Xiao Xun came home crying.
Ya Tou: Xiao Xun, what happen? (Hugging Xiao Xun tightly, but received no replies.) Look, I already have one crying in her room, I don’t need another one, okay? Tell me what’s wrong?
Xiao Xun: (crying) My…parents…engaged me…to someone…I don’t even…KNOW!
Ya Tou: WHAT?! Did you try talking to them? (worrying)
Xiao Xun: I did, but they won’t listen to me. ( her hand slowly came up to her right cheek) [Her Thoughts] This is the first time my father slapped me.
Gui Gui walked out from her room crying, followed by Sofia. Xiao Xun and Gui Gui held hands and pulled each other in for a hug. Ya Tou and Sofia hugged them both to keep comfort.
Gui Gui: Xiao Xun, don’t worry, I’ll talk to your parents. ( the girls sat in the living room on the couch)
Xiao Xun: NO! (freaking out) Don’t. If you do that, my parents will be mad.
Gui Gui: Are you going to let your parents continue controlling your life? (mad) You must take a stand, like I am. (stood up from her seat clenching her fists in front of her)
Xiao Xun: (confused) What?
Gui Gui: To tell you girls the truth, I…ran away from home.
Ya Tou and Xiao Xun: (shocked) WHAT?!
Gui Gui: The only person who knows about this is Sofia.
Ya Tou: You know, ever since Xiao Xun and I met you, we know nothing about you. You have a lot of explanations to do.
Gui Gui: Well, where do you want me to start?
Ya Tou: Of course, from the beginning. (demanding)
Gui Gui told the story of her life from the beginning to her most recent incident. Each girls talked about their life and soon enough it was nine p.m. Sofia went home and the girls headed for bed. Xiao Xun couldn‘t sleep, she laid there pondering who her future husband was. She then remembered that her father was about to tell her what his name was, but she ran away in frustration before she could hear his name.
The next morning.
Gui Gui walk into the kitchen, settled down and started eating. Ya Tou finished cooking and was about to eat breakfast until Gui Gui questioned her.
Gui Gui: Hey, where’s Xiao Xun? Doesn’t she have class today? (stop eating )
Ya Tou: Yeah. She said she doesn’t want to eat and wants to be left alone. She went on ahead of us. (eating, stared at Gui Gui)
Gui Gui: What? (talks with her mouth full)
Ya Tou: Nothing. It’s just hard to imagine that you’re a rich man’s granddaughter. He OWNS The Golden Star Hotel.
Gui Gui: Ya Tou, I’m the same Gui Gui you know. Okay, what about you? You’re the daughter of Taiwan’s well known doctors, Miss Yako Zhan Ya Wen.
Ya Tou: Hey, I still can’t believe you’re Even Wu Ying Jie. That’s all.
Ya Tou and Gui Gui finished breakfast and walked to school together. On the other hand, Xiao Xun was in a deep thought and ended up bumping into someone.
Xiao Xun: I’m so sorry. (she continued apologizing, when she looked up, she was shocked to see that it was the guy she has been crushing on ever since she came to NTU) I’m…really…sorry Wang Zi.
Wang Zi: It’s ok, what about you? Did I hurt you?
Xiao Xun: No, I’m ok. (happy to see him, this made her forget about her engagement ) Thanks for asking. ( Wang Zi just smile)
Wang Zi: Do…you want to walk to school together? (Xiao Xun quickly nodded, with that, they walked to school in silence.)
Xiao Xun: [her thoughts] Why won’t he saying anything? Does he want me to talk first? I can’t take this silence anymore, I have to do something. ( before she could talk to him, he spoke making her very happy)
Wang Zi: I have something to say to you, it’s really important. (silence again) [his thoughts] I have to tell her otherwise I‘ll regret it. ( He was about to say something until someone interrupted them calling out to her.)
Xiao Xun: Excuse me, Ya Tou, Gui Gui. ( the girls jogging towards her, she turned around facing her crush again.) What is it that you wanted to tell me? ( Wang Zi shook his head smiling.)
Wang Zi: Well, it’s important. But, I’ll tell you during lunch okay? Meet me behind campus where all the big trees are. Bye. ( he left, she wanted to tell him that she has been crushing on him, but that will have to wait.)
