With great difficulty his eyelids battered and struggled to open, attracted by the sweet scent of the white lilies lying by his side. But before he decided to fully wake up, he wanted to enjoy this peace for a little longer. Somehow, it felt as if he has been away for a really, really long time.
Perhaps it was really so.
He opened his eyes suddenly, and the scenery in front of him was not what he had expected. Where is the desert, the cave? The explosion? Ladhul? Lilith? Instead, he found himself lying on a vast meadows bloomed full of lilies. Snow-capped mountains lined its borders, which appeared slightly bluish at the base and whitish at its tips. A wooden shack stood alone beside him, although it appeared to look more like a shabby tent created for temporary uses.
Some distance away, inside the shack, sat a girl wearing a white robe made of fine silk. As the breeze burrow through the windows, her cerulean long hair followed its course. She wore no particular accessories on her, but her demeanor spoke otherwise of her status.
Unlike his usual dreams, she was now being tied up on her wrists and ankle and made to sit on the hard floorings of the shack.
“Oi! How long are you planning to keep me tied up like this?!”
As she called out in frustrations, her eyes emanated a murderous aura.
“This must be yet another dream,” he thought suspiciously while still wondering when he will return to reality.
”Dream? Yeah I sure wish it is.”
She did not sound as friendly or gentle as she looked… And he wondered why. No wait… something is coming back to him. His mind was suddenly infested by pieces of a puzzle putting into order again.
”The… Shack… The mountains… The girl…”
He remembered something now. Last night (?) he was supposed to be robbing the Temple’s offerings and distribute it to the poor like what he would usually do to the other wealthy but corrupted officials’ homes.
”I saw a … huge chest which wrote ‘Monetary Offerings’ on it... ”

“Monetary Offerings? Ugh… But I can’t seem to be able to open it~!”
Without even a torch in his hands, he had worked his way to the current location skillfully. The ‘Stealth Shadow’, as what the public named him, was notorious for his infiltrating and pilfering skills. His combat skills were not too bad, but as compared to the warriors, his would only be able to fend for himself until he finds a way to escape. More importantly, his stealthy footwork was what made him a big threat to the corrupted and a great hero to the oppressed.
Seeing the chest as huge loot, he tried to lift it up. While it is possible, it would break his backbone if he were to carry it back all the way to the Shack.
”Well, not with my handy tools.”
Night time is for thieves like him to come out and play. He has long since young planned to loot the Temple of their funds, and has dug a secret backdoor for the task itself. Taking out several tools including some wheels, he worked on the chest for a quick while and then began to transport it back to his hideout.
“With these, the people wouldn’t have to be hungry anymore.”
Excitedly he pried open the chest. Initially it gave a creaking sound… and then followed by quiet breathings… What he saw was no gold, but a human within. A warm, petit girl lying asleep in the chest.

“You found me and took me home and tied me up like a beast’s muzzle.”
The girl’s voice managed to bring him back from dazing. Everything seemed so real to him right now, he thought strangely, and it seems that who Lilith and Ladhul were does not matter anymore. They were ebbing away from his memories… Memories? Who is the girl in front of him now then?
“Finding a woman in a chest which was labeled as ‘Monetary offerings’, who wouldn’t be shocked? Why are you hiding in the chest in the first place?” Azure asked dubiously, as he finds it hard to accept that all his tiring work has gone down the drains.
“Humph, you think I will tell you? Blehhhhh!”
The girl stuck out her tongue in defiance. A surge of anger rose quickly in him, but was soon suppressed by the growling coming from somewhere…
”You hungry?” Azure asked, half-laughingly.
The girl turned her head to the side and snug into a cluster of blankets to hide her embarrassment. Even so, he could see her flushed face. Okay, he thought, so she is hungry. He disappeared from the shack for quite some time before returning with a bowl of soup containing various types of wild mushrooms.
“There you go.”
He stretched out his hands and offered her the food, only to invite more evil stares from her. Remembering the fact that he has been tying her up due to his shock, he quickly released the restrains. Somehow, he noticed that her wrists and feet were rather small. Can he trust that she would not escape back to the Temple and tell the elders about him? Azure’s heart raced at the thought of this, but he chose to believe.
”Don’t worry; I’m more than happy to get out from that place. I won’t run from here, for I have to thank you for your hospitality.”
As if reading his thoughts, she answered without holding back, although she did added a small extent of sarcasm into her words.
”I am Anzu, what about you?” she asked warmly while gobbling up the mushrooms.
”I cannot tell you my real name, for I have not trusted you enough.” He answered taciturnly. As a thief, giving the others his real name might be too dangerous.
"Yes, yes, everything you say."
Anzu laughed and then stared at the other end of the room as she munched away her ration.
She had an identity which he did not realize, and he had a name which she did not know; but all that was about to change after their acquaintance. And from that day onwards, the encounter with Anzu became a part of his memories.
