"Hebe, remember to lock the door when you leave. I’m going to work, take care” exclaimed Hebe’s mother as she slowly slipped her delicate feet into her heels.
"What! You’re leaving so early again? Mum, you got home at eleven last night and you’re not getting any time off today. What kind of boss do you have?” complained Hebe running out of the bathroom with her toothbrush in her hand, her mouth filled with toothpaste.
"I know he’s horrible but that’s what happens when you need money darling and don’t you get any of those bubbles you have on the floor. I’ve got enough things to do and I certainly do not need to add anything to the list.”
"Fine mum, what’s gotten into you lately? You’ve became so naggy!” teased Hebe, giggling when her mum made a face.
"Believe me, I can get worse. I really need to get going sweetheart and I’m coming home early so you don’t need to eat alone tonight. Happy? After all you’ve been complaining so long about not having enough family time” smiled her mum.
"Yes, finally. Sometimes I wonder if your boss has a crush on you. He keeps you in nearly every night.”
"Correction, my boss’s a she.”
"Oh that’s worse, a lesbian.”
Hebe’s mum erupted into a fit of laughter and stretched her arms out. “Come here darling, give me a hug!” Hebe’s eyes lit up and gave her mum a tight hug before biding her good bye. Closing the door, she made her way back into the bathroom thinking there cannot be a better mother in this world. She’s perfect, too perfect. No wonder her mobile always rings. I bet there are millions of guys courting her, she thought.
Rinsing her mouth with clean water, Hebe brushed her hair and tied it up into a pony tail. Feeling all fresh and clean, she slipped into her blue and white uniform anticipating for the coming day. “I have a feeling it’s going to be an awesome day” she said to herself, grinning from ear to ear. Hebe looked at the clock and picked up her bag, putting on her shoes and dashed for the door. She stopped abruptly, her face unreadable. Quickly she turned around and ran back to her room, straight towards her desk.
"Nearly forgot about you” giggled Hebe picking up a piece of laminated paper. Laminated along with the paper was a band-aid. A used band-aid which was the most precious thing to her ever since her father passed away.
-FLASHBACK-
Hebe gasped as she fell down, tumbling onto the wet ground. She looked at her wounded knee and tears began forming. She cried and cried but the reason was not because of her injury but the death of her father. Someone she respected and needed. Taking the wound as an excuse, she let herself pour her emotions out, let her sadness overcome her promise not to cry.
None of the adults who walked past gave her help or comfort. No one cares about me, she thought but this moment did not last long. A pair of warm hands rested on her shoulders. She turned around and in front of her was a boy, around her age. He bent down and bandaged her knee.
He gave her a toothy grin and said, “The person you are crying for does not deserve your tears because the people that do will never let you cry.”
After those words he turned around and walked away but before leaving her alone he turned around and gave her a wave, his way of saying goodbye. His smile was filled with happiness and care. Without realizing, a smile formed on Hebe’s lips.

Hebe sighed peacefully and pulled the bandage towards her chest. “When will I meet you again?” she asked not expecting an answer. Through the past fourteen years, she’s been craving for fate to bring her to him again but none of her pleas were answered. However, she has not given up nor does she ever plan to.
"One day, I’ll meet you again even if we look different from fourteen years ago, I’ll know it’s you”.
Glancing at her clock again, she gasped as she realized how late she was running. Darting for the door she absent mindedly opened it and ran straight out, switching on the automatic lock for the door. The door slammed shut and clicked, a sign that it was locked. Hebe turned around the corner, her head down low causing her to run straight into a stranger.
She gave a yelp of pain as her shoulder clashed onto the stranger’s chest. Hebe looked up and found herself staring at an unreasonably handsome boy. He wasn’t smiling and his eyes were filled with coldness that made her feel they were planets apart when he was just right next to her.
"I’m sorry” apologized Hebe finally blinking.
The young man didn’t answer or smile but turned away, leaving her with oddness she cannot describe. Hebe can be sure there was something in his eyes that she couldn’t identify. The look he gave her, it seemed to have more meaning than just a look.
"Oh crap!” she blurted remembering she was late for school. Panicking, she picked up her pace and made her way to the bus stop. “Damn it, I hope the bus is late today” she said to herself but knowing it was highly impossible for this bus to ever be late. It has never been.
As the bus stop came to sight, she watched her bus take off, entirely forgetting about her.
"Wait” Hebe panted, her voice dry, “Wait…”
Unfortunately, the bus driver did not hear her pleas and left her in a mess. She groaned and observed her watch only to find it missing. “Are you kidding me?” she asked herself, “I must’ve dropped it when I bumped into that boy.”
She sprinted back to her house in a hurry. The watch was another precious item to Hebe. It was given to her as a birthday present from her mother. Since the day her father died, they have been experiencing financial problems and receiving a birthday present wasn’t an every year thing. She searched the pathways but it was nowhere to be seen.
Finally arriving to the area where she bumped into the young man she saw it around the corner. “Ha! Gotcha!” giggled Hebe, pouncing on it. Brushing off the dirt, she once again wrapped it around her thin wrist and gave it a pat.
Looking up with a smile she was shocked to see the front door of her house opened. The smile disappeared from her face as she slowly got up and edged closer. Mum will never be home at this time of the day or come back for anything even if it’s her wallet, she thought. Her heart pounded against her chest. She clutched onto her bag and pushed open the door to find the place dark and quiet.
"Mum?” she yelled. No answer. Her hand started trembling. “Mum?” she repeated. Stepping into the house she walked towards the kitchen as slowly as possible. Her eyes scanned around the place to check if anything was missing or broken. Everything was in place. If it was a robber, he or she is certainly skilled.
Just as she was about to relax, a gust of wind blew behind her followed by the loud slam of the front door. Hebe turned around quickly, pulling the door open just to find the driveway empty. “It had to be someone” she confirmed to herself. No wind will be able to close that door in such a short moment of time.
There was someone in the house with her before, this she was sure about but the question is why?
What on earth was this intruder doing in their house?
