”I er… I … I …I…” Azure is tongue-tied.
“If only… that other ring had not belonged to Anzu.”
Emotions overwhelmed her once more but she forced herself to calm down. And for a moment which lasts like forever, the two people on the tree found no more words to say. Little known to them, Kazo and Gunter has been hiding behind a thick deadwood for sometime already.
“Azure….!” Kazo munched his fingernails as he thought furiously, “H-how dare you!!!”
Gunter merely shook his head and sighed.
At that moment, a dark figure rushed through the woods and alarmed both the people on top as well as those on the ground level.
“Who’s that?!” Kazo’s shouts exposed his hiding to Azure and Lilith, but now is not the time to care about that anymore. With his instinct as a woodsman, he could tell exactly where the figure was heading to next. He sprints forward agilely, and caught the petite intruder within a few seconds. Although he did not use any brute force, the person collapsed instantly. Gunter rushed over to identify the Human’s identity, with the moonlight revealing her badly grazed face.
“Lilith… ...? But she was on that tree!”
“Kazo, she’s Iris.”
“Lilith changed her name?!”
Ignoring Kazo’s dim remarks, Gunter ordered him to help carry the princess towards their civilization. It seems that she was the only person able to escape from the tight security of the human’s metropolis. Holding something close to her chest, the item within her closed fists was being protected firmly.

“There… are you awake now?”
A soothing voice came like spring’s warm breeze. The aroma of sandalwood eased her nerves. Iris rubbed her eyes for a moment before coming back to reality. Something has been in her closed fists for a long time, and its sensation made her recall what had happened.
“Juhnan Elder,” she got down from her bed forcefully to face the elderly woman directly, “This is the blueprint of the Apocalypse.”
As she hands over the piece of crushed paper, the other Elders, as well as Azure and Lilith, were shocked to a large extent. With this and Gunter’s intelligence, they might be able to find a way to destroy the superpower of the Human leader which has been suppressing them. Also, the secret behind the Human’s advancement in technologies now be shared among other races.
“And this,” Iris placed another item onto Lady Maya’s hands. It was a Machinan device resembling a palm-sized round mirror. And upon a touch from her slender fingers, the princess activated it to show a hologram. Initially nobody could figure out what the small trees and rectangular blocks displayed were, but Gunter soon realized the value of the device.
“It is… the map of the entire metropolis of the Humans!!” the small Juhna yelled in shock.
“Yes. Scarlet has been working on this in secret ever since eight years ago when he pledged a false loyalty to my father. It depicts all of the hundred levels of our metropolis, including the hidden rooms and arsenal. Furthermore, all of our military’s information including the types of firearms, amount of soldiers and machinas has been recorded in detail.”
Scarlet… Red thought sadly as she finally came to realize the reason behind her brother’s sudden betrayal --- It was to give them a future which in the past the others can only hope for. With this map and the blueprint, the Humans’ main weakness has been exposed. The Kurt closed her eyes for a moment to keep her tears to herself.
“There is no more time to waste. Now that father knew what Scarlet and I was up to, he will take all chances to strike before us!”
The moment the human princess mentioned “father”, Lilith’s expression changed slightly. It was then the twins noticed each other’s presence for the first time. Same face, same voice, but they are two individuals with very different personalities. It was a strange feeling which can only be conveyed with a complex smile between them.
Other than this, there is something which pains the first princess’ heart.
“Where is Scarlet now?” Red inquired worriedly.
“I… don’t know.”
A simple answer, but it left the others in the room in silence. Iris did not cry, but the pain she felt within her can be shown clearly in her expression. Perhaps it was due to their connection at birth; her sister felt a similar piercing agony in her heart. Or maybe it was a misery of her own.
Azure was spacing out during the entire conversation between the elders and Iris. No matter how hard he tried, he could not help but kept his eyes away from Lilith. Within him, he is searching for an answer.

“There are too many!”
The grounds shook as if an earthquake as the pursuers in gigantic Machinas stomped their way through a valley of smaller buildings. Scarlet held Iris’ hand tight in his as they made way for the entrance, riding in a stolen Machina. The blood on his injured arm drips mercilessly from their interlocked fingertips, revealing to them an undeniable truth --- With numerous Machinas were chasing them close behind, and the odds of them escaping from their doom is as good as nil.
“Iris, listen to me.”
“I know what you want to say, but please…Scarlet…We can get out of here!!”
“No, Iris, we only have a single ticket for the return trip…”
“I don’t want to hear---“
“One of us must stay behind to ward them off, and it will be me.”
Scarlet opened the hatch of the Machina they were in, disregarding Iris’ protests. The air flows rapidly into where they were, aerating the nerve-racking atmosphere surrounding them. Iris understood what he meant by a one way ticket. Although her heart screams her reluctance strongly, she knew she had to let him go at the end. The items in their possession are too precious to lose.
“I … understand,” she endured her agony and gave him a nod at last; “I’ll save my kiss until we meet again, just to make sure… that you stay alive… until you are home to retrieve it.”
“And my home will be where you will be.”
Their hands parted each other before Scarlet plunged into the sea of Machinas with his Mu all charged up for firing. That was the last she saw of him before her Machina shook off the pursuers finally and made her way towards Ruthern Woods.
“Stay alive, Scarlet.”
