Today, August 12, 2005 is a very special day to me. Why? Well because it’s me and Qian’s first date. It felt kind of weird going on this date because now that we are together, there are less verbal fights between us and we are a lot more polite to each other, but then I still had a great time. We went on those typical kinds of dates you know, movies, dinner, bowling, and all those good stuff. After all that, I decided to take a stroll on the beach on such a warm and beautiful night. I had my hands in my pants pocket and Qian had her arms crossed. I attempted to hold her hand many times, but I was afraid to, besides her hands were occupied.
“I had a lot of fun today.” Qian spoke suddenly as we were walking.
“Yeah, I had fun too.” I replied, not knowing what else to say.
At that moment, Qian’s arms weren’t crossed anymore and her hands are now dangling below. I was about to grab a hold of her hand but she was quicker than I was. She already held onto my hand and held onto my arms with her other hand. I was quite shocked but wow, she’s very expressive. I like that though. I then looked down at her and her face glowed red as she was smiling shamelessly to herself.
“You were just one second ahead of me.” I stated while walking.
“Huh???” Qian asked confusedly
“That must be hard for you to do.” I said. “It must’ve taken you a lot of courage to hold my hand.”
“Are you trying to tease me Raymond Lam?!” Qian shouted in my face.
“No, no of course not.” I replied. “It’s just usually when I go on dates with girls, I would be the one to make the first move. The only exception is you…”
Qian looked at me angrily, with a pout on her face that looks cuter than ever. “Fine, I’m not going to hold your hand anymore.” She then lets go of my hand and ran ahead of me.
“Wait!” I yelled as I ran after her and grabbed a hold of her hand. “Listen, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to tease you.”
“Get this straight Raymond, from now on you’re not allowed to tease me anymore. I am now your girlfriend and you should be nicer to me. I am not your friend who’s always around for you to tease. If you ever make me angry I’m going to break up with you!” Qian stated in a serious tone.
“Don’t you ever say the two words ‘break up’.” I told her. “It scares me and I don’t ever want that to happen.”
“I was only kidding Ray! No need to get so emotional.” Qian replied
“Kidding or not, I don’t care. It took us a long time to get together and I don’t want anything to go between us. I’ve been dumped by many girls in the past, but it was really no big deal to me. Only you…if you ever leave me, I swear I would never date again.” I said seriously. I’m not making this up, I really mean all this.
“Am I really that important to you?” Qian asked me
“More than you know it.” I replied as I took her two hands into mine and kissed it softly “It may seem like I don’t care about you, but I really do and I want you to know that.”
“I know now.” Qian answered as her eyes grew teary.
I then embraced her petite body tightly as I feel her hands around my back holding me back.
“Oh, I have something for you.” I suddenly said while we were hugging. I finally let go of the embrace and took out a small box from my jacket pocket.
“What is it?” Qian asked curiously
“See for yourself.” I told her as I hand her the small box.
Qian took the box and opened it “Wow, it’s a necklace, but what kind of pendant is this?”
“That’s not some kind of normal pendant; it’s my first baby tooth that fell out when I was seven years old.” I replied
“Your tooth?” Qian asked in disbelief “Why would you put your baby tooth on a necklace for?”
“I don’t know.” I answered “It was important to me then so I thought that maybe I should keep it and so I made it as a pendant on my necklace.”
Qian looked at the tooth and laughed “It’s cute, but why all of a sudden you’re giving it to me?”
“I guess it could be a present for our first time going out, whatever you want to call it.” I said “But to me, it’s like giving a part of me to you.”
Qian looked at me and smiled softly “Thanks, I will keep it safely and treat it as if it’s my own life.”
“No need to sacrifice yourself for it, just keep it safely somewhere.” I responded
“You know what?” Qian asked “I’m going to where it so it will always be with me.” She then wore the necklace on.
“The tooth is hideous; you don’t have to force yourself to wear it if you don’t want to.” I told her
“No, I want to though. Seriously…If it’s important to you then it’s important to me.” Qian replied
“You know, it looks pretty nice on you.” I stated as I looked at it closely
Qian smiled and asked “Really?”
“Yep.” I replied as I gave her a peck on the lip. “Ready to continue on walking Miss Li?”
“Of course.” Qian answered as I grabbed her hand and continue to walk around the beach until midnight falls.

++Leila’s POV
I am currently at Ron’s apartment, watching him cooking dinner for the two of us. I looked at him and thought how lucky I am to have such a wonderful boyfriend as him. I’m carrying a burden in me and yet he’s still there for me to protect me and go through all the bad times I’ve gone through. I know it’s been hard for him and I know that he’s really sad and worried about my sickness. He would always smile when he’s around me, trying to make me happy, but when he leaves; I know that those horrible feelings are with him again. A friend told me that they’ve been seeing Ron at the bar often, sitting all by himself and drinking many bottles of beer. I can’t bear to see him like that, I feel so useless that I cannot help him. All I can do is try to smile more in front of him to show that I’m alright, probably that would ease the pain inside of him.
I then walked into the kitchen where Ron is; he was cutting up some green bell peppers. From behind, I wrapped my arms around his waist and lean my head on his back.
“What are you making?” I asked him with my eyes closed enjoying the warmth of having him in my arms.
“I’m making spaghetti, isn’t it your favorite?” He asked
“Mmm…I love spaghetti.” I replied “Do you want me to help?”
“No, I’m fine.” Ron responded “Just sit back and relax, I’ll tell you when dinner’s ready.”
“Are you sure?” I asked him. I really wanted to help him out instead of laying around the house all day feeling like a lazy pig.
“Positive.” Ron replied. “Now go watch TV or something.”
I sighed heavily then let go of the embrace “Okay then.”
After having the delicious dinner Ron provided for us, we both sat on the couch listening to some Beethoven to ease our minds down a bit. We were both sitting on the couch enjoying the soft music. Ron’s arms were around my waist as I was lying on his shoulder.
“Ron?” I asked as I looked up at him, still having my head lying on his shoulder.
“Yeah?” Ron replied with his eyes closed, I can tell that he’s really exhausted.
“I’m sorry that I’ve been causing so much trouble for you.” I finally said. I’ve always wanted to apologize to him, but there wasn’t really a chance for me to say it.
Ron opened his eyes then sat up straightly “You don’t have to apologize; you didn’t cause me any troubles.”
“Yes I have.” I replied “Because of my sickness, you are always worried and always trying to find the best treatment for me. You never even have time for your own personal things.”
“That’s not true silly.” Ron said as he kissed my forehead “I’m willing to do this, it’s not tiring at all. For you, I can do anything.”
After hearing that, I was very touched, but deep inside, I still feel guilty for causing him so much stress.
I then lied on his shoulder again “I don’t deserve such a great guy like you.”
“Don’t say that.” Ron replied “All the things I do is because I’m willing to and that I love you. If anything ever happens to you, I will never forgive myself.”
I closed my eyes as tear drops starts falling, soaking into Ron’s shirt. I did not say anything but just lied there with the soothing music and knowing that Ron’s right beside me and will never ever leave me.
