Her plan is proceeding as she has expected. The two Mrs. Lam and Julian have gone to the business party, and Bosco has gone to Myolie’s house for dinner. David is the only one left in the Lam’s Mansion, with only his servants and maids with him.
She continues with her plan as she waits for Charmaine to get to the mansion.
She gets out her long tube and blows into it. The maids and servants all faint at once after inhaling the fainting poison.
She then goes to find the electricity box and cuts the power of the house. The mansion becomes pitch black instantaneously.
David is sleeping on his bed. He is not aware of the commotion that his house is undergoing.
The poison that Charmaine has exchanged with the blood-pressure pills has actually taken effect on him. He feels fatigue throughout his entire body.
The door of his room swings open. A shadow is standing at the threshold..............

Julian has followed the person, who he suspects to be Charmaine, for half an hour already.
And he is right. The person is indeed Charmaine.
She rides on her bicycle through the lonesome night. Her eyes are focused on the road ahead, but her mind is never focused. It has drifted off to replay all the events that have happened in the past five years. That is probably the reason why she didn’t know that she is being followed.
She remembered how Steven suddenly disappeared in her life, and how her aunt told her to become a police.......
[flashback- five years ago]
“You should become a police instead of a social worker.” Shirley says.
“Why, Goo Jie?” Charmaine asks.
“Because I am Bird of the Night.”
Charmaine’s eyes widen. She asks, “But what is Bird of the Night? And what does it do good if I am a police?”
Shirley explains, “I am a thief who robs the rich and helps the poor. And if you are a police, you can get access to some top-secret files in the police department that might help us in the long run.”
“Us?”
“Yes. You are now the new generation of Bird of the Night, my disciple.” Shirley pats Charmaine’s shoulder.
Charmaine scratches her head and frowns.
“Don’t worry. I will explain everything to you slowly. And the martial arts that I have taught you since you were five years old will put into good use from now on.” Shirley says triumphantly.
[End of flashback]
From that day on, Charmaine entered the police training school and became a police.
During daytime, she is a “Madam”, but at night, she is a “bird”.
In the five years period, she stole from wealthy men and helped fifty different orphanages without letting the police know.
Everyday is a routine, until suddenly one day, her aunt told her that they have a new and special target: David Lam.
And she met him, one that has moved her heart, and has slowly become her everything.
Tears begin to clog her eyes as his picture floats into her mind. She whispers, “Sorry Julian.”
Using one hand to control her bicycle, she wipes away her tears with her right hand. She reminds herself, “Charmaine Lau. You have to be strong now. Get the job done and everything will be fine.”
She finally reaches her destination: Lam’s Mansion.
“My house?” Julian asks himself.
Charmaine gets off her bike and throws it away. She notices that the house is all dark. Her aunt should be waiting on top.
For safety reason, her aunt told her to enter through the window of Daivd’s room. As a result, she takes out a special rope, where the end has a hook on it. She throws it toward the balcony, and the hook steadies onto the railing.
She climbs up the rope and lands on the second floor. She pushes off the curtain and enters David’s room.
As the curtain is pulled open, she immediately sees her aunt standing next to David, with a gun pointing at his forehead.
David says frantically, “Who are you? What are you doing with that gun?”
Shirley replies calmly, “Playing with you. Mr. David.” She pushes the gun forward to scare him.
As David sees another person’s appearance, he asks, “Another one? Who are you two?”
Shirley laughs evilly. She says, “Go ahead and let Mr. Lam hear your voice.”
Charmaine clears her throat and says, “Hi, Mr. Lam. How are you?”
David gasps. He cannot believe his ears. He says while shivering, “Charmaine Lau! It’s you!”
Shirley smiles at herself and says, “Yes, it’s her. Your son’s girlfriend. And I am her aunt, for your information.” She pauses and adds, “We are also Bird of the Night.” She puts stresses on the last four words.
“Bird of the Night? What do I have to do with you two?” He turns to Charmaine and says, “I have already let you and my son to be together. What else do you want from me?”
Charmaine remains silent.
Shirley says, “You will see, David. Be patient.” She turns to Charmaine and orders, “Give him some antidote so that he can at least walk down the stairs.”
“Yes Goo Jie.” Charmaine takes out a bottle and pours out a round object from it. She opens David’s mouth and lands the object inside. David almost chokes from the antidote.
“You accompany him down the stairs.” Shirley adds.
“Alright.” Charmaine takes out a gun from her pocket and points it at David’s waist. She helps him up and says threateningly, “If you don’t want your stomach to open a hole, then don’t do anything funny.”
David grunts and starts to walk out the room using Charmaine’s help.
After much struggle, Charmaine finally reached the last step of the stairs with David. At that time, Shirley takes her turn to seize David. She gives a key to Charmaine and says, “You go start the car.”
“Okay.” Charmaine takes the key and exits the Lam’s Mansion.
Julian is hiding in the bushes all this while. As he sees Charmaine coming out, he jumps out from his hiding spot and stops her.
Her face is covered from the nose to the mouth, but her eyes are not covered. From her eyes, he immediately knows that he is right. It is Charmaine.
“Julian?” Charmaine utters.
He asks, “Why?”
Shirley’s voice comes from Charmaine’s back, and she shouts, “Get him!”
Without second thought, Charmaine hits Julian at the shoulder. He immediately falls down on the floor. Charmaine twists his arm and yells, “Don’t move.”
“Why is he here?” Shirley scolds as she stops next to Charmaine with David still on her guard.
Charmaine says, “Probably he followed me.”
Shirley shakes her head and says, “Foolish! We have no other way, get him on the car as well!”
Charmaine’s eyes widen. “No please.” She begs.
“Do what I say!” Shirley screams.
Charmaine takes a deep breath and picks up Julian from the ground. She opens the back door and pushes him in. She slams the door shut.
“I will drive. You guard these two men.” Shirley orders sternly. She puts David at the front seat.
“Yes.” Charmaine gets on the car and points her gun at Julian.
His eyes keep staring earnestly at her, still asking her “Why?”.
Charmaine avoids his eyes.
The car drives off................
