Wait, he felt another presence despite his eyes being closed. It was not Elder Kongi, the giant he captured, but another person much stronger than anyone here. Although there is only one possibility, it cannot be…
Scarlet fought with his heavy eyelids to have a proper look. And true enough, the familiar young man with a mane of strange jade green is now lying unconscious in a separate cage. Two scientists were forcefully penetrating similar transparent tubes into Azure’s badly grazed skin, tapping into his source of power. Scarlet can only watch, as he no longer has the energy to even call out to him.
”Begin.”
Schwartz Geiger watched from afar.
“Yes, my lord. Now… let us see how far this boy can go…”
Lancelot cracked his knuckles excitedly and then entered several keys into the computer which controlled the machina.
“Amount of detectable Materializing Units: Zero.”
“WHAT?!”
Lancelot shrieked as the computer reported the situation. As said by the former captain Sowell from the slave-management department, Azure’s mu is not detectable even with the technologies of his slave ship.
The scientist did not give up, and instead of frowning, he appeared to be more excited than ever.
So the special treasure needs a special key, Lancelot thought.

“What do we do now, Lady Maya?”
Kazo asked nervously for an impossible answer. Just as the alliance thought that they were winning with the Apocalypse’s blast being repelled again, he has never thought that all these were part of the Humans’ plans. Now that Azure is captured, the situation has been turned against them in the worst manner.
Sitting around him were the leaders from all five races: Maya, Alliduddin, Gorgon, Poseidon and Red. Each had their own line of thoughts and none could think of a best plan. Silence then overwhelmed the entire place, until---
“Since the way to destroy the machina is known, I suggest we kill the boy together with it.”
Elder Gorgon voiced out his opinions in a low tone, his arms crossed in front of his bandaged chest. With Azure as the energy source, the other captives were probably not needed anymore. Only his life is at stake now.
“No! We can’t do that! Azure is our friend!”
Red smacked the rosewood table hard before she shot up from her seat. Her anger seemed to be brighter than the crimson armor she donned.
“Then what do you suggest, Lady von Weiss?
“We’ll save him!”
“We can’t remove the energy source abruptly like that; it will cause the whole system to go into berserk mode.”
Gunter’s words stung everyone’s heart hard. Since the Apocalypse is powered by a quantum core located deep within it, his initial plan was to have Azure and Lilith infiltrate into the metropolis’ arsenal. And while Lilith removes the captives from their linkages to the machina, Azure substitutes his energy in place of the others to prevent getting the machina into its berserk mode.
To achieve that, his mu must be equivalent to the sum of all captives. Then, he was supposed to direct his energy to the quantum core and crush it.
But all these were no longer possible since Azure himself is being immobilized onto the monster and have his life linked to it. Even with their powers combined, the elders’ amount of mu will not be enough to match his.
“The only solution now…” Gunter continued reluctantly with his eyes staring at the floor “Is to have a Mu user crush the core…”
And thus ending Azure’s life.
”NO!”
Kazo, Red and even Alliduddin stood up to object the plan.
“But…”
“But we have to destroy the machina before it destroys us all.”
Maya broke the chain of fiery arguments with a final statement.
“I am sure Azure will understand.”

In a corner of the hut where the conference was held, unknown to the others within, a quiet sob sounded as the grim plan was laid. Sitting silently on the soft grass patches outside the hut, scraping a handful of earth with her stronger hand, Lilith buried her head in between her knees and wailed.
Iris found her sister a long search, and when she too hears about the news, she found no words to say to comfort her.
“He said he’s going to give me an answer, Iris… He said he is going to be alright…”
So why…?
“Let’s pray, Lilith.”
She said slowly as she hugged Lilith’s head. Uncontrollably, her tears too began to fall, dampening the silky hair in her arms.
The younger sibling then hummed a soft tune of the Madain seri, the song of prayer which priestesses of the creator gods used to sing. And after a few lines, Iris joined in. The harmony is expressed with melancholy, and occasional trembling in some parts due to their sobs. Eventually it stopped abruptly before the last two verses in the lyrics.
Kazo and the others peered out of the hut to check the source of the tune, and found the two sitting outside to overhear what they are going to do to Azure. He understands how his sister felt, and is ashamed of the decision they have made.
Sending their prayers to heaven, the twin sisters pray for their beloved to return home to them.
“O Lost sparrow from the flock,
Return to where you belong...”
