The night was cold, the moon was out, and the darkness roamed the streets, casting long shadows that looked eerie to the naked eye. The sound of complete silence, other then the sudden honk from a distant car, was disturbing when you walk down the sidewalks of Seoul.
You feel the cold, bitter wind go up and around your bare skin when exposed to it, so you wrap yourself tighter with the scarf around your neck, and the long leather autumn coat you zip it up more. The breaths you take as they release cast clouds in the dim light of the street lights, but soon disappear as soon as they appeared in the first place.
This scene… this presence of yourself… you could imagine that you just went to a nearby convience store, and left to quickly go home…
That was not really the situation for Ahn So Hee…
[[FlashBack – That Morning – Seoul High School]]
(~‘…So Hee…’~)
“YO! COMING THROUGH!”
Before I could even turn around, someone rushed RIGHT by me on there motorcycle. I screamed in shock as I dropped my books. The sound of the motor was loud, and it pierced my ears as it screeched to a stop not far in front of me. The person on the bike turned their head around, though I couldn’t tell who he or she was, because of the darkness of the plastic cover over their face. I realized I was just standing there, looking back at the person, when someone yelled from behind.
“So Hee?! Are you okay!?”
I turned around to see my sister, Sun Mi. She looked at me worriedly, then shot a look at the person on the motorcycle, who was now parking it in a nearby free spot. I scoffed as I bent down to pick up my books, when a hand reached down and touched mine. I looked at the hand… and it had a leather glove on…
I slowly turned my head up, and saw him… yes. It was a him, and he was new, I could tell. I didn’t see him around before, and OBVIOUSLY I didn’t see that motorcycle around before.
“MIANHE! Oh my word, are you alright? Did I hurt you?”
“Uhh, I’m fine. Thanks for your concerns, but I’m alright.” I said, smiling slightly. I went back to pick up my scattered books and papers, realizing that they were incredibly dirty… huh, Mrs. Hwang won’t like my book report like this…
“Uhm… are you new?”
For a second, I almost forgot that Sun Mi was there. I looked up at her, and like I expected, she was dumbstruck. She had that dreamy look in her eyes, and she had that goofy smile on. I rolled my eyes and picked up my final notebook for school, and stood up. I looked at Sun Mi, and yes, most definitely she already fell for this new kid. WTF? I waved my hand in front of her face, since she was kinda ‘out there’ for a moment as the new kid continued to look back. Freaky, much?
“YO SUN MI!” I yelled, causing her to jump.
“WHAT!?”
“Have you ever heard of SCHOOL? And the word LATE? Cause that’s where we need to be and what we are right now!” I said, grabbing her arm and draggin her inside the school, leaving her to look back at him.
I sneaked a peek at him… he was cute. And honestly, I never say that to a lot of guys. All the guys here are okay, but not DAZZLING. This new kid wasn’t that either, but he was better then most.
He had that special rare lucious brown hair that went to the side as the wind picked up. His smile… could be recognizable from afar. His voice was soothing as well. I wonder if he came from America, because that would make SO much sense. When I realized that I was looking at him too much, I quickly turned around to face forward, and walked inside the school, with Sun Mi along.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“SO HEE! Do you realize that this is a MAJOR mark?”
“Nae…”
“But.. whatever happened to this!?” Mrs. Hwang, my creative writing/language arts teacher scolded me, holding onto the dirty muddy book report that I just gave her to hand in. When the others that were behind me in the line heard Mrs. Hwang already yelling, they slowly departed for their seats, leaving me there, in front of the class, getting the scolding of a Wednesday morning… just great.
“I… I… I dropped it by accident… Mianhe Mrs. Hwang…” I said, bowing and feeling the embarrassment rush to my cheeks, burning them up as I sneaked a peek at the captivated class watching me.
“This is not like you So Hee… you handle your work with time and care… why now that you give me in this trash?”
