Although his mind is becoming unstable due to Lilith’s loss, he knew he has to carry on. The world is doomed, indirectly in his hands.
“…When there is trouble, nobody bothered to help the oppressed. They fled, and robbed the others in times of crisis.”
Dishonest Tartan citizens can be seen sneaking into other houses to grab their belongings and valuables when the Humans first fired their Apocalypse a month ago.
“There is betrayal…”
Their Tartan friend Ladhul turned his back on them over a mere gem.
“Tyranny…”
The late Schwartz Geiger gave up his daughters and his citizens in order to achieve world conquest.
“Distrust…”
Gorgon and the people of Ruthern woods were skeptical about one another and eventually called for Azure’s death.
Coldness, isolation, hatred, jealousy….
“And…”
“And hope!”
Before Azure can finish his words, Lilith shouted at the top of her lungs towards him in the sky. Her facial emotion only emanates sorrow. Having lost her father, her eyes were swollen red, and dried streaks of tears paved an invisible way down to her cheeks.
Both Ishtar and he were silenced by a single powerful word--- A word from a strong-willed maiden.
“Can you deny the fact that even though you were made a slave at the beginning, the Juhnas helped you?”
That is right… Kazo was Azure’s very first friend after he woke up from his deep sleep at the temple. Forcing herself to stand up again from her inner agony, Lilith carried on.
“Can you deny the fact that in times of uncertainty, some people stood up for what they think its right?”
Despite being labeled a dog of the Empire, Scarlet and Red still fought for their beliefs in different ways. Continuously, harboring no doubts, for almost a decade.
“Can you deny the fact that… despite the distrust in you, there was others who believed in you…?”
Lilith fell back to her knees and cried, uncontrollably even though she knew it was pathetic of her to be shedding tears again.
“Can you deny the fact that…”
Red helped her up, as Gunter and the other released captives including Scarlet joined in the debate for their lives.
“…We’ve come to save you…?”
Ishtar gazed at the speechless Azure and awaits his answer. After all, she has left the decision to him. If he says that the world will be spared, then no harm shall be done to it.
A confused feeling was churning within him. He does not know what to do. His mind is in a mess. Yes, despite all the wrongdoings and tragedies happening in this world, there were times of bliss and hope.
Azure closed his eyes once more to recollect everything he has gone through ever since he awoke from the Temple’s egg-liked structure---
Even under oppression, people carried on with their lives.
Even when they are forced to live their homes forever, they did so with hopes of building even better ones.
Even if there is distrust and hatred, they would be resolved someday.
Nobody is born a tyrant or a betrayer. Everyone is the same at the beginning.
All they need now is a good leader, and more time…
Unwittingly, he too shed a benevolent tear for the world.
“I guess…” Azure finally spoke to the goddess next to him…
“There is still hope.”
Lilith broke into her usual smile as she wiped her angry tears away. Really, she thought, Azure still has much to learn about the world.
A soft blue light surrounded Ishtar suddenly like a warm blanket. Bit by bit, she rose slowly to an even higher altitude as she allowed Azure back to the grounds to be reunited with his friends.
As Lilith dashed to the front to give him a bone-crushing hug, in the process causing both of them to fall, Gunter pointed to the entity in the sky.
“Seeds …” Ishtar then began her final speech to the entire world in a projected voice, “There has been an imbalance in this world ever since thousands of years ago...”
Every single citizen of Mesopia widened their eyes as they listened.
“Mesopia was filled with wars and bloodshed; people were tortured and tormented……”
The goddess lowered her head.
“But hope might still be present. As such, I have decided to give everyone one more chance; to rebuild your homes; to live normal lives again. Some things lost may not be retrieved again, but… keep your memories of them inside your hearts. ”
Lilith’s lips curled upwards slightly. Yes, memories of her father will still be within her.
“I shall descend upon these lands again if the imbalance is, one day, beyond any means of repair… Do not forget my words….”
The gathered dark clouds finally dissipated to reveal warm rays from the sun. From her feet, the goddess began to disintegrate into tiny orbs of light which were quite invisible under the daylight.
“Shamash, your job is done,” Ishtar spoke with a voice which sounded as if she was whispering into Azure’s ear so that nobody could hear, “You knew the way, don’t you?”

3 days later ---
It was barely three days ago when the world was about to be completely annihilated, but the aftermath is relieving. Reunited families, rebuilding homes, the smiles on the people’s face have never been more heartwarming.
Despite this, there are some who needed time to adapt to their new leash of life.
“My hands have been stained by the bloods of too many. I have shamed our race.”
Scarlet sunk his head low, hiding behind his guilt and sorrow. As he draws his breaths unsteadily, a series of violent coughs ensued.
Night wind caused the tree leaves to rustle as if to cover the callous truth, but Red remained silent. The siblings have finally reunited after eight long years, yet silence was all they have between each other at the end of the wait.
”Scarlet.”
“?”
Red walked a distance away before turning back again cracking her knucklebones and said airily.
“You have done enough to help us; there will be no penalty against your betrayal.”
”I know,” Scarlet replied despite his coughs, “but I have indeed killed our kin… bloods stained will be etched into my flesh forever.”
“Then, my brother is as good as dead.”
Red’s voice trembled as she speaks her words.
“Scarlet von Weiss did what the others could not. He gained the trust of Schwartz Geiger, and sneaked information out of the Empire. Burying his pain and secrets deep in his heart, he became a demon without a soul.”
“But… I deserve a punishm---”
”Hence, he shall be exiled from these lands and be conveyed a task of protecting those in need forever,”
Even until he dies…Red murmured.
Having been invited by Red to overhear the conversation, Iris stepped out from her hiding at last. Tears rimming in her eyes, she too knew that Scarlet’s life could not last long---Too much of his soul has been drawn away by the Apocalypse.
“…And exiled I shall be.”
He spoke slowly while Iris took his hands and walked away from the others. Although it may seem a cruel punishment to be given to a hero who stole military secrets from their enemies, it was actually a kind deed in disguise.
The Kurt will die in a few months’ time at most, that alone is enough as a way to redeem his soul.
At least, let him be with his beloved until the end.
“Iris, you sure you won’t regret this?”
Scarlet asked timidly while suppressing his cough as the two covered a hundredth step out of the woods hand in hand.
”We made a promise to each other, remember? You said you will come back alive to retrieve what I owed you as a present.”
“Wait, that’s not what I’m asking –-”
Iris ignored the disturbing sounds of the crickets and night dwellers as she threw a light peck onto Scarlet’s lips.
“That … is my answer.”
The fair maiden smiled, like a blossoming flower no longer hindered by worldly affairs.
