“Alright, Hilary, take down all my phone calls and messages when I’m in the meeting later. Meanwhile, please help me to charge my cell phone. The battery’s flat.” Raymond said, before settling down for work.
“I’ll get it done now, Mr. Lam,” Hilary replied, before adding on, “Oh yes, someone contacted you before you came into the office, Mr. Lam. She left her name as Myolie Wu. She asked for you to call her back.”
Raymond nodded his head to acknowledge that he received her message, and Hilary left the office. Tapping on his desk for a few seconds, Raymond finally picked up the telephone and dialed Myolie’s number. It took five rings before the call was picked up.
“Hello?” Raymond recognized it as Myolie’s voice.
“You broke a rule in our contract.” Raymond said.
“What did I do wrong?” She demanded, before realizing, “You…you mean missing our breakfast meeting this morning?”
“Ha, how should I punish you? Hmm…” Raymond could not help but smile at the thought of it.
“I…well, no matter what, I still think I owe you an apology. Sorry for missing our appointment this morning.” Myolie said in a serious tone.
Raymond was caught dumbstruck at her apology, since he expected her to argue with him instead. He had not thought that she would give in so easily.
“Are you there, Raymond?” Myolie asked when he did not respond, “Don’t tell me you’re still angry? I’ve already apologized.”
“I got a meeting now. Call you again later.” With that, he quickly hung up.
Raymond was puzzled by his reaction, “Is there something wrong with her? Or is it me?” He scratched his head, as he got up and made his way to the conference room.

Bosco stood aside, as Myolie made her phone call. It was pretty evident that she was feeling guilty over missing the breakfast appointment with Raymond.
“He’s still in the meeting?” She asked.
“Yes, Miss. I’ll inform Mr. Lam that you called when the meeting ends.” Hilary said.
“Alright, thanks.” Myolie answered before hanging up.
She signaled for Bosco to come over, “Let’s have lunch together.”
“Alright, I’ll call Sharon along.” Bosco suggested.
Myolie nodded her head, before drifting off to her own world. Did Raymond sound angry in the morning when she called him? What should she do to compensate for her mistake? After Bosco had called Sharon, he looked over at Myolie.
“What are you thinking about?” Bosco asked out of curiosity.
“Oh,” Myolie snapped out from her thoughts, “Hmm, Raymond.” She smiled brightly at his name.
Bosco also gave a weak smile, “It seems like both of you are getting along pretty well. That’s good to see.”
“How about you? When are you going to get yourself a girlfriend? Do you need some recommendations from me?” Myolie chuckled mischievously.
Bosco blushed a little, and started to stutter, “I…I’ve…a girlfriend.”
Myolie’s eyes opened wide in shock, “Gosh, are you serious? Who’s she? Do I know her? Tell me, Bosco!” She tugged at his sleeve eagerly.
“Ah, no…I mean, I got someone whom I like. But she isn’t my girlfriend.” Bosco clarified.
Myolie’s expression turned disappointed and let out a loud sigh, “That means it’s a one-sided love then? Well, that sounds more like you, Bosco Wong, being secretly in love with a girl.” With that, she started giggling to herself.
“Don’t laugh, it’s not funny.” Bosco said seriously.
“Woah, this girl must be really special for you to be so serious. It’s fine even if it’s just a one-sided love. How is she like?” Myolie asked.
Bosco stared at her for a few minutes, before smiling widely, “Hmm, she’s…she’s so different from other women. How do I say? Her personality is nothing like her appearance. If you say something nasty to her, even though she might look like she isn’t bothered with it, in actual fact she’s unhappy over it. She doesn’t like people to think that she’s a weak person, so she often put up a strong front. What else is there to say? Hmm…”
Myolie gave a subtle laugh as she watched Bosco reply to her question. He looked so contented and happy even though it was merely a one-sided love. She guessed that he really did love and admire this lady very much. This made her wonder about the identity of the lady. Was the lady someone she knew? But it was highly unlikely since she was the only female whom often hung around Bosco during working hours.
“Who is she?” Myolie could not help but ask.
Bosco shook his head. He refused to divulge her identity, but Myolie refused to give up and continue pestering him. In the end, they reached an agreement that Bosco could provide her with a clue.
Bosco stopped and looked deeply into Myolie’s eyes. He answered with a tinge of sadness in his voice, “She’s…she’s so near…yet so far.”