I froze at that last word she used. ‘Trash’. My time and CARE for that DAMN 5000 word book report, and she calls it TRASH. Yeah, sure, I dropped it in a muddy spot on the cement, but I had a reason! I dropped it because… of HIM. Geez, and she doesn’t believe me?
Wait.. what’s there to believe? I didn’t tell her… but I don’t want the new kid to get in trouble on his FIRST day… by ME! Cause like… that would be so damn heartless!
“Well?”
I snapped out of it as I blinked a couple times. “Nae?”
“Aren’t you going to promise to hand me in another book report, fresh and neat, tomorrow morning?”
I gaped my mouth open, unbelieving what I was hearing. I spent at least 8 hours on that report… and she’s EXPECTING ME TO DO IT AGAIN!? WTF!?
I felt my blood boiling as I clentched my hands into fists as I looked at her. “Nae, Mrs. Hwang.” I said through gritted teeth. I turned around and stomped to my seat. Everyone was looking at me, but unlike I thought, they were looking at me worriedly. Even if I didn’t talk to most of them, they knew me so well.
For one thing, I hate being scolded by grown ups. They just piss me off, seriously. And also, I hate homework here in Seoul High. It’s just so tiring, and so damn annoying. There should be a rule here in Korea for teachers not to give their students homework that require 5000 or MORE words to it, dammit. I let out a frustrated scoff as I sunk down in my chair…
“Umm… So Hee?”
I sat up straight a little when I turned around, facing Ye Eun, my and Sun Mi’s friend since elementry school.
“Hmm?”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Fine. Just… fine.” I said as I forced myself not to look at Mrs. Hwang, who was swiftly collecting book reports.
“Um… if you want, I could come over to your place and help out?”
“Noo! It’s okay Ye Eun, you need Sun Mi anyways for your date tonight, right?” I smiled weakly at her, which caused her to frown then smile.
“Haha. Very funny… it’s not a date.. it’s a… a…”
“A what, Ye Eun?”
“A… get together! Yeah! Get together!”
I rolled my eyes and turned back around to face the front before the teacher noticed and scolded me AGAIN. “Pshhh, whatever, YeYe.”
“YAH! I heard that!” She whispered harshly back at me, but that was end of discussion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“HEY!”
I sighed to myself as I continued walking, knowing that it wasn’t for me, so I shouldn’t be nosy to turn around, only expecting one of the jocks to fly by and capture their girl or whatever. I continued walking, until the new kid fly past me and stopped in front of me, causing me to stop in my tracks suddenly.
“Geez! Can you NOT do that!?” I huffed under my breath, looking up at him seeing that he had an apologetic and confused face. I just smiled weakly. “Forget what I said.. it’s just I had a bad day…”
“Like what?” He said, turning so he was walking beside me. I looked at the ground and started talking to him, like I knew him for who knows how long, and vice versa…
“Like… my 5000 book report was ripped in two and my damn teacher expects me to type up another one. God, I spent so much time on that! And she said it was TRASH! TRASH, I tell you, TRASH!”
“Wait… did that book report of yours fall when I hurt you this morning?”
“Okay there, buddy, first of all… you didn’t hurt me. Take that out of your mind, okay?” He nodded. “And yes… my book report fell out when my books fell to the floor…” I bit my tongue just in time before I said when he zoomed by me, scaring me to death which was the reason that he made me drop my books and everything else.
“Mianhe…” LIKE HE READ MY DAMN MIND. WOW.
I stopped to look at him. “Huh? Why you apologizing? Wasn’t your fault…”
“No, it was! Why do you keep thinking that you shouldn’t make me feel bad, when I actually am feeling bad that your not really admitting it?”
“WHOA WHOA WHOA, who said that I was hiding anything?”
“The fact that you hide things so ‘slyly’,” he air quoted. “Is so spectacular. I could read you like a BOOK.”
I gaped my mouth open at him as he smiled in victory. Wow… this guy is good at proving something right. He should be a lawyer. I then nodded slowly looking at the ground.
