Chapter 7

Meeting Cho KyuHyun

“The game will start at exactly three in the afternoon, everybody, ready?” FeiLin asked as the team gathered behind the school. “Yes!” the team answered. “Okay, we’ll wait for Mr. Sol to get here.” FeiLin said.

After five minutes, the team went in the van and started traveling. They are heading on Miyama Baseball Field, the same place where their first game happened. After fifteen minutes of traveling, they arrived. Everybody went down the van and entered the field. They found the players of St. Rudolph School. They were scattered at the field practicing everything they have to.

“Man, they’re burning with power.” MeiRin said. “Guys, we should not underestimate them. Last year, they got the second spot from all the schools that played in the national tournament.” FeiLin said. “Really?” KiBum asked in amazement. “Yeah... they’re one good team.” FeiLin replied.

“Okay, everybody, go to your place and start warming up.” Mr. Sol said. “Yes, coach!” everybody shouted. “They called you coach.” FeiLin said. “It’s okay, as long as it doesn’t have my name.” Mr. Sol said. Everybody laughed as Mr. Sol blushed in embarrassment.

Everybody went at the center of the field and started warming up. They practiced pitching and batting. Some were running and others where practicing their catching. After ten minutes, the commentator announced the start.

---

“16-19 in favor of St. Rudolph School. For the sixth inning...” the first commentator announced.

“Sixth inning already... they really have to make a point here.” DongHae said. “They’ll manage to.” Kibum said.

“Kaika’s third batter Ren MeiRin.” the commentator announced. MeiRin went into the batting zone. She focused on the pitcher and the pitcher started to throw the ball. “Strike!” the umpire said. ***I have to make this one.*** she thought.

The pitcher threw another ball. This time, MeiRin hit it but it was a foul ball. The pitcher threw her last shot and MeiRin managed to hit it. She ran as fast as she can and the she was saved.

“Kaika’s fourth batter Park NeeSah.” the commentator said. NeeSah went into the batting zone and focused her eyes on the pitcher. That time, her mind was completely free from anything. The pitcher lifted her left foot. NeeSah wasn’t able to hit it. “Strike!” the umpire shouted.

“What?!” DongHae asked passing KiBum a look of disbelief. “Why are you looking at me like that?” Kibum asked. “You’re the unlucky part here!” DongHae blamed. “WHAT? I’m not doing anything.” Kibum defended.

The pitcher lifted her left leg again and threw the ball. NeeSah wasn’t able to hit it again.

“Oh my, what’s happening with her?” FeiLin asked. “There’s something bothering her.” Mr. Sol said. “Bothering? Hey, I think it’s about you, Kibum! I really feel it!” DongHae said. “Shut up or I’ll kick you out.” KiBum said and looked at NeeSah. “Hey! NeeSah! Play well!!! Don’t be such a coward!” Kibum shouted. Everyone was surprised on what Kibum shouted. “Did he just call NeeSah... a coward?” MeiRin asked.

“Tsk. If he only knows what I’m thinking about is him.” NeeSah told herself. She focused herself on the pitcher again. “Huh, I know you’re afraid of me.” the pitcher whispered. She then lifted her leg and threw the ball. NeeSah hit it and started running. “Gah! She hit it!” the pitcher said throwing her cap.

NeeSah ran to the first base then to the second and third and last, the home base. “It’s a HOMERUN!” the team shouted. NeeSah was still lying with her hand touching the home base. She was puffing when she stood up and everybody held her. “Wow, you really are the greatest, NeeSah!” MeiRin said.

“20-29 in favor of Kaika High, now the seventh and last inning.” the commentator said.

NeeSah went into the mount and started to pitch. Every ball was a strike so the Kaika High wins.

The team was now walking to go to their headquarters. KiBum and DongHae went straight to their classroom and there are no students any more. “Hey, KiBum, what are we going to do here?” DongHae asked. “Nothing.” KiBum answered.

“Hey, you two, we’re going home now.” NeeSah said standing behind the door. Kibum and DongHae walked towards NeeSah. They closed the door and walked out of the school.

“I wish I have your goodness at playing baseball, NeeSah.” DongHae said. “Why, you’re playing basketball, right? And you’re good at that.” NeeSah said. “But I wish I could play another sport, you know? Something new...” DongHae said. They walked for about ten minutes and after that, DongHae separated from them. Minutes later, NeeSah was in front of their house already. “I’m here... take care, KiBum.” NeeSah said and entered the house.

KiBum started walking again and reached their house which was a few blocks away from NeeSah’s.

===

Saturday morning, NeeSah was walking on the shopping district. She was the one who would buy foods and stuffs for their house.