During lunch time, Xiao Xun hurried and rushed towards the canteen, passing her friends.
Gui Gui: Hey, where are you going?! (yelling out to Xiao Xun)
Xiao Xun: (walking backward) You girls go ahead without me. I’ll meet up with you later. ( started sprinting to her meeting place with Wang Zi again. He was waiting for her.) Sorry, I didn’t mean to be late.
Wang Zi: No, you’re not late. I’m just early because I don’t want to missed the chance to tell you… that I ( started to get nerves) hang on. ( turned his back towards her trying to calm down) Xiao Xun, I’m in…
Wang Zi couldn’t say it. Someone interrupted him again. This time, it was his buddies. They all rushed over and started pulling him away, apparently it was something urgent that they had to borrow him for a moment. They said that they returned him as soon as they’re done. Xiao Xun, disappointed, slowly heading back to the canteen. She wanted to confess her feelings before she goes off marrying someone she doesn’t know. Coincidently, someone caught her attention which made her very furious.
Aaron Yan: What do you want? (speaking rudely, not paying attention to her)
Xiao Xun: I want you to go apologize to Gui. She didn’t do anything, she just wanted to be your friend. How can you be so rude to her? (mad)
Aaron Yan: (coldly) Look. If you just got dumped by your boyfriend, don’t come over here and release your anger on me. Whatever happened between Gui and I, has nothing to do with you. ( talking to her while trying to read) (Xiao Xun didn’t reply, but instead she stomped away angrily) ( Aaron slowly closed his book, stared up into the blue sky, closed his eyes and inhale and exhale slowly.) So quiet. ( opening his eyes, he reached into his pocket pulling out the key chain that Gui Gui had gave him.)
Xiao Xun walked slowly crying. Gui Gui and Ya Tou ran to comfort her as they saw her emotionally breaking down.
Ya Tou: Don’t worrying, just let it out. We’re here for you.
June, a month has passed by and Xiao Xun slowly recovered. In her heart had only one guy. She hasn’t even been to her parents home either, she opposed her parents arranging her to a marriage. The girls didn’t have class and doesn’t work today, so they invited Sofia over to hang out. It was 12:00noon, the girls spent there time in the living room eating popcorn and watched a movie together. Their fun time was short lived due to the door bell ringing. Xiao Xun stood up to open the door, unfortunately for her, it was her father. She was force to leave with her father, she struggled and screamed for help when her father‘s guards tried to drag her away. Her friends tried to help her, but the guards held them back.
Gui Gui: ( screaming) XIAO XUN! YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO HER!!
Mr. Huang: (mad) I’M HER FATHER. ( The girls became quiet as they watched their friend step into the car )
Sofia: So, what now?
Gui Gui: There’s only one way we can solve this. ( Ya Tou and Sofia looked at her confused)
The maid was helping Xiao Xun get ready. Everything was ready, the only thing left was for her to get dressed, but she refused. Her father walk in.
Mr. Huang: Jin Yi, what are you doing?! (mad)
Xiao Xun: I’m not going on this stupid meeting. ( crying)
Mr. Huang: (angry voice) Fine, you have two options, either go on this meeting or move out of that stupid apartment. I never did like the idea of you moving out anyways.
Xiao Xun: ( crying) Then why did you let me?
Mr. Huang: (angry) I DID BECAUSE YOUR MOM ASKED ME TO! SO CHOOSE, MOVE OUT OR GO TO THIS MEETING!
Mrs. Huang: ENOUGH! (standing by the door) I’ll talk to her, go get yourself ready. Mr. Huang just walked out angrily, Mrs. Huang walked over and held her crying daughter.
An hour early, Xiao Xun and her parents arrived at the Gold Star Hotel. They waited patiently in one of the private room in silence, Xiao Xun stood up, about to leave until her father stopped her.
Mr. Huang: (angry voice) Where are you going? (stood from his seat)
Xiao Xun: I can’t even use the ladies room? ( glaring at her father. He nodded, but sent his men to follow her.)
Xiao Xun walked to the ladies room as the two guards stood near the entrance, waiting. A few minutes later, a woman walked out dressed in sporting clothes with a cap on headed for the hotel exit. Though, she ended up getting caught by Mr. Huang.