“Mianhe for lying to you… it’s just your first day, and I would’ve never let it go that I caused a senior to get in trouble because of his junior.”
“AHA. Man, your funny!”
I looked up at him again, and he was smiling warmly at me, his bag swung over his shoulder, still walking with me. That smile of his… wow. I didn’t notice it before. It showed his pearl white teeth, and it was absolutely stunning. It even caused his eyes to smile too.
I shook it off when he turned his head to look at me also. I looked the other way slowly when I realized I had mathematics. It was the door across from where we were standing then. I turned to him, bowed, and started walking into class when he grabbed my arm.
“What’s your name?”
“Oh.. So Hee… Ahn So Hee.”
“Well, I’m Kwon Ji Yong. Umm… why not I pick you up later okay?”
“Why?”
“Because I want to make it up to you!”
“For wh---”
“It’s a date then! Later! Got to get to class! Bye So Hee!”
And with that, he turned and ran down the hall, and disappeared behind the corner up the stairs to the upper floor.
I turned around slowly to walk to class. “…a date…” I muttered to myself. A date? A DATE? WTF, A FREAKEN DATE!? OH GOD, someone KILL ME! It’s my first date with ANYONE and it’s with someone I barely even know! I just met him this MORNING for crying out loud!
I sighed as I smacked my forehead, thinking what have I gotten myself into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“RINGGGG!”
School finally ended, I rushed to my locker, put everything in my bag, looped my arms through the strands and trotted down the halls, out the door. As usual, I stood by the doors, waiting for Sun Mi and Ye Eun to come, when the roar of a motor engine was heard. I was listening to my iPod at a low volume, but loud enough… and I still heard that motor. I looked up and sure enough, Ji Yong was there, smiling.
Seriously, was he even the RIGHT AGE to drive a motorcycle? Yes, I have rode one before, but it was a lot harder then you THINK. It’s death, that thing.
“So Hee! Come on!”
I plucked an earphone out of my ears and said “WHAT?”
Ji Yong turned the motor off, and everything went silent again. “Come on!”
“No.. I have to wait for---”
“Just go already, dammit!”
I turned around to see Sun Mi and Ye Eun smiling ear to ear, hand motions used for me to go to him. I looked at them like I was crazy, so Ye Eun walked over, and pushed me over. I yelped as Sun Mi took my bag, and waved. When I stumbled beside Ji Yong, I gave a glare at both my own SISTER and my BEST FRIEND. Damn, why are they so… MEAN?
Then, out of nowhere, a helmet was cast on my head with a clunk. I yelped in shock, and turned to see Ji Yong laugh. “Calm down, girl! It’s just a helmet! Now come on, slowpoke!” Ji Yong came around, and placed his hands on my waist. I widened my eyes as I grabbed his hands to let go, but his grip tightened, and I was lifted in the air. I had an urge to scream, until I realized he only picked me up to place me on the back of his motorcycle. I mentally slapped myself for being so stupid.
Ji Yong smiled, then pulled his helmet on. He got on his motorcycle, and roared it to life. I jumped when the rumble of the motorcycle came to life, and I looped my arms around Ji Yong’s waist instantly. For a moment, everything was stopped, until I let go. Ji Yong then shook his head, grabbed both my hands backwards, and he placed my hands back around his waist. I didn’t argue when he pulled back the brakes and we rushed to wherever we were going.
I was amazed at how fast he was going… so fast, it got my dizzy, seeing everything go by as a blur. So I closed my eyes, and then like 10 seconds later, we stopped moving. I opened my eyes slowly, and sure enough, we stopped.
I let go of his waist and looked around…
The beach? Why were we---
He pulled the helmet off my head as I tried to control my hair as it was going everywhere. He smiled as he took off his leather gloves and reached for my hand. I looked at him as I slowly took his and jumped off. Landed with a thud with my school shoes on, and my long skirt fluttering in the slight breeze of the beach, the smell of the salt water penetrating my senses.
