Chapter 18

Something New

++Li Qian’s POV

If you ask me when the happiest time of life is then I would have to say right now. Everything so far is going my way, nothing is going against me. I have good friends, and of course I have Raymond, the guy who I never ever think I would be with, but who knows that things like this can happen. I see it as a miracle for me, it really is. He’s been really nice to me and never makes me angry, so I guess you can say that things between us are decent as of right now. Today is our one month anniversary, time flies by so fast when things are going great for you.

“Here’s a bouquet of flowers for you my love.” Raymond said sweetly as he hand me the beautiful bouquet of red roses.

“Thanks, they’re really nice.” I commented “I’m surprised that you remember what day it is today.”

“What? What is today?” Raymond asks, teasing me.

I slapped him playfully on the arm “If you tell me that you don’t remember then you will handle the consequences, I’m warning you Ray.”

Raymond wrapped his arm around my shoulder then replied “I was only joking with you; of course I remember what day it is today. It’s our one month anniversary.”

I smiled in satisfaction “Good, I don’t have to waste my energy chasing you around like a crazy mother.”

Raymond laughed “Well, it’s about time now. Are you ready?”

“Ready for what?” I asked him.

“I know that a bouquet of red roses is not enough, and I’m not quite sure if roses are your favorite flower, so maybe I thought that you could pick the type of flower you like…” Raymond said while we are standing in back of his car. He then opened up his trunk and inside was about a dozen different bouquets, each bouquet is a different type of flowers. They were all so beautiful; I couldn’t believe he would do this for me.

“Oh my god.” Is all I can say at that moment.

“You can pick the ones you like or you can take them all.” Raymond said.

I turned over to him then hugged him “Thank you so much! They’re all so wonderful!”

“You’re welcome, as long as it makes you happy.” Raymond replied

I let go of the embrace then said “My mom would have to help me take care of all these flowers.”

Raymond chuckled softly “Yeah…”

“Okay, it’s my turn to give you your gift.” I said happily as I went into the car on the passenger seat. Raymond then went into the driver’s seat and wondered what I’ll be giving him.

“My gift isn’t creative like yours, but I took my effort into making this so I hope you’ll like it.” I said as I hand him a bag.

Raymond dug inside the bag and took out a sweater “Wow, a very nice sweater.”

“I didn’t just buy it but I made it with my own hands.” I told him “So you better not abandon it like your other sweaters.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Raymond replied “I’ll wear it everyday until it stinks and I won’t ever take it off unless I have your permission.”

I laughed “That is not necessary. I wouldn’t want to be around a stinky person.”

“But seriously, I won’t abandon it because you made it especially for me. I’ll keep it inside my closet where no one can take it.” Raymond said.

“Good.” I replied with a smile.

“Thanks for the present Qian, and happy one month anniversary.” Raymond said as he reached over and hugged me.

“Happy one month anniversary.” I replied as I hugged him back.

Oh what a perfect night, but it was interrupted by Raymond’s cell phone. Sigh, nothing is perfect you know…

“Sorry.” Raymond apologized as we both let go of each other. Raymond then answered his phone call. “Hello? Shirley? Hey! Haven’t talked to you in awhile, how have you been? I’m doing pretty well myself. What, you’re in Hong Kong??! When was that? Oh my god, why didn’t you tell me to pick you up or something? I’m your only friend here in Hong Kong anyways. ….Oh yeah sure, I’ll see you then, bye.”

Well obviously it was a girl that Raymond’s talking to. Hmmm…the name Shirley sounds very familiar.

“Who is that?” I asked curiously.

“Shirley.” Raymond replies “Shirley Yeung, remember?”

“Ohhh…I remember now.” I replied “Your ex ex ex girlfriend right?”

“Yeah, she’s in Hong Kong right now.” Raymond replies “And she’s asked me to go and have a drink with her since she hasn’t seen me in years.”

“Oh.” I replied, not knowing what else to say.

“You want to go with me?” Raymond asked.

I do want to go with him, but then again that would make me look like I’m jealous. That’s not good, and besides, I trust Raymond. I know he won’t do anything to hurt me. And I also want him to know that I have trust in him, guys like it when their girlfriends are not too attach and let them have their own personal times.

“Actually, I’m a bit tired, you go ahead without me.” I answered

“Don’t worry; we’re just having a drink, that’s all. I hope you won’t get jealous or anything.” Raymond said.

I smiled at him “I’m not going to be jealous; if I am then I wouldn’t let you go already. I trust you.”

Raymond smiled back “I’m so glad to have such an understanding girlfriend as you.”

“Alright, you told me that many times already. Now can you drive me home?” I asked him.

Raymond then drove me home and helped me carry all the flowers up to my apartment.

“Alright, I’ll be going now.” Raymond said as he was standing at the front door.

“Okay, drive safely. Call me when you get home.” I said

“I will.” Raymond responded as he gave me a kiss on the forehead. He then went down the elevators; I didn’t go inside until I see no sight of him.

