I had always wondered about that in my early days. When I asked my mother
about it, she would often give me some kind of balooney answer to shut me up. I
was indeed an adolescent full of curiosity and zeal.
But when I met "her", I found the answer to my non ceasing query.
The quencher of my everlasting thirst laid in "her"...... her eyes.]

Part 1
[LiRa Private Elementary, 3rd grade]
"Class, we have a new student today."
HaNeul could literally feel the snickering looks she received from the bunch of
third graders in the high society. Even the teacher seemed to ridicule her on her
common clothing and her not-fully-instilled mannerisms of how a girl in the high
class should be.
"This is LeeHaNeul, she just moved to Seoul from America couple weeks ago.
HaNeul, go take a seat next to that gentleman over there."
HaNeul felt relieved that her teacher didn't ask her to introduce herself in front of
the class; that would just be an added embarrassment because she had a mild
case of agoraphobia due to her intense shyness.
She went over to take a seat as instructed, next to a boy. She quietly set her
stuff down and took a seat.
"Okay now, let's have these people come up here and solve the equations:
MinJuHee, JungYoungMi, KangTa, LeeSoHyun, and MoonHeeJun."
When the last name was called, the boy sitting next to HaNeul stood up and
walked to the front of the classroom. He scribbled something down at a great
speed, while the other four were still struggling. He put a victorious smile on his
face as he walked back to his seat and sat down.
HaNeul blinked her eyes, trying to comprehend the math equation that was just
given. There was no way she could follow along, for she barely got past
fundamental math back in the States.
"Umm.... can I see your notebook for a second? I don't think I learned this yet."
She asked Heejun politely in a timid manner. He glanced at her, took his
notebook out, and handed it to her.
"Thanks."
She said, being grateful for what he had just done. But the next words HeeJun
uttered came to her as a shock.
"Next time, just tell me you want to copy off of it, I've seen too many copycats
like you."
HaNeul blinked her eyes several times, doubting her ears of such hostility that
was just shown. Copycat? Was he implying that she merely wanted to leech off
of him?
The bell rang.
"Okay, class! Good job, HeeJun, you are the only one who got this problem
right. Class dismissed."
HeeJun packed his stuff rapidly and stood up.
"Umm.... here...."
HaNeul stuttered as she extended her hand toward him. In her hand was his
notebook that she didn't get to take a look at. But he just glanced at it and
started heading out, leaving her in bewilderment.
One of HeeJun's buddies who was in front of the class doing the problem
approached him. He was slightly taller than HeeJun.
"Hey, how did you do that? I couldn't figure it out at all!"
"It was easy, you need to pay more attention in class, KangTa. Let's go."
They started heading to the exit, until HaNeul barely managed stop him.
"Uh... your notebook..?"
KangTa looked at her, then at HeeJun, with curious eyes. HeeJun stood there
with a frown on his face, which made KangTa even more curious.
"You can have it, I don't want it back," said HeeJun coldly. He turned around and
grabbed KangTa's right arm, and started walking fast.
HaNeul stood there, once again in deep shock. She sighed and went back to her
seat to pack her stuff and headed out to cafeteria.
"Hey, what did you do that for? That was mean!" KangTa asked HeeJun, half out
of curiosity and half scoldingly. HeeJun frowned once again.
"Didn't you see that clothes she was wearing? It looked so ragged! I can't
believe they let someone like her into this school, I'm so ashamed! I was afraid
her dirty germs were all over my notebook, so that's why I didn't take it back.
Eww... I have to sit next to her now, that sucks!"
KangTa just shrugged at HeeJun's response. This wasn't the first time anyway,
so why should he care? But that girl... she looked so embarrassed when HeeJun
told her that. How sad.....
When HaNeul reached cafeteria, the place was already packed with bunch of
kids, ranging from kindergarteners to 6th grade. She didn't know where to sit,
since people didn't seem to be so inviting, as shown earlier in the classroom with
HeeJun. She searched for a while until her eyes landed on the perfect spot in
the corner, where the table was vacant. She scampered over to the corner and
sat down at that table.
Suddenly, the whole cafeteria silenced. The next moment, all the eyes were
fixed on HaNeul, who took out her lunch and gobbled on it gleefully. Kids started
whispering amongst themselves, until HaNeul finally realized the quietness of
the atmosphere. She looked up.
'What's going on?' she pondered. 'Is there something on my face?'
"Oooh~ you're gonna get in trouble!" One of the kids yelled. Others nodded in
unison.
She gulped, trying desperately to figure out what she was doing wrong. But she
couldn't find a reason to be stared at.
Pretty soon, all the eyes that were once gazed on her migrated to the entrance
of cafeteria, where five boys entered as they were carrying out conversations.
They stopped when they saw HaNeul sitting at "their" table.
She recognized two of the five boys instantly, HeeJun and KangTa. Her face lit
up when she saw the tallest boy of the gang.
"Jae..."
She waved at the tall boy, but he turned away and purposely ignored her. She
blushed in an embarrassment, feeling nothing but complete dejection.
The boys walked toward her, in a behavior far from amiable. One boy who
seemed particularly rebellious stopped right in front of where she was sitting at
and placed his hands on his hips and started shouting.
"Why are you sitting here? This is OUR table! Haven't you heard of the BIG 5?"
"Just leave her alone, WooHyuk. She's new," said KangTa.
HaNeul remained in her chair, in a complete confusion and fright. BIG 5? What
was that? Of course she had no idea that it was a 'click' consisting of 5 richest
kids who attended LiRa, namely MoonHeeJun as the leader, then
JangWooHyuk, Tony An, KangTa, and LeeJaeWon.
"JaeWon, did I do something wrong? Dad said...." HaNeul murmured and called
JaeWon for helpful words, but he continued to ignore her. His face was starting
to blush heavily too.
"What, JaeWon ah, you know her? Tell her to get out of our seat!" WooHyuk
yelled.
HaNeul cringed when WooHyuk roared at her. He did not seem like a happy
boy. HeeJun crossed his arms and sneered in skepticism, while Tony and
KangTa just exchanged glances. JaeWon just stood there.
"WooHyuk, let's just go sit somewhere today... you're being mean," said KangTa
softly.
"NO! I want this table! So get out!" WooHyuk hollered, and with that, he violently
pushed HaNeul out of her seat.
"Oww..." HaNeul let out a yelp as she fell onto the ground. She was faced with
more humiliation as she realized that the roomful of kids were watching her.
She got the message that she didn't belong to that table, so she tried to stand up
when she noticed that her contact lens had just popped out of her eyes.
"Aww... where are they?" she whispered in panick as she got on her hands and
knees to search for them. She was practically crawling like a dog, which
intensified JaeWon's embarrassment.
"Go already! What are you still doing there?" WooHyuk yelled and crossed his
arms.
"My lens... I have to find them..."
Despite the degrading situation, she needed to find them.
"Here, lemme help you...." KangTa got on his hands and knees as well as he
started rubbing the floor. "Can you not see at all?"
"No... I can see well... it's just that..."
HaNeul trailed off when she felt something sticky beneath her palm. "Found it!"
She lifted her head in joy and held the lens in the air.
"OH!" KangTa let out an exclaim which surprised everyone in the cafeteria.
"You...you have blue eyes!!"
