Chapter 1

She pulled her hat closer to her face, as she made her way towards the newspaper stand. It was close to dawn, and the streets were pretty much empty. Tossing a dollar coin to the man, she grabbed the latest copy of the morning tabloids and walked hastily back to the car.

“Let’s go.” She said to the driver.

Opening up the newspaper, a smile appeared wide across her face. It was exactly how she expected these reporters to write and fabricate.

“Uncle Wu will be furious over these reports again. It’s already the third consecutive day that they’re publishing on your extramarital affair with that rich man. I think it’s time to stop, Myolie.” He advised.

“I just got the hang of it. Bosco, drive me over to the Peak. I’m meeting someone there.” Myolie said nonchalantly, as she put away the newspaper.

Bosco did not speak a word more. He was fully aware of Myolie’s temper and mood. It would be difficult to dissuade her once she made up her mind, especially on matter which she was determined to drive her father mad. Myolie switched on the radio, and started humming along to the song being broadcast, while Bosco passed over the sandwiches and a bottle of water to Myolie.

“It’s your breakfast. You didn’t eat much for dinner last night, so it’s better to have a more sumptuous breakfast.” Bosco said.

“Thanks.” She accepted it and started eating.

Bosco was her manager, whom took care of her work commitments and projects as a model. Having worked with her for the past 4 years, he knew exactly her taste and choices of brands, thus she often had no problem working well with the various companies. In addition, Bosco was like Myolie’s nanny as well. Her entire timetable was being planned out by him, although Myolie hardly ever followed closely to it. Bosco made sure that her daily meals were taken, and she had sufficient rest. Because he never once complained or expressed displeasure, thus Myolie often took Bosco for granted since they had already become such good friends.

“I hate dieting.” She grumbled under her breath.

Bosco chuckled at her comment. Myolie was naturally slim, but she always put pressure on herself by going on diets and excessive exercise routines. He had to spend a tremendous effort in convincing her that she was already beautiful, and her figure was perfect before she would give up those monstrous plans. Soon, they arrived at the Peak, and Myolie alighted from the car.

“You can go off first.” She said.

“Alright, I’ll swing by around an hour later. You’ve three assignments to rush today.” Bosco replied, before driving off.

Myolie ensured that there were no other people following her, before she made her way towards a café situated at the other side of the Peak. She saw him standing there looking at the scenery. Walking up to him, she wrapped her arms around his waist, and placed her head gently on his back.

“I miss you.” She whispered softly.

The man turned around instinctively and embraced her tightly in his arms.

“Miss you too.” He said.

She looked into his eyes and asked, “When can we officially be together?”

This was the question which he hated to answer most. It had always been bugging him since the time they decided to get together.

“I can’t divorce my wife yet.” He finally revealed, instead of giving her the usual excuses.

“Why? I thought you said that you don’t love her anymore.” She frowned and pulled away from him.

“Yes, I don’t love her, but our marriage is not as simple as it seems, Myolie. I need some more time.” He persuaded.

“Wong Hei, I’ve been waiting for an entire year already. During this year, I devoted so much time and effort to hide our underground relationship because you said that this would hurt your reputation, and I did everything that you told me to do. Isn’t that enough? I don’t wish to only see you three times a week, or come to this secretive place at early morning to have our date.” She sounded frustrated.

“Myolie,” Wong Hei moved in and held onto her hands, “Just some more time will do. I truly love you, and only you.”

Myolie hesitated for some time, before hugging him, “I’m sorry for losing my temper.”

He smiled, “I’m sorry too.”

Slowly, he opened his eyes, and stared at the lady sleeping soundly beside him. It took a while before he recalled last night’s rendezvous with this lady at a pub, and how both of them ended up in this hotel room. Picking up his clothes strewn all over the floor, he quickly dressed and washed up since he was going to be late for work.

“You were great last night.” He whispered softly into her ear, and kissed the sleeping lady on her cheek.

Before he went away, he left a few hundred dollars behind as payment for the room. He loved his present status quo – no responsibilities, just pure fun. However, only his old-fashioned father would always arrange some lame blind dates with ladies from respectable families. Nevertheless, he would simply display his playboy personality, which always worked and turned these women away.

“Raymond, Dad wishes to speak to you.” Bowie said when Raymond entered the office.

Raymond knocked on the door before entering, and found his father to be talking to someone else as well.

“Raymond, this is Uncle Wu. His company is the main distributor for our perfume and cosmetics products.” Lam Yu introduced.

Raymond greeted politely, and took a seat as well. This must another set-up, he thought as he watched both men reminiscing about the past. Soon, the topic drifted to Bowie and him.

“Raymond’s already so grown-up, yet he’s still so playful, making me worry constantly about him.” Lam Yu complained.

Raymond just sat there and maintained his smile. It was not the right time to rebuke against his father’s words.

“I’m having the same problem with my daughter too. She doesn’t know her limits, and always get into trouble.” Wu Dan shook his head and sighed.

“Haha, then my son and your daughter must be able to get along well with each other. Maybe they should meet and get to know each other.” Lam Yu suggested enthusiastically.

I knew it, Raymond said silently in his heart. That was supposed to the main reason for his presence in the office; not listen to some past, old stories of these two men.

“Yes! It’ll be great if they become friends.” Wu Dan agreed.

Wu Dan turned over to Raymond and asked, “Raymond, are you interested in meeting my daughter?”

“It’ll be my pleasure, Uncle Wu.” Raymond smiled.

After getting his agreement, both men started to discuss about this date between both of their children, while Raymond quickly excused himself and left the office.

“I can’t believe Dad is asking me to date that woman whom is the third party of Aunt Christine’s marriage. Is he getting senile or something?” He mumbled along the way back to his own office.

Back at Lam Yu’s office, both men ensured that Raymond had left before returning to their original conversation.

