Chapter 4

‘THUMP!’

Raymond began to stir awake, as he felt a throbbing pain welling up on the back of his head. Gradually, the unfamiliar surroundings began to sink into his mind, as he realized that his drunken stupor during the previous night had landed him in this place. Getting up from the floor, he saw Myolie glaring in confusion at him whilst hiding herself behind the blanket. Just then, Raymond started to recall about the scream and kick which caused him to fall from the bed.

“Why did you kick me just now? I was just having a wonderful dream…” Raymond mumbled as he climbed back onto the bed.

“Did we…?” She questioned with a frown on her face, as she wiggled to a far corner of the bed away from Raymond.

Raymond looked on sleepily at her, “Well, does it matter? It’s a good start to our relationship anyway,” and with that, he returned to his sleep.

At that moment, something hard hit on the side of his face, and he groaned in pain. Opening his eyes, Raymond realized that it was his shoe, and before he knew it, his other shoe came flying in his direction, and hit on the exact, same spot of his face.

“Ugh, ouch! Stop it! What are you doing?” Raymond started to shield himself with the pillow, and demanded furiously.

“Does it matter? It’s a good start to our relationship anyway!” With that, Myolie began to grab anything which she could lay her hands on and threw them in the direction of Raymond.

“No, I didn’t mean that…” Raymond quickly used the pillow to protect himself from her ‘attacks’, “Oh, come on, and don’t tell me this is your first time…” Raymond muttered.

Myolie stopped immediately, and her cheeks blushed to a rosy pink color upon hearing Raymond’s question. Raymond took a peek from behind the pillow, and saw Myolie’s embarrassed expression on her face.

“It’s…really your first…?” Raymond whispered timidly, while sneakily picking up his shirt, “You don’t have to worry. I still got my pants on.” He giggled softly, before quickly retreating into the bathroom with his belongings.

Raymond washed and dressed up himself. Looking at the reflection in his mirror, he could not help but flash a triumphant smile to himself. He recalled Myolie’s expression earlier on, and felt that she was still considered a novice in relationships. After thinking for a while, Raymond was pretty definite that both of them merely slept together after being so drunk the previous night. Coming out from the bathroom, Raymond saw Myolie putting on her make-up at the dressing table. She had also dressed up already, and deliberately ignored the presence of Raymond. His last sentence before he went into the bathroom had made sense; however she still did not fancy the idea of being together with him, even for a single second.

“Forget everything that happened last night. I believe you won’t go around spreading this, am I right?” Myolie stood up and smiled at Raymond.

Raymond could sense her ‘threat’ – she wanted him to shut his mouth about both of them. He did not respond, but merely smiled in return.

“I’ll take that as a ‘yes’ then.” She said, before leaving the room, with Raymond trailing behind her.

Once they entered the elevator, Myolie warned him, “Keep a distance away from me. We’ll leave the hotel separately.”

“I’ll be glad to send you to your destination.” Raymond offered, although he knew Myolie was definitely rejecting him.

“My words are final,” She turned to glare at him, before pulling her hat down towards her face, “Damn, I’m staying away from all kinds of alcohol from now onwards.”

Raymond tried to stifle his chuckles when he heard that. If it had not been for her being the third party in Christine’s marriage, he would have found it interesting and challenging to go after this woman. However, he was fretting about keeping in contact with Myolie. How should he keep her away from Wong Hei? Soon, the elevator arrived at the first level, and both of them exited.

“3 feet behind me.” She hissed at him.

Raymond rolled his eyes, and followed her instructions, before he noticed some suspicious-looking people loitering outside the hotel. Finally, he spotted a hidden camera in one of the people’s bag. This is my chance, he thought in delight, and sneaked behind Myolie, whom was busy concealing her identity and did not notice Raymond walking right behind her. Within a few meters outside the hotel, Myolie suddenly found herself to be surrounded by a few reporters, as the photographers stood aside and began clicking their cameras furiously. It seemed that someone had tipped these reporters off. Just as she was panicking over cooking up an excuse, Raymond stepped in and put his arm around her waist.

