Chapter 30

Irresistibly a Moonlight Shower

“Scarlet!!!”

As a woman called frantically from behind, Damask ignored her and continued to sprint towards the palace where the princess he is supposed to find is. But then, there is this scent carried by the wind to him from the woman that made him want to stop for a moment.

”She is…”

To be calling him by his old name, he considered, she must be a Kurt who knew who he was. Analyzing her to be a potential danger of exposing himself, he changed his route and made for the open desert beyond instead. As predicted, the woman followed closely behind. Soon, there were only the two of them left in the open wilderness.

He turned around to see who she is.

Golden tresses hovering above her glassy blue eyes, a narrow tail and pair of little membrane-liked wings…

“It can’t be…” He thought in disbelief.

“Scarlet!”

The blonde woman called out once more, her watery eyes could no longer contain her angst. Separated for eight years only to be reunited in this kind of situation. And they are no longer siblings, but possible enemies.

”I’ve finally… found you…”

She closed their distance and stretched out her hands so that she can feel her brother once more. But, she was rejected by a cold hand.

“Stay away from me, Kurt woman. Following me suspiciously through these long distances, I deem you as a threat to me. “

Red felt dejected at first, but remembering her resolution made in front of Iris, she bit her lips and stared at him sternly instead.

“A threat you say? But of course, I am one of the few who knew about your past. But don’t you forget that I was your sister, and I forever will be!”

“Sister? You are a Kurt, a minion from the Night, and I am a Human. How can two different races be of the same blood?”

True enough, he does not have the wings and tail like Red’s.

“You are Duke Scarlet von Weiss of the Night. Even though your appearances have changed, the blood in you stays the same!”

Damask knew that he will be on the losing end in this tongue-fight continues, and thus, violence is the only way --- Not that he wanted it to be though.

“Enough talk, woman! I will make sure you regret stalking me!”

Gathering a reddish Mu in his palm, he then inserts it into the Machinan compass he was using. Fighting a Kurt fighter like Red, he concluded, would require his every ounce of energy. When the device’s energy and his merged, it sunk back into Damask’s skin and disappeared.

“What…?”

Red was shocked to see the bizarre technique her brother is using, and judging from the amount of energy surrounding him right now, she knew that she might really die from this battle.

“A Mu of crimson, you think I don’t recognize whose it belonged to?”

As she spoke, she took out the thorn whip hanging by her hips and sprang towards Damask as fast as she could. She brandished her whip from a few meters away, and all Damask did was to stand motionlessly on the same spot --- Or at least that was what she thought. In a split second, her brother has disappeared from her view like a red shadow.

She began to crack her whip in directions based on her senses.

The tiny sandstorm is being created by the impact of the siblings exchanging blows, and it subsided after a while to reveal only one standing figure.

“Yours skills have become rusty.”

Damask placed his materialized blade next to his sister’s throat.

“No, you have improved. A combination of Machina and Mu… what a strange technique,” Red said as she panted heavily on the sandy grounds. Just then, a slight tingling feeling went up her spine. The time has come.

“Looks like I have no other choice.”

“?!”

“Have you forgotten…? The curse and gift of the Night?”

A curse and also a gift… Something which runs in the blood of his sister and other Kurts but not him, and will only manifest during a full moon night. As Damask recalls, needle-liked facial hair began to grow unstoppably on Red’s face and body. She closed her eyes to take in a breath nourished by the moon. Her painted nails and fangs were too growing longer at an alarming speed into cutting and piercing weapons. The wings and tail on her back were gone. Her tresses were no longer of shining gold, but a dull brown resembling a wolf’s fur.

Lycanthropy.

With her raised prowess, Red made use of her limited time to spring into action once more.

“Now that we are equal, I will beat the pulp out of you and make you come back with me!”

The woman in front of Damask growled violently and cracked her knuckles. Her voice is no longer alluring to men, but rather she sounded like a hungry beast.

“Y-your majesty…”

“Is everything ready?”

“Y-yes but Princess Iris… she is still not found… And commander Damask…”

“Then so be it. Aim the Apocalypse at Tartan and fire at once.”

“Y-yes!”

“We are reaching the city soon; I can see it some distance away!!”

Lilith screamed in excitement as she fled with Azure from the sand monsters which became more aggressive as night falls. To aid in their run, she has thrown away her turban and false moustache to lighten the weight on her. If they could get the truth out of Ladhul, they will be the winners of the Race. And so, time is a crucial factor --- Only a few hours left to the end of the Race.

Azure tightened his left hand’s grip on the last Machina cube Ladhul and his gang left behind. Somehow, this final one did not self-explode like what the others did. He does not know why he wanted to bring it along on their return to Tartan, but he felt that it might be important.

”A-ahh!”

Lilith tripped on a small rock jutting out from the sand and fell. A sand wurm chasing right behind them got ready its mouth to devour her, but was instantly pulverized by Azure’s attack. Strangely, Lilith felt that Azure’s combat skills seemed to have gotten a lot better ever since his coma.

It does… somehow… felt like he used to be a thief or some sort?

”Are you alright?”

Azure bent down to lend her his hand, and Lilith gladly accepted it.

“Sorry, I was too anxious to get back,” He apologized.

“No, I was the one holding the both of us behind... Come on, let’s continue!”

Lilith gave him no chance to speak as she took his hand and continued on their run. To be able to hold his hand and locking their ten fingers like this, she thought in secret, is already an accomplishment.

“Maybe I have fallen for you way before then…” Lilith blushed as she ran, ignoring the anxiety over her lost flute.

“There, the palace!” Azure called as his eyes sighted something.

Standing tall amongst a series of small houses is the majestic palace of the Tartan lands, made of solid gold and precious stones. Whilst focusing their eyes on their target, they failed to glance at a silver dot in the sky which appeared to be much brighter than the stars and is moving towards them at a crazy speed --- The Humans have launched their attacks.

Err, well, readers might get some indigestion though =x
For anyone who loved Red (which i doubt there is)
i think i need to apologize for making her turn into
a voracious... er no, ferocious beast lols.

For Lilith, i have tried my best to let
readers have the "awwww..." effect lol