Mr. Huang: Albee Huang Jin Yi (mad) Do you think I’m that stupid? (Xiao Xun, terrified when he caught her.)
Xiao Xun: Dad? ( softly spoke)
Gui Gui, dressed in Xiao Xun’s dress and heels, couldn’t take this any longer, marched right over to Xiao Xun. She pulled her behind and stood as a shield. Wu Chun - who brought the student counsels to show them around the hotel - Danson Tang, Ella Chen, Genie Zhou, Hebe Tian, Mike He and last, but not least, Aaron Yan walked in from the hotel’s entrance. Surprisingly, Grandpa Wu was there too, accompanied by Alfred.
Mr. Huang: Young lady, I advise you to move. ( demanding)
Gui Gui: No, not until you cancel Xiao Xun’s arranged marriage. ( stood up for her friend)
Sofia and Ya Tou, were told - by Gui Gui - to take Xiao Xun away, but Mr. Huang’s men stopped them.
Mr. Huang: Young lady, you don’t know what you’re doing. (mad) This is the Huang’s family business, it has nothing to do with you. Stop all this nonsense!
Gui Gui: Mr. Huang, I don’t want to be rude, but this is not what your daughter wants. She wants to marry a person who would love her for who she is, not for her money and reputation. You, her father and as a father, should understand what your daughter wants, needs, AND deserves. Unless…you’re just like many other parents in this world. You all are basically just selling your children out just for the sake of money and reputation.
The moment Gui Gui said that, Mr. Huang right hand went flying across Gui Gui’s face. Having to witness his sister get hit, Chun wanted to punch that man, but Grandpa Wu stopped him.
Wu Chun: (mad) Grandpa?!
Grandpa Wu: (calm) She needs to learn her lesson for not listening to her elders.
Mr. Huang: DIDN’T YOUR PARENTS TEACH YOU ANY MANNERS WHEN SPEAKING TO AN ADULT?! Go home and tell them what kind of daughter they are raising, if you don’t, I’ll do it for you.
Only when Mr. Huang insulted Gui Gui and her parents, Grandpa Wu wasn’t calm anymore. He was about to walk over, but Wu Chun stopped him. Chun knows that if his sister is tough enough to run away from home, then there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
Grandpa Wu: What? (mad)
Everyone in the lobby stood quietly watching.
Gui Gui: (Her face was emotionless. She felt pain, but at this point nothing bothers her.) Mr. Huang, it’s sad, but to let you know. How I am and the way that I am today…is because maybe they weren’t around to raise me properly. My parents have long left this world. Cruel, isn’t it? Leaving a seven years old child all alone in this world. ( suddenly someone interrupted them)
Person: Excuse me.
Xiao Xun: Wang Zi? (surprised)
Wang Zi gave her a smile and gently took a hold of Xiao Xun’s hand.
Wang Zi: Mr. Huang, I want to cancel this arranged marriage. ( with that said, his parents and Xiao Xun’s parents started freaking out) Wait, please, let me finish. What I’m trying to say is, I, Prince Qiu Sheng Yi ( held both her hands) want to ask Miss Albee Huang Jin Yi ( turn to face Xiao Xun with a charming smile) permission to date you before this marriage.
Xiao Xun: I… ( her tears started to form, thinking how this is all possible. Wondering if she’s dreaming.)
Wang Zi: If you’re thinking this is a dream, it’s not. It’s real and I’m not going take ‘no’ for an answer.
He wiped away her tears. Xiao Xun slowly nodded her head, telling him she agrees. He pulled her into a hug and everyone was happy for them, plus their parents doesn’t seem angered by their decision. Xiao Xun pulled away from the hug and looked at Wang Zi.
Xiao Xun: Wang Zi, I want you to meet someone. If it wasn’t for her, I would have the guts to stand up for myself. Because of her, I learned to love someone so dearly, so much that you would give up everything and anything for that person. ( Xiao Xun smile ) Gui Gui…
where’s Gui? ( looking at Ya Tou and Sofia)
Ya Tou: Gui? … Wait. What? Where is she? Mr. Huang, where’s Gui? Wasn’t she standing right next to you? ( Mr. Huang look at the girls with a blankly)
Xiao Xun: Dad, how could you say such things to her?! She has no parents! (angry at her dad)
Mrs. Huang: Honey, don’t blame your dad. He tends to lose his temper and doesn’t know what he’s doing sometimes.
