“Where do you want to go?” Ron asked while he checked the time. It read twelve o’ five.
“I have no idea. Let’s just drive around.” Tavia replied.
And he agreed as he took a turn. Ron didn’t care where it took them. He wanted the night to go on forever, the road bumping along beneath them, the adrenaline slowing their veins, and Tavia as close as possible.
Ron always loved her, spoiled her in everything. Yet he knew that in her heart, there was no space for him. Her heart only stored her childhood lover. For a minute, it hurt to breathe when he thought about his love rival.
“You know, I miss Bosco so much.” He could hear her heartbreaking voice. And he knew the next few seconds; tears will continuously and endlessly stroll down her soft cheeks.
Why can’t she forget Bosco Wong? Didn’t she know how much and how long he had secretly loved her? Ten years ago, a tragedy occurred upon Bosco as his family was killed in a car accident. He became a child without parents and later he moved away. Both Ron and Tavia were informed that Bosco was now fostered with the care of the orphanage community.
Although Bosco’s life was tragic, yet Ron envied his friend. Bosco, Tavia, and Ron were best friends, the three would promise to be there for one another. He and Bosco used to competing each other to win Tavia’s attention. And now even if without Bosco, Ron knew he was already defeated.
Facing her, Ron only knew how to embrace her. Like she always did, Tavia leaned on his shoulder and closed her eyes as each teardrop fell onto his shirt, wetting his body. He never said a word as the darkness seized the night. He passed through the green light and drove up and down of the Hong Kong city as Tavia sat beside him, fallen asleep.

They swung on the swing in silence for a while, watching the midnight sun rose up behind the dark skies. Ruby finally wrapped her arms across his back. Alec had one hand around her waist, and the other was at the back of her head. The feel of her silky hair in his fingers was making his whole arm tingle. He couldn’t resist himself kissing her. There was a humming going on inside his head that turned into a pop and a bang like firecrackers going off.
Dawn had begun and the scene was beautiful in front of their eyes. Ruby snuggled closely next to her husband as she enjoyed the view. Her youthfulness had gone by so quick that she ultimately knew what happiness was. Sharing the half of her life with Alec, Ruby never regretted anything. They had gone through life so much, and she had learned to be thankful for everything she had.
Taking a glance at her husband, Ruby noticed that he didn’t enjoy the sunrise as much as her. He seemed to be worried about something. A smile curled upon her face as she acknowledged his concern.
“Tavia told me that she is with Ron,” She comforted Alec, “don’t worry, Ron will take care of her.”
Alec nodded at her reassurance, however, his uneasiness remained, “I know, but it’s almost morning and she has gone all night long. How can I not worry?”
Ignoring her husband’s anxiety, Ruby looked up at the sky above. The old feeling came back again and she fought it down. The past was the past and she promised herself not to dig up any memories that might hurt her soul and might even ruin her marriage with Alec.

Rain giggled when she woke up the next morning. She actually rolled over and giggled about it all. It felt that good to be alive. Her legs were sore from running pell-mell through the East Village next to Bosco. He’d even let her borrow his jacket to sneak into the orphan house. She could still smell him on her arms. Okay, true confession? She slept in it. She didn’t want to take if off and have the night end.
Although living in an orphanage, Rain was never miserable in her life. With Bosco by her side, Rain only knew the affection of friendship. She never tasted the love from her parents or families. Either way, she didn’t care. Meeting Bosco ten years ago at Mercy Orphanage, she finally found someone to be with and that all it mattered.
Many years back, a rich family adopted Bosco. Although he was separated from her and Rain still lived in the orphanage house, he often came and visited her. How much Rain had appreciated his generosity. Sometimes she wondered if he could love her or only treat her as a younger sister.
Her heart reached out to him as she reminisced the time when he revealed about his family’s misfortune. At that time, Rain had rolled over and planted her elbow on a floor cushion and laid her head against his.
“It doesn’t seem fair, does it?” Bosco’s instant understanding had surprised Rain. She had never met her parents or acknowledged their existences. Rain had stared at him, urging him to continue.
“Some people have wondered the same things, Rain? Why did both my parents die? Why not anyone else, but only I have to suffer?” The pain, the anger in his voice penetrated through her soul. She had then realized that she was luckier than him, it was better to not know her parents than to know that they were dead. His confession had made her fall for him harder.

“Oh, Jimmy, I’ll miss you so much while we’re apart.” Ruby said.
“I hope so. I’d hate to think you might find someone else while you’re away going back to celebrate New Year with your family in Hong Kong.”
________
“You’re not less a person if you do, Tavia. It’s not something to be ashamed of. Everybody feels guilty because it’s not happened to him or her but to the person they love. At first, it’s grief because their loved one is in pain, but then it becomes guilt and they blame themselves.”
“Aren’t you scared about losing someone you love so deeply?” Raymond didn’t answer immediately, and Tavia listened to the sounds of the night as she waited.