“Other than me, it’s just Sharon whom has the most contact with Bosco. Is it her? Could it be her?” Myolie murmured to herself.
“So which movie are you interested in?” The voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Huh? What?” She looked up, and saw Raymond waiting for her reply.
“If you aren’t interested, just say so. Stop making me feel like a fool. I’m tired of having to repeat my words.” Raymond was displeased when Myolie did not pay attention to his words again, and it had been the sixth time already since they had dinner together.
Myolie frowned and shot back, “It was you whom suggested having a date tonight when I remembered I mentioned that I was tired.”
“Oh yes, so it’s my entire fault, am I right? So who’s the dumb fool whom forgot about this morning’s appointment huh? Don’t forget that we’ve to fulfill 21 hours of ‘dating time’!” Raymond raised his voice unhappily, drawing attention from some on-lookers.
“Stupid petty, old man.” Myolie scowled in disgust at him, before walking away from the argument. She heard Raymond mumbling some inaudible curses, but she could not be bothered with him. After walking for some distance, Myolie realized that she had left her handbag in Raymond’s car, and now she had no money to catch a taxi home.
“Damn, what bad luck I got.” She mumbled as she returned to the place where she left Raymond there. However, he was nowhere in sight already. At that moment, she caught a familiar figure from afar.
“Bosco! Bosco Wong!” She jumped up elatedly and waved to him.
Bosco was caught by surprise when he heard someone calling out his name. Taking a closer look, he realized that it was Myolie. It was such a coincidence for them to meet, since Myolie had never mentioned about the location of her date with Raymond.
“It’s so good to see you here! God must’ve heard my prayer, and sent you to me.” She grinned gleefully at him.
Bosco laughed at her words, “What are you talking about? Where’s Raymond? I thought both of you are together?”
Her expression turned sullen, “Don’t talk about him. It’s his fault that I’m ‘penniless’ now.”
Bosco chuckled and nodded his head, “Alright, we shall not talk about him then. So what do you wish to do now?”
“Hmm,” Myolie thought for a while, “It’s a long time since we watched a movie together. How about that?” She pointed to the cinema.
“No problem. You want a romance comedy, am I right?” Bosco smiled and went over to purchase the tickets.
“In this world, only Bosco knows me best.” Myolie silently thought to herself, as she joined Bosco in the queue.

Bosco pulled up in front of her house.
“Thanks for the movie treat tonight, and also this ride.” She said smiling.
“Ha, since when have you become so courteous with me?” Bosco commented, “I expect something in return. Tomorrow’s lunch will be on you.”
Myolie nodded her head, and alighted from the car. Waving goodbye, she watched Bosco drove off, and at that moment, she saw Raymond’s car parked not faraway as well. He was inside the car watching both Bosco and her just now since he had driven to her home and waited for her to return after their argument. Myolie thought Raymond looked pretty upset. He got out of his car, and walked towards her.
“You forgot this.” He passed the handbag to her.
“Thanks.” She mumbled.
Raymond took in a deep breath before saying, “I’m sorry for losing my temper.”
Myolie looked away, avoiding his gaze. She did not respond to his apology.
“Goodnight.” He continued, before making his way back to the car.
Myolie stood there and watched him go. She had wanted to accept his apology earlier on, but her pride refused to budge.

Raymond lay on his bed. He tossed and turned, trying to get to sleep but to no avail. The image of Bosco and Myolie remained so vivid in his mind, and kept on replaying non-stop. Getting up from the bed, he walked over to the mirror and stared at his reflection.
“You shouldn’t be so petty, Raymond Lam. Just give in to her. She’ll be pleased with you if you listen to her, and then slowly, she’ll fall in love with you. Isn’t that the desired outcome?” He said to himself.
Well, he had an opportunity to make up for his mistake tomorrow. He was definitely going to cherish it.
On the other hand, Myolie was unable to get to sleep either. Was she too fierce on him earlier on? After all, it was supposed to be her fault, yet he was the one whom initiated an apology. Feeling confused and tired, she lazed on the bed, and looked at the calendar on her table. Tomorrow was her mother’s birthday. It had been a long time since she last visited her mother. She began to recall about her childhood times with her. It was the happiest moment of her life. Gradually, her thoughts drifted to the later part of her life. She took her life, and left behind a note to Myolie, blaming Melissa for breaking this family and snatching her husband away from her. Closing her eyes, a tear trickled down from the corner of her eye. Her mother’s death dealt her with a huge blow, and slowly, she grew to hate Melissa, as missing her mother began to weigh down heavily on her over the years.

