Chapter 11

A Perfect Moment

++Ron’s POV

Another day for me to visit Leila, I of course always look forward to that each day. I got to her room then I knocked on it. I could hear Leila’s soft voice from the inside saying “Come in.” I slowly opened the door and found her sitting on the bed looking very healthy.

“Hey.” Leila greeted me with a warm smile

I returned the smile and replied “Hey.” I walked up closer towards her bed, and then I noticed something shining coming from Leila. To my surprise, it was the crystal glass heart necklace I gave her the other day. I couldn’t believe she wore it, and I was right, it looks really nice on her, even though she has on the hospital’s outfit.

“So you’ve decided to wear that necklace I gave you.” I said as I looked at the necklace

Leila looked down to the necklace then back to me, “Yeah. You said that it would bring me happiness and good luck, so I wore it.”

“Is it working?” I asked
“Well, not quite yet, but nothing bad is happening.” Leila replied

“I see.” I responded “I’m pretty sure it will work soon enough.”

“Let’s just hope.” Leila replied with another of her warming smile.

“Anyways, when did the doctor said you could go back home?” I asked “You seem to be in good shape right now.”

“Maybe tomorrow or the next next day, it depends.” Leila responded

“Okay, well remember to call me so I can take you home.” I assured

“Don’t worry, I will.” Leila replied

I then remembered that I had to meet Raymond so the both of us could go to the Apple store to check out some new laptops, I hate to leave Leila all alone, but I did promise Raymond.

“Hey, I’m really sorry, but I have to go.” I said guiltily

“Oh. Are you busy or something?” Leila asked

“I’m meeting up with my friend so we could go check out some new laptops at the Apple store.” I answered

“Oh I see. Well you should go then, you wouldn’t want your friend to wait so long.” Leila said

That’s one of the reasons why I like Leila so much, she’s so understanding.

“Okay, I’ll come visit you another time.” I said “Bye.”

“Bye.” Leila replied

With that, I drove back to my apartment to meet up with Ray.

“Hey, I’m home!” I shouted into the empty living room

Moments later, Raymond ran out from his room. “Damn, what took you so long?” He asked

“Leila.” I replied quickly as I got myself a peach iced tea flavored Snapple from the refrigerator.

“Ohhh her again. She does have a big impact on you huh?” Ray asked
“Yeah…so? What about you? I’m pretty sure that Tavia girl has a big impact on you too.” I shot back

“Well yeah…” Raymond replied with a giggle. “Women man, they drive us men nuts sometimes.”

Ron suddenly then remembered all the things he done for Leila, and then laughed to himself how he could do so many things for just an ordinary lady.

“True.” I agreed

“Alright, enough about women, let’s go already!” Ray shouted

“Okay.” I replied

Raymond and I then drove our own cars to the Apple store. When we got there we just looked around. Neither of us got anything because it didn’t qualify what we wanted. Sigh…what a waste of time. And I can’t believe I ditched Leila for that crap.

“Great, still couldn’t find it.” Raymond said as we got out from the Apple store.

“Yeah…maybe next time.” I replied

“What a waste of time.” Raymond complained

“Seriously. I could’ve just stayed with Leila.” I responded

Raymond chuckled then said “Well, you still have time to go see her now.”

“What time is it?” I asked

“Wow, its seven o’clock pm already.” Raymond replied “But no worries, still time.”

“Alright, I’m going to go. Later.” I said as I ran to my car. On the way driving to the hospital, on the radio it was saying that tonight there will be shooting stars. Wow, I couldn’t believe it because that’s very rare. I have to tell Leila this; we might even get to see it together. The thought of it got me excited, so I drove faster to the hospital, anxious to tell Leila. When I got to the hospital, I ran up to Leila’s room and stormed into her room which scared her.

“Slow down Ron, you scared me for a second there.” Leila said

“Sorry, I was just anxious to tell you something.” I answered

“Tell me what?” Leila asked curiously

“On the radio, it said that tonight there will be shooting stars.” I replied

“Really?” Leila asked in disbelief “Are you sure?”

“I’m not sure, but if we go outside tonight, we might be able to see it.” I responded. “Would you like to join me?”

Leila smiled then replied “I’d love to.”

After that, Leila and I went outside and sat on the grass waiting for the shooting stars. It was a warm night, not cold at all, it was just perfect.