++Raymond’s POV

Although Qian said that she’s not jealous, but I have a feeling that she’s worried. Sigh, I really didn’t want to leave her on our one month anniversary, but Shirley begged me to go out and have a drink with her. Besides, she only comes to Hong Kong once every several years.

When I got to the bar, I went around looking for Shirley. The place was pact with people; I didn’t know where to start looking. Then suddenly I heard someone calling out my name, I looked around to see who’s calling my name. I finally saw Shirley; she was at the table near the corner, with her arm waving at me. I then walked up to her, and as I got closer I suddenly recognized her. She didn’t change much, except for her hair, it’s much longer than the last time I saw it, and she looks a lot mature.

“Raymond!” Shirley shouts happily as she tip toed up to me and gave me a big hug.

I hugged her back “Hey, how are you?”

Shirley then lets go of the hug and we both sat down. “I’m good I guess.”

“Wow, you look so professional now with your new look.” I commented.

“Did I change that much after three years?” Shirley asked

“Not much, it’s just your long hair and mature look.” I replied

“Mature?” Shirley asked laughing “Wait till another five years.”

“Well even though you changed physically, but your personality is still the same.” I commented.

“Yeah.” Shirley replied “I would say that you are more mature than I am, a lot more after the last time I saw you.”

“Really?” I asked in disbelief “I guess my current girlfriend has changed me a lot.”

“You have a girlfriend now?” Shirley asked “Well that was a dumb question; of course you should have a girlfriend now! A guy like you should have a girlfriend.”

I laughed at her silliness “Yeah, and what about you? I bet you have plenty of boyfriends too.”

“Don’t talk about him.” Shirley replied angrily “We’re kind of on a break right now.”

“Oh.” I replied shockingly “Sorry to hear that.”

Shirley sighed then said “Reason why I came to Hong Kong is to avoid him, he pissed me off so much that I don’t even want to see his face. And ever since I left, he didn’t even bother to call me or anything!”

“I can tell that you still love him, that’s why you’re so concerned when he didn’t call you.” I stated “Don’t worry; if he loves you then he’ll know when to call you, and when he knows your missing, he’ll go look for you.”
“He’s really stupid; he wouldn’t even notice that I’m missing.” Shirley replied.

“Just give him some time.” I suggested.

“Thanks Raymond, you’re such a great guy.” Shirley commented. “Your girlfriend must be the luckiest person on earth.”

I laughed “Don’t think so highly of me, I’m not that great as you think I am.”

“Yes you are, I can tell.” Shirley responds “Anyways, you’ll show me around Hong Kong now won’t you?”

“Sure.” I replied “What do you think of Hong Kong now? Isn’t it a lot better than three years ago?”

“Oh yeah.” Shirley replied “It’s like a completely new place. It has a lot more fun places to go now.”

“Yeah, I’ll take you around someday.” I said “By the way, how long are you staying?”

“I don’t know…” Shirley replied “As long as I want to. I want to see how my boyfriend can stand it when I’m not around him, he will so regret it if he knows that I’m in Hong Kong.”

“Alright.” I replied.

++Ron’s POV

“I want you to come with me to New York.” I said to Leila while we’re at her house having this discussion.

“Why?” Leila asked with an odd face on.

“There are two reasons why.” I replied “First reason is that I have school, I need to go back for it and I also want you to come with me. I don’t want to be apart from you. Hong Kong and New York are so far from each other, I can’t bear to leave you here. And second reason is that I have a friend who’s a psychologist over there and I think he can help you with your sickness.”

“How long do I have to stay there?” Leila asked.

“For as long as you need to.” I replied “You need to cure this sickness of yours. If we keep on dragging on like this then you’ll never be cured.”

“I know.” Leila responded “But I don’t want to leave Hong Kong.”

“Don’t worry, I promise you that whenever you want to come back here, I’ll go with you.” I said “New York is a very good place to be at, trust me.”

Leila is speechless, I know that she’s still debating weather or not to go with me to New York. I can understand that she doesn’t want to leave her home, but she has to think of her sickness, think of me…if she decides not to go, then I wouldn’t know what else to do.

“You bear to leave me go like that?” I suddenly asked

Leila then looked at me again, her two hands touching my face “No, of course not. I never want to separate from you Ron. It’s just I’m afraid that I won’t get use to the new living there, and everything will be so different…”

I took my hand and placed it on her hand, which is still on my face “Don’t worry; you will get use to it. I’ll provide the best things for you when we get there, and soon you won’t be sick anymore and we can return to Hong Kong. And if you want to stay in Hong Kong forever, I will stay with you too. I can even leave New York and stay with you.”

“You would really do that?” Leila asked as her eyes grew teary

“I can leave just about everything for you.” I replied “You’re everything to me now, you’re my world.”

Leila then wrapped her arms around me as she cried into my shoulder “I promise to go with you to New York.”

I patted her head “I’m sorry for making you leave Hong Kong, but it’s all for the best. I’ll always be with you though so don’t be scared.”

“I know you will.” Leila answered.