Mr. Huang: (stared at his wife wide-eyed) What are you talking about? I didn’t know her parents died…
Sofia: Enough, let’s go look for her before she does something crazy.
Wang Zi offered to helped, so he and Xiao Xun went together. Ya Tou and Sofia searched together and Wu Chun told Grandpa Wu not to worry. Chun, himself, went looking for her. Still, Grandpa worried. He even told Alfred to send people out to find her. Danson and the others decided to split up too, but Aaron went missing.
Danson Tang: Where did Aaron go? Aaron? (looking around) Forget it, let’s go.
Ella worried about her brother. She tried looking around for him, but Genie pulled her away.
Gui Gui, who was walking around had nowhere to go. She stopped when realizing she was at the park. There, she saw families, playing games and having fun. Lovers enjoying each others’ presence, and kids running around energetically. She sat at one of the benches, thinking about her life a couple of years ago. Her classmate always talking about her, judging her. She was nothing without her parents. No name, no power. It didn’t matter, her brother and Grandpa Wu were always there to cheer her up. Aaron, who followed Gui Gui from the hotel, came over and settled next to her. She was surprised to see him, but wanted to be alone. She started to remember when he called her an annoyance.
Gui Gui: What do you want? ( getting mad ) Why don’t you just leave? I just want to be alone. ( Aaron didn’t listen, he just sat there with his eyes closed) Fine, I’ll leave. ( before she could walk away, he pulled her back) Let go of me.
Aaron didn’t say anything, but looked at her. He placed a handkerchief in her right hand and walked away, but then came to a stop. Hands in his pockets with his back facing her.
Aaron Yan: A pretty girl like you shouldn’t cry. Smile. Oh and I don’t think I owe you anything.
Gui Gui: What are you talking about? ( confused) ( Aaron slipped his right hand out of his pocket with something dangling on his wrist) The Friendship Key Chain? I thought you threw it away?
Aaron Yan: There are things that are too important to throw away. ( she stopped him from walking away)
Gui Gui: ( happy ) Hey, your handkerchief.
Aaron Yan: (cold voice) Keep it, it’s a little return gift from me. ( walked away before she gets a chance to bug him again)
Gui Gui watched him leave until he disappeared from her sights.
Gui Gui: [her thoughts] I can’t believe he actually showed me his good side. (smiles) Oh my god, I have to tell the girls.
She dug out her cell from her purse, about to turn it on until she heard someone scream her name.
Person: GUI GUI!
Gui Gui: (spots the person) Big Brother….CHUNNIE! OVER HERE! (Wu Chun ran straight to her. He grabbed her and held her tightly in his arms.) Chun…nie, I can’t… breath, let…go…of me…! (Wu Chun finally loosen up.)
Wu Chun: ( mad) Where did you go? Everyone was worried sick about you! Did you know you almost gave Grandpa a heart attack?
Gui Gui: (smiled) Big brother, don’t worry. If someone attack me, I’m sure Aaron wouldn’t let that happen. (She looked at handkerchief with a big smile on her face)
Wu Chun: What? He was here? (Gui Gui nodded) That idiot, he could at least tell us. And you, don’t run off again. (Narrowing his eyebrows) Come on, let‘s go back. Oh call grandpa, let him know that you’re safe. I’ll call my friends.
It’s been half a month. Xiao Xun and Wang Zi have been dating each other and they’re inseparable. Gui Gui who tried to stay away from Aaron because she didn’t want to destroy their friendship again. She’s patiently waiting for him to open up to her.
A week later.
Gui Gui: Are you going to the club with us tonight?
Xiao Xun: No sorry, I….( Gui cut in)
Gui Gui: “I already have a date with Wang Zi.” Correct? ( Xiao Xun happily nodded, suddenly her cell rang)
Xiao Xun: (answering her call) Hello? Oh Wang Zi, you’re here? Ok, I’ll be down. Bye.