“I really hope that there will be shooting stars.” Leila suddenly said as she looked up to the night sky “I remember when I was little, I read lots of fairy tales, and in each story there would be shooting stars, and the people would make a wish and it came true. So from then on, I would look up in the sky every night, hoping that I would see a shooting star so I could wish that my parents would come home. I was pretty naïve huh?” She asked as she looked back down at me.

“Yeah, but you were little then, every kid are naïve and innocent when they were young.” I said

Leila laughed then replied “Well, I still believe that if I make a wish to the shooting stars, then it will come true.”

I laughed along as well and answered “It’s okay to think like that though. Gives you hope if you believe.”

Leila smiled at me and said “Yeah…”

We just stood there looking up at the night sky. We saw stars, the moon, and even airplanes that were flying high in the sky, but still no shooting stars.

Leila sighed and said “We’ve been sitting here for an hour and a half already and still no shooting stars. I think the radio got the wrong news.”

“I don’t know. Let’s have more patient I have a feeling that we will be able to see it tonight.”

“Why are you so sure about it?” Leila asked

“I don’t know…it’s just an instinct.” I replied

“I believe you.” Leila said smiling

I then turned my head to her and smiled back. We waited and waited an waited, but nothing came at all. Even a patient person like me is becoming impatient. Hmmm…I wonder if it would come or not. I then turned over to face Leila to see what she was doing. She was blowing in her hands, I think she’s cold. I then took off my jacket and carefully placed iy on her.

Leila looked over at me and said “Oh thanks.”

“No problem.” I replied

“It sure is taking long.” Leila said

“Yeah it is.” I agreed. I looked up at the sky again to see if I see any shooting stars but nope, I see none. But I do see the big, round, bright moon. It was beautiful. Wouldn’t it be romantic to dance under the moon? I suddenly thought of something.

“Hey, while we wait, would you like to dance?” I asked suddenly

“Dance?” Leila asked as she looked at me weirdly

“Yeah, right here right now. It would be nice.” I replied “So what do you say?”

“Ehhh…I don’t think so.” Leila responded

“Aww…why not? Come on, it’s going to be fun.” I urged

“I can’t dance, I’m horrible at it.” Leila said

“Dancing is all about having fun; you make up your own moves. Besides, I’ll lead you.” I said

“I don’t know…”

“You have to trust me.” I said as I got up. I then took out my right hand and bent down to Leila “So would you like to dance?”

Leila looked up at me, she kind of hesitated, but then I guess she trusts me, so she took my hand and I pulled her up. We got into our dancing position, I then started to hum a little tune, and I started to move my legs. Leila followed my steps, and before she knew it, she and I were dancing. Our faces were only a few inches apart; we were so close that I could even smell her scent. The moment was great and I wish that moment could last. As we were dancing, I then looked down at her small but beautiful face; she also looked up at me. We stopped dancing and just concentrated on each other. Our eyes then met, and I had the urge to kiss her, we got so close, but was interrupted by my cell phone. Damn!

We both then stop what we were doing and then I picked up my phone. “Hello?”

“Hey, it’s late where are you?” Ray asked

“I’m still with Leila, I’ll be home later don’t worry.” I replied. I swear I would’ve chocked him if he was here, he ruined the moment.

“Okay, bye then.” He said and hung up and I hung up as well.

“That was my room mate.” I said

“Oh.” Leila replied. She was blushing. “Well, it’s so late already, I don’t think there’s going to be any shooting stars tonight, let’s go.”

I was disappointed, but…oh well.

“Okay, I’ll walk you in.” I offered

During the walk back, I then looked up at the night sky once more, and surprisingly, I saw the shooting stars this time.

“Look! The shooting stars!” I shouted excitedly

Leila looked up and we both saw the beautiful shooting stars. Leila immediately closed her eyes and made a wish, and I did the same.

“Oh my god, so there ARE shooting stars!” Leila said happily

“Yeah, they’re amazing.” I replied

“This sure is a moment to treasure.” Leila said smiling to herself

I wasn’t sure if she was talking about our dance or the shooting stars, or even both. I’m hoping both.

“What did you wish for?” I asked

“Not telling.” Leila replied with a grin and she walked back to her room.

Today was such a great day for me. Sharing that dance and the shooting star moment with Leila is something that I will always remember. I don't know for sure if Leila's going to accept me or not, doesn't really matter I guess. I just hope that I could be the person who she'll come when she needs support and comfort.
