“Did you see the blood stains on the man’s white polo tee? That was a huge amount of blood loss, I guess.” She overheard two passers-by whispered as they hurried past her.
Raymond was in a white polo t-shirt earlier on. She remembered vividly because it was a gift from her when they were still dating. No, it can’t be, she told herself mentally as she hurried towards the crowd, nervous and frightened. Pushing her way through, Myolie kept on tip-toeing to get a view of the situation a few meters in front of her.
“Ray…” She muttered under her breath when she caught sight of him lying on his side, with his back facing her instead. Rushing up to him, she gently pulled him over, fearing for the worst, before he began to grimace in pain.
“Wake up! Are you okay?! Raymond Lam?!” Myolie called out incoherently in a hysterical voice while she shook his body gently, fearing that he had been badly hurt.
“Hey mate! Are you alright?” A man behind both of them spoke out.
Raymond opened his eyes slowly, and nodded his head, before mumbling softly to the man, “Thanks.”
“Be careful next time. You’re lucky that I managed to pull you over to the roadside safely before the car hit you.” The man continued, before walking off.
Myolie felt herself heaving a huge sigh of relief, as she hastily wiped away the tears from her face. As the crowd started to disperse, Raymond got up from the road as both of them moved onto the pavement first. Raymond looked on at Myolie apologetically, before pulling her into his arms tightly.
It seemed like a long time before Raymond broke the silence, “I was so scared…so afraid that I won’t see you again…I still have so many things to tell you…”
A tear trickled down her cheek uncontrollably as her arms held onto his body tightly as well. “Me too…I…I’ve many things to say as well…” Myolie whispered.
“Will you please forgive me, Myo?” Raymond asked in a slightly pleading tone.
Myolie broke away from his embrace upon hearing his question. Her mind was still in a state of confusion, thus she was unsure about how to respond. She then noticed that Raymond’s elbow had been scraped badly from the fall earlier on.
“You elbow’s hurt.” Myolie said, pointing to the bloody mess on his sleeve.
Raymond looked down. It seemed as if he did not notice his wound until Myolie pointed out to him.
Seeing no response from Raymond, Myolie continued, “I think we can get some first-aid stuff over there.” With that, Raymond followed after her in silence.

Bosco lay on his bed and stared blankly at the ceiling. After Myolie had left, he could not help but think about her meeting with Raymond. He wondered if he had done the right deed. The more he thought about it, the insecurity within him got more intense. Before he actually suggested to Myolie about reconciling her relationship with Raymond, he had already prepared the worst case scenario that would happen – she would leave his side, and return to Raymond. Shaking his head rapidly, Bosco reassured himself that Myolie would never do that to him. No matter what was going to happen, he was not planning to give up so easily yet.
“I should’ve more confidence in myself.” Bosco told himself, as he sat up on his bed. Grabbing his jacket, he proceeded to the ground level of the apartment building, and decided to wait for Myolie to return.

“Ouch!” Raymond mumbled, as he withdrew his album away from her touch instinctively.
“Stay still!” Myolie growled in annoyance at him, “Painful, huh? That should teach you a lesson for not looking out for cars.”
After stopping the bleeding of the wound, Myolie proceeded to apply some antiseptic wipes as gently as possible.
“I was trying to chase after you. Who cares about the cars at that point of time?” Raymond mumbled under his breath, but Myolie had heard it all, and deliberately pressed hard on his wound.
“Ouch, hey! Pain, pain, pain…” Raymond bit onto his lower lip, with a frown planted on his face.
Myolie secretly smirked in delight at being able to ‘torture’ Raymond so easily in her hands now, “Pain? So you do feel pain, after all. I thought you only know how to inflict pain on other people.”
Sensing the hostility in her tone, Raymond kept silent at her comment. He did not wish to agitate her further. Gazing fondly at the conscientious Myolie whom was now bandaging his elbow, Raymond started to feel the immense regret building up in his heart. He felt so foolish for making such a rash decision in the past, because now he had realized the importance of Myolie in his life. However, everything seemed to be too late already. At that moment, Myolie had finished bandaging his elbow wound, and looked up to inform Raymond. She caught his intense gaze, and found it difficult to take her eyes away from him as well. Gripping onto the side of the bench tightly, Myolie took much effort to look away from Raymond, whom attempted to conceal his disappointment at her reaction.
“Thank you.” Raymond mumbled, hoping to ease the awkwardness between both of them.
“It’s getting late. I better go.” Myolie stood up from the bench, but Raymond quickly caught hold of her hand, before saying, “We…”
However, Myolie interrupted him before he could complete his sentence, “Bosco must be waiting for me now. I really need to go.” Upon hearing her words, it brought him back to reality, as he could only release his grip on her hand.
“Are…are we still friends?” He asked, feeling like it was a final, desperate attempt.
Myolie pondered on for a long while, before nodding her head, “Yeah, I guess we’ll always be.”