“So it’s true that both of you are currently dating, and spent the night in this hotel?” One reporter questioned, when he noticed the intimate action which Raymond did.

“Of course…” Myolie was about to say when Raymond interrupted, “Yes, we’re dating. We got to know each other through a blind date.”

She turned around and stared at Raymond in shock, while he began posing and flashing his charming smile at the photographers.

“No, we’re…” Myolie wanted to clarify, but again, Raymond was a step faster than her, “About the reports that my fiancée is dating my uncle, I’ll wish to clarify that those reports are absolutely untrue. It’s correct that Myolie gets along well with my uncle, but they’re just of an uncle-niece relationship, so I hope that those reports will not surface again. They’ve caused pretty much disturbance to both of us, and of course, both my uncle and aunt.”

“Oh, so how about a picture together?” The same reporter requested, and Raymond could sense in his tone that the reporter still held some suspicions over their ‘relationship’.

“Sure.” Raymond smiled and turned to face the speechless Myolie, pulling her gently towards him before planting his lips deep into hers. This would eliminate all doubts now.

‘SNAP!’

“Myolie?” Bosco waved his hand in front of her.

“Huh?” She looked up and saw that Bosco was looking worried.

“You didn’t call me last night. I was worried.” He said.

“Oh, I forgot. Sorry.” She mumbled before dazing away again.

The hotel scene in the morning still remained deeply etched in her mind. Everything happened so quick and sudden – first, it was spending the night with him, and then, he had to make up a story that both of them were an item.

“I’m sorry too.” Bosco looked down guiltily.

Myolie snapped out of her thoughts, as Bosco’s apology reminded her of the blind date.

“It’s all your fault.” She stood up and left in frustration.

Bosco quickly gave chase and tried to explain, “I’m sorry, Myolie. I didn’t mean to. I agreed to help Uncle Wu because I wanted to help you.”

“Your action obviously didn’t help me a single bit.” She snapped back at him.

“Knowing more friends is a good thing. Well, at least it’s better than being together with that married man. I heard that Mr. Lam is a good and nice man.” Bosco said.

“Yeah, he’s real good. I feel like kicking his ass now.” Myolie replied sarcastically.

“Why? What happened during the blind date? You don’t get along with him?” Bosco questioned with a frown.

“Childish, immature and so full of himself! Ugh, we even sle…” Myolie clenched her fists in anger, before stopping herself in time.

“We even what?” Bosco asked.

Myolie hesitated for a while, before muttering, “Nothing. I’m taking a day off today. See you again, Bosco.” With that, she hailed a taxi and headed back home.

“Something must have happened.” Bosco mumbled to himself, as he watched the taxi drove off.

A few days had passed with nothing much happening in particular, and Raymond did not contact her since they split up at the hotel. Myolie was extremely glad for that. She had originally thought that she and Raymond were going to make headlines the following day, but it turned out otherwise. She managed to figure out that the most probable person to tip off those reporters was Raymond himself.

“How was the blind date a few days ago?” Her father asked during breakfast.

“We don’t get along, and please stop setting me up for such stuff in future.” Myolie said.

“Are you serious? I read from the newspapers that both of you are currently dating.” Wu Dan replied.

“What?!” Myolie almost choked on her coffee, before snatching the newspaper over.

‘Model’s New Love – Ex-lover’s Nephew: The Authentic Successor to Jasko’ [Jasko is the brand of the cosmetic products in Raymond’s company]

“It’s good that both of you are dating, but next time, please refrain from doing such intimate scenes in the public.” Wu Dam commented, referring to the huge ‘kissing’ picture splashed on the front page.

“Oh my god, he’s seriously driving me mad.” Myolie mumbled under her breath in fury.