Ji Yong led me to the sand, where he took off his shoes, so I did as well. And next thing I know, we were chasing each other across the beach, laughing. He apparently got a handful of sand and dumped it on me. I glared at him and he did an ‘Uh-Oh’ face and ran, me not so far behind. When I had finally caught him, I threw as much sand on his body as I could… then out of nowhere, he sat up and caught my legs. I screamed as I flew backwards, landing with a thud on the thankfully softest sand I have ever landed on. Ji Yong apparently tried to stop me from falling, so he ended up falling ontop of me…
I looked at him… and he looked at me. I gotta say, it was hella awkward, but in a good way. The sun was setting then, and the wind started to pick up. Ji Yong gradually sat straight up, and got me off from the ground. When he saw me slightly shivering from the wind, he took off his leather jacket (leather leather leather… huh, makes sense for a motorcycle rider) and gave it to me. I didn’t argue as I pulled my fragile arms inside his jacket, his body heat transferring to me… warming me up. But I was still cold.
Ji yong led me to his motorcycle, and, again, out of nowhere he pulled out a scarf. He wrapped it around me as I looked at him. He was concentraded on the scarf tying and when he was done he caught me looking at him.
“What?”
“Ohh..” I said, looking away, blushing. “Nothing. Mianhe.”
“Ahaha, it’s okay.. umm… hopefully this was a good sorry I could give you?”
“Apology ACCEPTED!” I said, smiling. He smiled back, and for a moment there… I really felt happy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here I am now. Ji Yong insisted to drive me home, but I declined, telling him to stop at the stop of the beginning of the road where I live. He looked at me hesitately and I just nodded, telling him it’s okay. He nodded back and waved… then he winked. I gaped my mouth open, wide eyed, as he laughed as he started the engine and sprang off. I didn’t notice that I forgot to give back his leather jacket and his scarf… but I smiled as I hugged myself tighter. His smell caught my attention as I slightly blushed to myself. I held my cheeks, thinking if I really had… you know …
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Days past, days turned to months when I more and more found out more about him. Hmm.. let’s get the facts straight!
His name is Kwon Ji Yong, but his friends from his old school called him G-D, short for G-Dragon. His birthday’s August 18th… he has a ‘handsomely ugly’ puppy named Ga-Ho, he was apart of this gang-ish group called “Big Bang” back at his old school… and he never fell in love before.
The last fact shocked me. A guy, like him, so… handsome …and he couldn’t find a beautiful girl to match him!? What’s WRONG with the world? He told me that he has dated many girls, but the girls are the ones who dump him. Even if he was apart of this ‘BigBang’ thing, he was the most awkward one out of the group, since he never talks or just never usually socializes… Hard to believe, huh?
I didn’t even believe it myself, but his life is his life.
Okay, I must admit.. I might have a slight crush on him… but it’s nothing big. I mean… sure… he might be cute and talkative once he talks to me… and sure, my heart might go balistic once he talks to me… and sure, my breathing quickens… and sure, I feel the heat rise to my cheeks…
OH HELL, I LOVE HIM, DON’T I?
Winter flew by, but we were still hit by it. It’s February… the 14th. Which is Valentines Day… a day I really kinda hate. Cause every year, Ye Eun and Sun Mi would get BAGS AND BAGS of chocolates and cards from boys and their friends (including me), but me… I never get anything, except from them two. Everyone knows me in the school, but I wasn’t popular…
But today was very much different.
My class was waiting in Mrs. Hwang’s class, as she was in the main office to get our ‘gifts’ for us on this oh-so special day. When the door opened, everyone cheered. Mrs. Hwang quieted us down as she put down… 5 freaken bags of stuff. I widened my eyes, and so did everyone else, at the amount of gifts…
Chocolates… cards… pillows… teddy bears…
Wow. Passionate, much?