Looking at his watch for the umpteenth time, Bosco started to wonder why Myolie was so late. As each minute ticked by, his high hopes started to diminish bit by bit.
“Well, how can I be compared to Raymond?” Bosco sighed aloud, before a familiar voice called out his name from afar, “Bosco Wong!”
He was pleasantly surprised to find Myolie walking towards him, carrying a plastic bag in one of her hands. Grinning widely, he hurried over to help her with the plastic bag.
“What’s wrong with you?” Myolie smiled at him, “You looked so depressed when I saw you standing over there, and you seemed to be mumbling to yourself. And now, you’re grinning so happily. Are you possessed or something?”
“Hmm, well…that’s because I miss you.” Bosco chuckled, before he peeped into the plastic bag to check out its contents.
Myolie hesitated for a while before speaking, “Raymond and I have patched up already.” Looking over at Bosco’s reaction, she quickly added, “We decided to be friends again, and this is entirely your effort, so I bought your favorite dessert as a reward for you.”
“Really?” The grin on Bosco’s face appeared even wider now.
She giggled at him, “Yeah, it took me at least an hour in queuing up for it. You better finish everything, or I’ll strangle you.”

Raymond was busy with something when he heard a knock on his bedroom’s door. He wondered who the person was since it was already so late in the night.
“Dad?” Raymond was surprised at the sight of his father, “What’s the matter? It’s already so late now.”
Lam Yu smiled at his son as he entered into the room and sat on the edge of the bed, “Well, then why aren’t you sleeping yet? I saw the light of your bedroom still switched on, and thought that I should check on you. It’s a long time since we last chatted.”
“Oh, I couldn’t sleep, so I found something to keep myself occupied.” Raymond replied.
“Still trying to piece the paper back properly together?” His father asked.
Raymond nodded, “There are some small pieces missing, and some parts aren’t really clear, so I’m still trying to put it back to its original look.”
“How’s your relationship with the girl then?” Lam Yu probed.
He shook his head this time and replied with a tinge of sadness in his voice, “I don’t know. I'm still confused on what to do exactly.”
“A relationship isn’t like a piece of paper, Ray. Once broken, it may be difficult to restore it back. The scar may heal overtime, but it will always remain there forever. If you really like her, then don’t place any expectations or pressure on her. Give her some time and space,” Lam Yu said, before patting on his son’s back, “After all, it’s your fault that the relationship turned out like this, so you should take up the responsibility to mend it.”
“But…she…she has someone else now…” Raymond muttered hesitantly, "Will I still have a chance?"
“All’s fair in love and war,” Lam Yu chuckled, “As long as she isn’t married, she still has the power to choose. Of course, I’m not saying that you should use underhand means to break them apart. Be open about wooing her back. If she likes you, then it's great, but if she doesn't, it's still alright, because at least you did fight for it once, am I right? Okay, I think we shall stop here tonight. Think it over carefully, Ray.” With that, Lam Yu left his bedroom, leaving Raymond thinking hard over his father’s words.

“Bosco?” She popped her head into his bedroom, “Are you asleep yet?”
Bosco, whom was lying on his bed, opened his eyes and turned over upon hearing Myolie’s voice.
“What’s up?” He asked, getting up and beckoning for her to come in.
“Nothing in particular. I just wanted to check if you’re asleep.” Myolie said, as she sat on the edge of his bed.
“Is it something that you can’t figure out?” Bosco moved to sit beside her.
“Hmm…somewhat.” She answered, looking down at the floor.
Bosco proceeded to hold onto her hand, and confessed, “Do you know that I really don’t wish to let go of your hand? I want to hold onto it forever.”
Myolie looked over at him. The words, which she had earlier planned to tell him, were unable to come out from her mouth. Instead, she replied softly, “Then don’t ever let go.”
“I don’t think I’ve a choice.” Bosco said.
“Huh?” She stared at him in confusion.
“Well, unless you’re willing to follow with me to the States two days later, if not, I’ll have to wait till ten days later before I can hold onto your hand again.” He smiled at her.
“Oh, I forgot.” She chuckled softly.
“I guess ten days should be sufficient for both of us,” Bosco was suddenly serious again, “To think over everything carefully.”
Myolie remained silent. She did not know what to say, because it would sound pretty redundant if she said anything at all. Bosco was willing to return to square one again, and allowed her to make a choice once more, even if it meant he might be the one being hurt in the end.