“Do you see that? This woman doesn’t truly love you. Hei, turn back now before it’s too late. I’m willing to forget everything in the past, and start all over again.” Christine pointed to the report on the tabloids.

Wong Hei stared in anger and confusion. If the report was merely words, he would not have believed in it, but there was such a huge piece of evidence right before his eyes. How could it be? Myolie would never betray him.

“Let’s start all over again, shall we?” Christine pleaded.

“Go away!” He pushed his wife away, before hurrying downstairs to find Raymond.

Before Raymond knew it, Wong Hei had sent his fist down on Raymond’s cheek hard. Falling down to the floor from the impact, Raymond coughed slightly, and spat out the blood from the corner of his lips.

“Stay away from Myolie! She’s mine!” He screamed angrily at Raymond.

Bowie and Lam Yu had rushed over, and refrained the furious man from attacking Raymond further.

“That sentence should be mine,” Raymond glared at Wong Hei, “Stay away from my fiancée.”

“Myolie will never be going out with you. We’ll get married once I’m divorced with Christine.” Wong Hei stormed out of the house.

“Are you alright, son?” Lam Yu went forward and checked on Raymond’s injury.

“I’m fine, Dad,” Raymond said, “Don’t worry, Aunt Christine’s marriage can be salvaged.”

Lam Yu sighed, “I know, but I’m worried about the girl too. If I’m not wrong, these reports must be done against her will.”

“Dad, I’ve decided already. She’ll be my girlfriend.” Raymond reassured with a smile, as a plan began to formulate in his mind.

“Tell me it’s not true. You’re not with that guy.” Wong Hei pestered Myolie continually.

“Could you please stop it? I’m getting really tired from answering these questions.” Myolie turned and snapped at him.

“No, I want a definite answer now!” He shouted.

Just then, Wong Hei’s cell phone rang and he picked it up. His expression turned grave and solemn. Myolie noticed it, and wondered what had happened.

“Christine’s in hospital.” He told Myolie after hanging up.

“I’m currently at the hospital, Bosco…No, I’m fine. I’m just here to see a friend.” Myolie spoke over the cell phone.

“The boss and companies have been calling me all day, asking me about the reports on the papers today.” Bosco mentioned.

“I’ll call you again later.” With that, she hung up and switched off her cell phone.

At that moment, she saw Raymond stepping out from the elevator. He took a look at her before rushing over to the nurse and asked about Christine’s ward number. It was only then that Myolie realized that Raymond was related to Wong Hei’s wife. Apparently, she had accidentally taken an over-dosage of sleeping pills, but now, she was fine although the doctor had advised that her emotional condition was pretty bad. Myolie had chosen to wait outside instead, while Wong Hei checked on his wife.

“Hey.” Raymond tapped on her shoulder, sitting down beside her.

She looked up and scowled in disgust at him. She did not hate him yet, but the extreme dislike for his personality was making her boil.

“Let’s have a deal.” He proposed.

Myolie stared suspiciously at him. What trick was up his sleeve this time?

“You don’t have to worry. It’ll definitely be a fair deal between both of us.” Raymond assured when he saw her doubt.

“Well, it won’t hurt to hear what more dumb ideas you have.” She answered with sarcasm.

Raymond grinned, “3 months. That’s all you will take to fall in love with me.”

“Over my dead body.” Myolie shot back disapprovingly.

“I believe you haven’t really loved someone before, am I right? That kiss…I mean outside the hotel, that was your first kiss, isn’t it?” Raymond said.

Myolie glared at him. Why was he always able to look through her so easily?

“It’s merely a kiss. Nothing much.” She tried to shrug it off casually.

“Hmm then does it mean that you’re afraid of falling in love with me?” He tried to provoke her.

“No. Well, how does the deal work out to be?” She was falling straight into his trap.

“Let’s head over to my office. I’ve the contract prepared already.” He said.

“What contract?” She asked, following behind him.

“A love contract.” He answered, hiding his triumphant smile from her.
