to hers, it was Lilith. He sat up with a little bit of difficulty and looked at her with his expressionless face, stunning her for quite a moment.
“P-Please say ‘Ouch’ next time to express your pain, Mister!”
”Where are we?”
“Somewhere in an abandoned hut quite far from Vanadium. Brother carried you here. Oh well, be right back~!”
After she stuffed him his top forcefully, all washed and cleaned of blood stains, she rushed out of the little hut they were in immediately with the cloth she used. Unknown to him, her face has turned slightly pinkish.
”…What did she saw?” Azure thought innocently.
Another figure came in right after, and when she threw back the cape she wore to conceal herself … It was Red. Apparently, there were severe sunburns all over her bandaged limbs. The Kurt stood by the door and gave him a satisfied grin… followed by bear hug in an outburst.
”Azure!! Your big sister, me, adores you so much!”
She pounced onto him, causing his wounds to hurt again. This time, he remembered Lilith’s teachings.
“Ouch.”
“Ahh, am I hurting you? Sorry!”
She half-plastered her face onto his and rubbed too and fro affectionately. Azure noticed that when Kurts are excited or happy, the little wings at their backs will flap non-stop. Different from the Kurt he spoke to only a few days ago, this lady over here seemed like an entirely different person.
“Behold, the power of freedom.”
She explained and at the same time, helped him with his ear ring while he adjusted his top.
”What an exquisite ring you have here.”
”It seems like a symbolic item for the place I’m from. Anyway, where are Kazo and Gunter, and the other Kurts?”
The burning question he has been dying to ask was finally being spurted out. Red smiled and pointed to the ajar doors, beyond which Kazo and Gunter could be seen sparring with each other to hone their skills. He has not really seen how Juhnas fight, and apparently Kazo is better off with his punches and kicks while Gunter uses his wits and nifty gadgets to aid his battle. Size-wise, Kazo is winning.
“Those two are hyperactive. The other Kurts have been told to seek refuge at Ruthern Woods, where Lady Maya and the Juhnas will take care of them. Don’t worry, I’m sure with their abilities they will be able to make it.”
Red’s remarks shocked Azure. So, he asked, she knew about Lady Maya too? Seeing his empty looks again got the female Kurt to hug him affectionately, yelling ‘so cute!’
According to her, Lady Maya was not only a renowned sage for the Juhnas, but she was famous to the entire world as well. Every other race respected her, except for the Humans, who feared her Mu. Gunter and Kazo came into the hut, both relived to see Azure woken up again.
“Boy, don’t push yourself so much next time!”
Kazo hugged Azure as affectionately as Red, whom shunned him like a fly, yelling ‘Get away from him!’
”Mister no-name, I think I have some leads to your past.”
Gunter’s words silenced the atmosphere, including Lilith who has just entered the hut once again. Azure swallowed the lump in his throat, and agreed to have Gunter go on with his clues. All the others chose a place to sit and listened to the little Juhna attentively.
”After observing your Mu twice, I am surer than ever. The Mu you had is violent and unstable, nonetheless very powerful. ”
According to him, Mu is a shapeless entity which possesses a person right at the moment he or she took their first breath of life. It reflects its user’s soul, its quality and strength. Since Azure’s Mu is formidable, he must have a soul of steel. Mu’s form will be molded according to what the person desired the most.
“Mine was a … bird?”
“A huge bird, handsome boy!”
Kazo cut into the conversation. Red nodded, for whatever reasons not too clear to the others. As Gunter rambled on and on, Azure began to understand certain things.
”It was said that in the Ancient times, when Humans and the other races were still at peace with each other, Mu users were actually people chosen by the great god Anu. The Almighty gave a drop of his blood to these people, thus his power. “
”Who is Ishtar?”
Azure remembered the Maiden’s Prayer which Anzu sung in his head, and recited the lyrics to his friends. All others within the hut appeared to be greatly surprised. It seems that the lyrics Azure knew were a different version from what they had learnt from young. Ishtar was never mentioned in their version. Gunter rubbed his chin for a minute while others watched him in silence. Then, he looked up at Azure from his height again.
“I … don’t know. Since Ishtar was mentioned together with Anu, they must be of the same origins… Gods.”
The silent atmosphere grew even more intense. After all, Mesopia’s thousands of years of history are being challenged by a single name.
(***Mesopia is the world the people lived in this story. Derived from the name of the ancient civilization, Mesopotamia. ***)
“Nobody knew what exactly a Mu is,” Gunter added in a low whisper, “But one thing is for sure: Yours is special. No doubt about that. It wasn’t detectable while we were on the slave ship, and it could not be contained with the anti-Mu device. I found the symbols that appeared while you are engaging your Mu familiar… maybe I need to do more research. Ah… yes… The Temple of Bahaaj could be the key.”
Gunter’s appearance as a little child is deceiving. The way he spoke sounded as if he has acquired a hundred years of wisdom. Nonetheless, from his words, their journey will continue, until they reach the temple where Azure is found. But before that, shocking news struck the strange boy once again hard even before he could react.
”The ring you wore on your ear,” Gunter pointed to the pretty ivory accessory on Azure’s right ear, “After much research, I believe it was a form of a token. A token of love to be exact, which is similar to what married Giants and Tartans wore. Although I don’t know which tribe or race it was from, yet, but there should be another person wearing the same thing on her other ear. “
The way Gunter spoke was too calm to not be a joke. But we know he is of course not joking. Azure blinked for a moment, looked at the others whose jaws have dropped tremendously, and narrowed his eyes.
“…I see.”
That was not quite the reaction the others had expected. So that means… He is married?