“I’m really sorry for all the trouble that my daughter’s creating to your sister’s marriage, Brother Yu.” Wu Dan apologized profusely over the tabloid reports.

“I understand your predicament. After all, we’re still one family. Your wife, Melissa, is Christine’s younger sister. We know that you’re in a tight spot too. Let’s just hope that these two youngsters will hit off well, and then these present problems will be solved.” Lam Yu said with a heavy sigh.

“Good take. Do another pose, Myolie.” The photographer said, as he snapped continually.

Bosco watched on from the side. Earlier on, he had caught sight of Wong Hei leaving in his Mercedes, and immediately knew that Myolie had met him at the Peak when she lied that she was going to meet an ordinary friend. However, Bosco did not expose her lie. He was afraid that this may make her turn more extreme in her actions.

“Hey Bosco.” Someone called his name from behind.

He turned around, and smiled, “Hey Sharon, Myolie’s still busy. A couple of minutes more before we can have lunch.”

“No problem at all.” She said, as she joined him, “Pretty, isn’t she?”

He nodded his head. She was indeed an angel in his eyes.

“You like her, don’t you?” Sharon teased.

Bosco quickly scanned around, and hushed Sharon to be quiet, “Don’t be so loud. There may be reporters around.”

“Seriously, if you like her, just tell her straight in her face. She’s dumb when it comes to romance. She won’t know that you like her unless you say so.” Sharon said.

“She already has someone else in mind, doesn’t she?” Bosco muttered with a tinge of sadness in his voice.

“You mean that married man? That was just to piss her father off.” Sharon shrugged.

“No, she likes him, or at least, I think she has some feelings for him. I…I can sense that. Even though I disagree with her present relationship, what matters most is that she’s happy with it.” Bosco replied.

“Damn it.” Sharon cursed.

“What?” Bosco looked over at her.

“She’s missing such a good catch.” Sharon giggled.

Bosco blushed at Sharon’s comment, and quickly changed topic, “Why does Myolie always want to go against her father? I mean, I know that they aren’t on good terms, but why is that so?”

“Well, it’s because her…” Sharon was about to say when she suddenly stopped, “I can’t tell you. She’ll kill me if I ever told a third party.”

“Sharon Chan!” Myolie had finished her shooting and ran up to her best friend.

Both of them immediately ended their conversation, and turned their attention towards Myolie.

“You’re acting weird.” Myolie cast a suspicious glance at Bosco.

“I’m not.” Bosco rebutted.

“Yes, you are.” She insisted.

“Alright, yes then.” He gave in.

“I win.” She flashed a victory sign at Bosco proudly.

“Okay, stop being so childish, Myolie Wu.” Sharon pretended to hit Myolie’s head with her fist, as the trio walked off to have lunch.

“This is bad, Raymond Lam. They’re having an argument again.” Bowie burst into his office.

“Well, go and make sure that Dad doesn’t know about this. I’ll go over and settle both of them.” Raymond got up from his seat.

When he arrived at Wong Hei’s office, he saw a whole group of employees surrounding outside.

“Hello people, get back to work!” Raymond commanded.

Everyone scrambled back to their working positions, while Raymond knocked on the office door before going in.

“I’m sick of this!” She screamed.

A magazine flew out of her hand, and went right towards the direction of Raymond, whom quickly shielded his face with both hands.

“For God’s sake, please stop fighting!” Raymond shouted.

The quarrel did stop momentarily, before Wong Hei’s cell phone rang on the desk. Before he could answer the call, Christine had already snatched the phone over, and looked at the Caller ID.

“Do you see this, Raymond? Your uncle’s mistress is calling him now. I must scold the hell out of this bitch.” Christine hit the ‘answer’ button.

Wong Hei had wanted to rush up to Christine to get back the phone, especially when he knew that the caller was Myolie. However, Raymond stood in between and restrained him from going near Christine. After all, Christine was his deceased mother’s sister, whom doted on him like a mother since young, thus he bore a grudge against Wong Hei for betraying her feelings and their marriage.

“Get away from my husband, you slut! I’ll make sure you suffer hell if you don’t do so!” She screamed hysterically over the phone.

“Oh yeah? I’m looking forward to it, Mrs. Wong. If you don’t mind, can you get your husband to listen to the call?” Myolie said calmly.

“Don’t you understand my words?! I said get away from my husband!” Christine threw the cell phone on the ground in anger.

Wong Hei pushed away Raymond, and ran up to look at the condition of his cell phone.

“We’re getting a divorce.” Wong Hei said coldly as he flung the phone back to the ground, before he left the office.

Christine dropped to the ground in tears. Raymond clenched his fists, wanting so much to beat Wong Hei up, but his rational mind forbade him from doing so. He walked up to Christine and comforted her. Looking over at Wong Hei’s spoilt phone, the display screen still showed the name on the Caller ID – Myolie Wu.

It was the third slap across the same cheek on her face today. It definitely felt painful, but she never showed it out at all. She merely stood there emotionless, as she listened on to her father’s lectures and naggings again. At that moment, another lady stepped in and offered to talk to Myolie alone instead. It was her step-mother, Melissa.

“I understand the reason behind your actions. But by taking revenge at the expense of ruining someone else’s happiness, do you think it’s worth it?” Melissa asked.

“Well, you ruined my mother’s happiness, didn’t you? I was merely learning from what you did last time.” Myolie glared back at Melissa.

“I…” Melissa was caught dumbfounded.

“This is retribution, but too bad your sister’s the one being picked on.” Myolie said coldly.

“What can I do, Myolie? What can I do to make you stop?” Melissa sounded desperate.

“Return me my mother…” Myolie stopped, shook her head and laughed.

“No, you can’t. She’s already dead.” She continued bitterly.
