Charmaine walks over to the table where Mimi, Daisy and Phillip are sitting. They are at the cafeteria for their lunch break. Charmaine takes her seat at the table. She looks at the menu hanging on the left of the cashier station. She asks, “What’s special today?”
“Don’t worry Charmaine, Michael is buying lunch for you.” Phillip points to the right. Charmaine turns and sees Michael standing in line.
Charmaine stands up, “I’ll go-” Daisy pulls Charmaine back down to her seat, and says, “It’s fine Charmaine. Let him show some ‘gentlemen kindness’.”
Mimi smiles at Charmaine and says, “Someone just complains to us about Julian Lam’s action being too disturbing.”
“What are you talking about, Ms. Mimi?”
“You know what I mean.”
“Sorry, I don’t.” Charmaine gets her notebook out and ignores her teammates’ conversations. The three continue to talk among themselves, which mentioning “Mr. Lam” every now and then.
A young man walks into the cafeteria. He looks around, and finally finds what he is looking for. He walks toward Charmaine.
“Hi!”
Mimi, Daisy, and Phillip freeze at their spots. Mimi murmurs, “Never talk behind people......”
Charmaine looks up at the man, and greets him with, “Hi Mr. Lam.”
“Am I disturbing your?”
Michael voice rings in the back, “Yes.” He put down two trays on the table, and takes his seat. He hands Charmaine the utensils, and says, “We are having lunch and our table is full. If Mr. Lam wants to talk about your father’s case, I suggest you come back later as this is our lunch break.” He starts to eat from his dish.
Julian continues to speak, “I am sorry for disturbing your lunch. I just wonder if I can talk to Madam Lau alone for just one moment?”
All of the four people sitting at the table look up at Charmaine at once. They want her answer, too.
Charmaine looks at her plate. She picks up her spoon and scoops up a spoonful of rice. She says without looking up, “Mr. Lam, we are having lunch right now.”
Julian is disappointed. “However,” Charmaine continues, “I have a 15-min spare time after lunch. I think the top floor of this building is easy to find.”
Julian happily replies, “Thanks Madam. Sorry again about disturbing your lunch.” He walks away to an empty table.
Michael argues, “But Charmaine-"
“It’s going to be fine.”

(“Sister, be careful.”
A little girl replies, “Yes brother. Come on, follow me!” She hops forward excitedly. She suddenly stops in front of a tree. She points her little finger at the bottom of the tree. “There’s a rabbit. I’ll catch you!” She runs forward. “Wa!”
“Hey wait up!”
“Almost got it. Almost- Ah.......”)
It’s too painful to remember such memory. It hurts too much to recall. His eyes fill with tears. He cannot hold anymore.
Distant sounds of footsteps cause Julian to stop crying. He is waiting for Charmaine at the top floor. He wipes his eyes dry immediately.
Charmaine walks toward Julian. She nods as she sees him.
“Thanks for coming. Sorry again for disturbing you from your work.”
Charmaine smiles and says, “I just wonder do you say ‘sorrys’ all the time, or is it just to me?”
“Oh, sorry” Julian looks down embarrassedly.
Charmaine replies, “Anyways, I am here, and I am in a hurry. So...”
“Oh yeah, 15-min limit.” He pauses and looks up at Charmaine. He looks at those eyes again.... So familiar.... Now he recalls. They look so much like the pair of his sister. His long deceased sister.....
“Mr. Lam!”
“Sor-.” He catches himself this time. He continues, “I was thinking of my sister.” He pauses. “I just wonder, do you have an elder brother?”
Charmaine is surprised from Julian’s question. She replies, “How do you know?”
“You mean…”
Charmaine cuts him off, “But he is long dead.”
Julian turns silent at the response. He sits down on the floor. Charmaine asks, “Did you think I am your sister?”
Julian looks up at the sky. He slowly replies, “I should know at the first place you can’t be her.” He explains, “She has passed away long, long ago as well.”
“Oh. I am sorry.”
Julian turns toward her, “But your eyes, they look so much like hers. That’s why I was wondering.” He shrugs, “I was wrong.”
“Are you okay?” Charmaine asks.
“Yes. I am fine.”
Charmaine says, “Are you sure?” She sits down beside him. She tries to comfort him, “I was really sad, too, when my brother dies. But I told myself, I have to be strong. I can’t let him be disappointed. I am sure your sister doesn’t want you to be like that as well. Cheer Up!”
After hearing Charmaine’s soothing words, Julian settles his emotions. He looks at his watch, and says, “You should probably leave now. I have bothered you for too long. Sorry!”
Charmaine says, “It’s not bothering. But I really got to go. See ya!” She starts to leave.
“Wait.”
Charmaine turns around, “Yes?”
“Can we, at least, be friends?”
Charmaine replies, “No...unless, you stop saying ‘sorry’ to me.”
Julian smiles, “Yes, Madam!”

In a distant place located in the north of Hong Kong, several rural villages have stood there for almost hundred years already. The life in here is simple. Everyone seems to enjoy their life, despite their states of poverty. It’s late, and all villagers are asleep, except probably one. Or is it a villager??? “He” is an outsider.
“He” walks stealthily in the darkness. It doesn’t take “him” long to reaches “his” destination. “He” opens the door with a tiny key.
It is a small house. The interior looks really dusty and messy. It seems no one has come here for a long time.
The person walks into a small room, and stops at a corner. “He” takes out three pieces of incenses from a bag, and lights the incenses. “He” walks over to a table, where there is a picture frame on it. “He” bows to the picture three times, and put the incenses to the incense burner in front of the picture.
“He” murmurs, “Brother, it won’t be long. He will be with you soon. For that man must pay for your family's deaths. I promise!!!” "He" stares at the picture. The light from the burning incenses enables "him" to see it clearly. It's a really old one. There are four people in the picture: A man, a woman, and two young children.
The person leaves the small house shortly after, disappearing into the darkness......
Who is "He"?