Myolie woke up much earlier than usual. Picking out her favorite outfit, she merely put on some light make-up and left the house. She needed to rush over to the florist shop to get the freshest flowers before heading over to visit her mother.
“Oh? Raymond?” Myolie was surprised to find Raymond waiting outside her home.
He smiled brightly at her, “Good morning.”
“Why are you here? Did we have an appointment?” She tried hard to recall, as she was afraid that she had forgotten about it like the previous time.
“No. I remembered that it’s your mother’s birthday today.” Raymond said, before reaching into the car and retrieved a bouquet of white lilies, “I got your mother’s favorite flowers for you.”
Myolie was touched by his gesture. She had thought that he would deliberately ignore her for a few days after their quarrel, but he did not, and even went to the extent of remembering about her mother’s birthday. Actually, Raymond had asked Melissa yesterday during breakfast, and found out some information about Myolie’s mother, but Melissa had warned him not to tell Myolie about it.
“Let’s go. I bet your mother’s waiting for you now.” He said, opening the car door for her to get in.

She placed the bouquet of white lilies in front of the tombstone. Raymond stood behind her and watched on. He saw tears starting to well up in her eyes, before they streamed down her rosy cheeks. Myolie tried to stifle her cries, as her hand cupped over her mouth tightly. Carefully, Raymond used a piece of tissue and wiped the tears on her cheeks. She looked up at him, as he flashed a reassuring smile back.
“Don’t worry, I’m here.” He coaxed gently, sensing the insecurity coming from her.
He had guessed that during these years, she was always visiting the grave alone by herself. There was no one she could lean onto whenever she felt like crying. There was no one she could depend on whenever she felt lonely.
“Thanks.” She whispered, before holding onto his hand tightly, “Mummy, I brought someone else here today. He’s my boyfriend, Raymond Lam.”
“Happy birthday, Aunty. You don’t have to worry about Myolie. I’ll take good care of her.” Raymond said.
Upon hearing his words, Myolie could not help but smile from the bottom of her heart. She began wondering if it was because of Raymond’s presence today. She actually felt that a huge part of the burden being lifted off, being more relaxed than usual. As they strolled back to the car hand-in-hand, Myolie looked over to him, and said silently to herself, “Thank you, Raymond.”

“Come on, faster, Myo!” Raymond beckoned.
“Ugh, I’m so sleepy…and tired. Why do we have to watch the sunrise?” Myolie complained as she dragged herself up the slope.
“Well, isn’t it romantic to watch the sunrise together?” Raymond frowned, before mumbling to himself, “I swear the book wrote that a sunrise with my girlfriend is a good opportunity to build up our relationship.”
“I prefer to have my sleep instead.” She said, trying her best to catch up with Raymond.
Raymond turned and looked back at Myolie. Letting out a loud sigh, he hurried over to her.
“Alright, don’t complain that I’m not a gentleman. Since we’re about three-quarters up already, I shall piggyback you up to the summit.” He offered.
Myolie’s eyes immediately lit up when she heard his words. Nodding her head rapidly in agreement, Raymond lowered himself and allowed Myolie to get onto his back. She wrapped her arms around his back tightly. It felt so comfortable being on his masculine back.
“Ha, you should lose some weight, Myolie Wu, or I won’t ever piggyback you again.” Raymond joked.
She sulked in displeasure, “You should be the one training up your muscles instead. It’s your honor to be able to piggyback me. No guys have ever carried me before.”
“Oh? Are you serious? I’ve never piggybacked any women before. You’re the first…” Raymond said, before murmuring to himself, “and hopefully, the last one too.”
“Huh? What did you say?” She asked sleepily, resting her head near the back of his neck.
“Nothing. Get some sleep. I’ll call you again when we reach.” He said.
“Hmm.” She answered, drifting off to sleep almost immediately.

“Oh my, oh my! Look over here, why are you smiling so happily, Raymond Lam?” Bowie eyed suspiciously at his brother.
“Shh, we’re in the office.” Raymond said.
“Come clean with me now. So both of you watched the sunrise this morning?” Bowie asked.
Raymond nodded his head, and grinned sheepishly. He could probably never forget that priceless expression on Myolie’s face when she saw the sunrise.
“And you visited her mother a few days ago as well?” Bowie asked in disbelief.
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Raymond did not understand Bowie’s hint.
“You’re so dead, my brother. You’re in love.” Bowie shook his head despairingly.
Raymond darted his eyes in suspicion. How could it be? Well, it was deniable that he got along pretty well with Myolie lately after that arguemnt, even her tantrums became an enjoyment to him.
“So what if I like her? Well, the contract didn’t state that I can’t fall in love with her, did it?” Raymond replied hastily, before going off in another direction.
Bowie shook his head as he watched Raymond leave, “Geez, he’s really down with the love bug.”