“Sun Mi… Sun Mi… Sun Mi… ah! Ye Eun… Sun Mi… Ye Eun… Ye Eun… Li Ah… Tae Bong… Lin Hae… Sun Mi… Ye Eun… Ye Eun…”
The teacher went on and on with the gifts rummaging through everything… then, after about what seemed to be a good 15 minutes…
“… and … So Hee.”
My head popped up from the hearing of my name. The girls in the class gasped as I looked at them. Probably just a chocolate---
OH MY GOD.
Mrs. Hwang, smiling, walked over, holding a bouquet of white and red roses, with a little teddy bear in the middle. It was holding the card, and I walked over to my desk, sat down, and took the card. ‘Did… he…’ I wondered, that thought cut with his handwriting.
“Dearest So Hee,
These past few months I spent with you was amazing… I really wanted this day to come, and FINALLY it did!..” I laughed at his choice of words, and continued to read.
“And I really wanted you to know that… Ahn So Hee, I like you.”
My heart stopped, but my eyes continued to fly around the paper.
“Yes, it’s stupid of me to write that on paper… but… meet me at the beach we first went on our first date? Meet me there at 7:00 sharp. Don’t be late! ;)
Hopefully you’ll have the happiest of a Valentine’s Day,
Ji Yong ^^ <3”
“Who sent these!?”
I snapped back to reality as I looked up to see a smiling Sun Mi and a wide eyed, impressed Ye Eun. I tucked the card into my pocket and shook my head.
“I don’t… know.” I muttered, admiring the roses. Ye Eun perked her eyebrow up and looked at me.
“Uhuh… sure… the best gift so far that I’ve ever seen. No one has EVER given me roses… that’s so ROMANTIC, man! Damn!” She said, laughing in the end with Sun Mi and me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walking along the soft sand, with the sun still over the horizon, just about to set, I looked here and there for Ji Yong, but he was no where in sight. I frowned if I read the card wrong, but I swore on it…!
Then, without my consent, my eyes were covered. I stood there frozen, until his voice rang through my ears, causing my heart to skip some beats.
“So Hee… you look beautiful.”
I smiled at his words and felt myself blush. “Thank you, Ji Yong… Can I see what---”
“Impatient, much? Come on, we just need to take a quick stroll along the sand and we’ll be there… don’t worry… come, love.” I shiver went down my spine when he said the last two words. “Also, keep your eyes closed, promise?” I laughed as he did as well. I nodded.
“Nae…”
I felt his hands away from my eyes, and he took my hand almost immediately. He soon led me silently across the sand, my dress flowing through the same slight breeze the first time we’ve been here.
After that little stroll he’d been talking about, he came to a stop, causing me to stop.
“No peeking!”
I nodded and smiled. I could tell he smiled as well. My heart broke into a sprint when he released my hand and walked off somewhere where my ears couldn’t pick up…
“Open your eyes, love…”
I opened my eyes oh so slowly… and the sight before me shocked me. I gasped silently as I widened my eyes and looked around the beautiful set up.
The breeze didn’t reach here, as it was perfect for Ji Yong. Red rose petals were formed into a heart on the sand, with beautiful little candles surrounding the heart in a circle, the fire on each of them flickering peacefully. And in the middle, stood Ji Yong, in the middle of the saying “Please Be Mine”. Tears trickled down my cheeks as I ran over to him and embraced him. He gladly hugged me back.
“What do you say, girl? Please be mine?” He whispered. I laughed as I sobbed silently. I pulled away and looked at him, with the sun setting, casting the perfect light against his flawless face. I took his face in my hands as another tear slid down my cheek as I smiled warmly.
I nodded. “Nae… I will be yours.” Ji Yong smiled widely and picked me up to twirl me around. We laughed until he set me down. We looked into each other’s eyes as he slowly leaned in.
He planted a soft kiss on my lips, taking away my first kiss…
“Saranghae…” He whispered in my ear as he hugged me once more. I smiled as I snuggled my face into his chest.
“Saranghae…”