“NeeSah!” an old woman called. This is where NeeSah always buy vegetables but the old woman sells fruits and candies too. “Mrs. Rei!” NeeSah called. She went inside the shop and talked to the old woman. “Yeah, mom told me to buy only steak and chicken wings. I’m sorry if I’m not buying any veggies or fruits today.” NeeSah said. “It’s okay with me. But please, take this with you.” the old woman said as she handed something to NeeSah. It was a picture of a guy with a handsome smile.*-^

“Who... is this?” NeeSah asked. “He’s one of my favorite buyers.” the old woman replied. “He always buys candies here. He told me he loves candies especially the ones I sell.” the old woman replied. “And... why are you giving this to me?” NeeSah asked. “If you happen to see him, please do tell him his friend will be leaving soon.” the old woman said. “Why, can’t you tell him that in person?” NeeSah asked curiously. “He’s never been here since last, last month.” the old woman said.

“Oh...” NeeSah said. She looked at the picture again. She then smiled and said “Well then, I’ll be going now, Mrs. Rei. I’ll just contact you if I happen to meet this guy.” NeeSah said and went out of the shop. Mrs. Rei’s smile turned into a sad one as she remembered how happy she was when she was with that boy.

Mrs. Rei was a one of the cancer patients who would never grow out of it again. She thought it would be better if she could say her farewells to the kids and people who bought anything from her shop. She just love that guy and NeeSah so much that she thought of them as her own children. Knowing that she would never see her son and daughter again.

NeeSah hid the picture on her wallet and walked again. She was at a shop, buying chicken wings when someone outside shouted. She went out and looked at it and beside her was the vendor. People were running away from the street. “Out of the way!” someone shouted. It was a boy running as fast as he can. Suddenly, he bumped into NeeSah. NeeSah’s things fell on the floor. The boy picked them up hurriedly then grabbed NeeSah’s hands and hurriedly ran away. Then, he found a place where they can hide. The two of them hid there and he covered NeeSah’s mouth to prevent her from speaking or anything.

A few moments passed and the three men running behind him passed without noticing them. The guy let another moment passed to make sure they were totally out of the place near them. He moved away his hand from NeeSah’s mouth and stood up cleaning his pants. “That was close.” he said as he takes a peek from behind the wall looking at the direction where the men ran making sure they won’t return again.

NeeSah was puffing and blanked that he forgot about everything that happened earlier. The man offered his hand and NeeSah took it. He helped her stand up and took the plastic bag from her. “I’ll carry this as a sign of my gratitude for helping me run away with those guys.” the man spoke. “Helping you... run away with those guys?” NeeSah asked curiously. “But I only caused trouble to you.” she added.

“Nope, at least, we were able to hide ourselves from them with you being silent.” he answered sticking out his tongue. **He looks like the guy from the picture. But... he was older than that guy. Besides, the guy in the picture is much cuter than him.** NeeSah thought and chuckled silently. “What’s wrong? Something on my face?” the guys asked. “Nope. There’s nothing.” she replied.

===

They were inside a coffee shop. “I’m Cho KyuHyun... and you are?” KyuHyun said. “I’m Park NeeSah.” she replied. “That’s a nice name.” he said. “Thanks.” she replied. “So... why are you running earlier?” she asked. “Uhm, I was running away from those monkeys because they wanted me to get back to the company, take charge of it so it means forgetting my studies and marry someone I don’t love.” he replied. “Marry someone... you don’t love?” NeeSah asked curiously.

“Yeah, my father wants me to marry someone whom I don’t love at all.” he said. “Uhmm, you said your name was KyuHyun, right?” NeeSah asked. “Yeah, why?” he asked. “Does it mean you’re the son of the owner of the best baseball shop here at Korea?” NeeSah asked. “Uh, yeah, he’s my father.” KyuHyun replied. “Why? Are you interested at baseball thingies?” he asked. “Uhm, I’m playing baseball.” she replied.

“Really? That’s cool! What team?” KyuHyun asked. “I study at Kaika High so... I’m playing for our school.” NeeSah replied “Oh... you know, I’m addicted to baseball! And I’m actually the manager of HanBei Middle High.” KyuHyun said proudly. “And if I’m not mistaken... you’re... YEAH! RIGHT! You’re the awesome batter of Kaika High! Why am I so dumb? I didn’t notice I was in front of the best batter ever!” KyuHyun said. Everyone looked at him. “You’re overdoing it. I’m not the best batter ever.” NeeSah said.

“Yes, you are! You defeated HanBei on the first game, right? Hahaha!” KyuHyun insisted. “Why is it that you look happy even though HanBei was defeated?” NeeSah asked. “Well, HanBei’s female baseball team is so boastful. I hate watching them. They’re moves pisses me. And you know, when I watched your game live that last time, you are so perfect when it comes to pitching!!! Aww, gah!!! I never thought I’d get the chance to talk to you.” KyuHyun said. **He’s nuts.** NeeSah thought.