[1 Week Later...]
“Is it okay? Do you need help, Ray?” Myolie asked aloud, as she stared intently at the spoilt pipe in the bathroom.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. I just need a little more time.” Raymond answered, having his body being soaked wet entirely.
After another several minutes, Raymond finally declared that he had managed to repair the pipe, and requested Myolie to check if it was working fine.
“Yeah, it’s alright!” She exclaimed in delight, as Raymond wiped his hair dry with a towel.
“I guess so too.” He laughed.
“I’ll get some new clothes for you to change. You should be able to wear Bosco’s ones,” Myolie said as she went into Bosco’s room, “I’m sorry for bothering you, but you’re the only person to pop up in my mind when the pipe suddenly burst for no reason.”
“No worries; I’m glad to be of help.” Raymond smiled, before accepting the clothes from her.
After he changed into the clean clothes, he wondered where Myolie went to, before finding her in the kitchen.
“I’m preparing dinner,” Myolie told him, before asking, “Instant noodles for you?”
Raymond looked around her kitchen, “Are you having that for dinner everyday?”
She shrugged her shoulders, “Well, I can’t cook for nuts, and Bosco isn’t here. Or do you prefer to dine out?”
Raymond smiled and shook his head, “I was wondering if I can have the honor to be the chef for tonight.”
Myolie scrutinized at him in suspicion, “Are you telling me that you can cook? But I thought you can’t.”
“Okay, give me around an hour, and dinner will be ready. Meanwhile, the kitchen is out of bounds, while I go over to the supermarket and buy some food first.” Raymond said confidently.
As promised, Raymond whipped out a sumptuous dinner with three dishes and a soup. Myolie could not believe her eyes, and proceeded to tuck in as she was already starving badly.
“Gosh, this is good! How do you know that I love prawns? Bosco can’t eat prawns because of his allergy, so it’s a long time since I had prawns.” Myolie exclaimed in awe, as she took another piece from the plate, “Your culinary skills are better than I expected.”
Raymond beamed with pride, “Of course, it wasn’t easy for me to pick up cooking initially, but I wanted to……” And then, he stopped talking abruptly.
“What?” Myolie asked when she heard the sudden pause, as she continued to taste other dishes.
“I wanted to impress someone.” He finally continued his sentence.
“Oh.” She replied, realizing that she was that ‘someone’.
“So do you like tonight’s dinner?” Raymond changed the topic after sensing the awkward atmosphere.
She nodded her head rapidly, “You can come over and cook for me again tomorrow night.”
“I’m not your servant.” Raymond rejected playfully.
Myolie scowled at him, “Fine then!”
He giggled, “I’m just kidding. Actually, you won’t have many chances to see me again after today. I’m going somewhere far away.”
“Where are you going?” Myolie looked at him with a serious face.
“To be a monk.” Raymond answered, trying his best to look stern.
Myolie used her chopsticks to grip onto one of Raymond’s finger tightly, “It’s so not funny, Raymond Lam.”
“Ouch…no, no, I’m serious…It is part of our contract, isn’t it?” Raymond yelped in pain.
She removed her chopsticks from his finger and tried to think of excuses to stop him from doing so, “But…but I thought it was just a game. You said that it was only a game.”
“Actually…” Raymond gazed intently at her for a few minutes, before breaking into laughter, “I’m seriously just kidding with you.” With that, he quickly scooted away from her as far as possible before she had the chance to kick him in his butt.
“You idiot!” She screamed at him, as he continued to tease her, suggesting that she could join him and be a nun as well.

“Do you need my help in moving them back to your room?” Bosco asked as they got out of his car, and he removed her luggage from the boot.
Myolie shook her head, “I can manage by myself.”
“Alright then.” Bosco said, before silence crept in.
“Why the sudden decision to move back?” He asked, even though he much knew the reason himself since this was the first thing she told him after he returned from the trip.
Myolie hesitated for a while. She was thinking of the best answer to reply Bosco.
“I miss home.” She finally said.
Bosco nodded his head, “Okay, get some rest. Send my regards to Uncle Wu and Melissa.”
“Bosco…” Myolie called out.
He turned around and asked, “What?”
She looked at him for several moments, before finally saying, “Drive carefully on the way back.”

This was the first time he dreaded entering his apartment. After her departure, it seemed so empty and unfamiliar to him. Lying on the sofa, Bosco began to recall Myolie’s expression when they were outside her home earlier on. He knew that she had something to tell him. Somehow, he had the feeling that he had already lost. Closing his eyes, a tear slowly flowed out from the corner of his eye.
What should he do now?
