Tears gathered in the corners of her eyes as the hard, bitter truth hit her like a ton of bricks. Tavia slowly strolled toward him. Her eyes told him that she had heard everything. Her face revealed nothing but fury and revulsion.
They stared at each other for eternity. Finally, she spoke. “So tell me Bosco, did you ever truly love me or only use me as a way to get revenge at my father?”
He didn’t respond immediately. All of a sudden, Bosco flashed her that wicked grin again, like he did to her father.
“I love you? You have got to be kidding me. You’re the daughter of the monster who had killed my family. You don’t deserve my love!”
When Bosco saw the pain in her eyes, he wanted to embrace her and show her how much he loved her. But he can’t because her father was there. The man Bosco had vowed to punish him no matter whoever or whatever was in the way.
The cruelty of his words stung her. She slapped him. Right in the middle of the room, behind Tavia, her father gasped, shocked by his daughter’s action.
Bosco Wong rubbed his cheek; the one Tavia had soundly slapped when he’d told her he didn’t love her. The slap didn’t hurt him as much as her tears. He knew he was lying. He also saw how much his words had damaged her, still, he didn’t want to give in, and let Alec Su witness it was all just an act, that he truly loved his daughter. No, he had to make the man suffer. Bosco wanted the man to see how he had manipulated Tavia.
Without another word, Tavia wiped off her tears with her hand as she deserted Bosco. She walked past her father. Emotion caught in her throat. Tears stung her eyes. Tavia glanced away, not wanting to face her father until she was totally in control. She swallowed a couple of times, took a deep breath, and turned back around. Then, a lump swelled in her throat, and Tavia couldn’t get the words out.
She was wordless, didn’t know what to say to her father. Tavia ran out of the room before Alec said anything to her. All her angers were spent on Bosco, nothing was left for her father. What her father had done was extremely horrifying, yet Bosco had pretended to love her all this time. His intention was to use her to get through her father.

Rain was awake, but she didn’t open her eyes. She curled up in a fetal ball and closed them tighter. Sleep had always been like a safe death in which she could escape into dreams. But now Rain knew that she would sleep no more. Soon another day would be dawning. She would have to get through it somehow, despite the constant lump in her throat; the fear in her gut; the sad, hopeless thoughts that caused her voice to break and the mist to form in her eyes.
Rain leaned against the wall, tired of pain, tired of being suffered from the reality. Life left her no choice. He had taken the purity from her. Her clothes were torn. She felt disgusted and dirty. Her body was tainted. She was physically and mentally ruined.
He had sucked the life from her like a bee sucks nectar from a flower. Her life was destroyed, Rain acknowledged sadly. And now she was withered inside. The fountain of her energy and creativity had been turned off. She was simply a shell of the Rain Li, she had once been.
…
Upon waking, Ron Ng instantly felt the dull pain in his head. I must have passed out, he thought, feeling dizzy and confused. He struggled to sit up, his fingernails scraping the cold, hard floor. Where am I? He wondered groggily. What happened? He was dimly aware of the chaos whirling around him. People raced past in the night, their footsteps pounding on the outside of the room. There were urgent shouts, and voice chatting in the distance, growing closer.
Few feet away from Ron, a girl was lying in the corner of a room. Ron hardly stood up when he was taken aback that he was nude. Ron then seized a blanket nearby on the bed and covered himself up. Afterward, he took a glimpse of her body. She appeared to be miserable; her eyes exposed feelings of horror and grief.
Ron tried his best to approach her. He wondered what had happened to her and why was he in the same room with this girl. The most important question was why he was naked. Astonishingly, he stopped midway, when she pulled a piece of metal on the dark floor. Fearfully, she held up a straight razor on her wrist.
“Don’t come any closer, if you touch me, I’ll kill myself.” The terror echoed in her voice, and the thought that had never crossed his mind dawned upon him. No! His mind raced and his heart beat quicker. It can’t happen. It was impossible! He hoped he did not rape her.
Yet no matter how hard Ron tried to deny it, the fact was still there. Ron heard her weep, and he feared for her. He can’t think for himself now. What he did was unreasonable and despicable, but he hoped Rain won’t threaten to kill herself.
Ron stepped backward as he didn’t want her to do something stupid that Ron will regret the rest of his life.
“It was my fault,” Ron heard himself say, though the voice didn’t sound like his own; it was flat and bleak, as lifeless as the pain-filled words made him feel. He swallowed past the lump aching in his throat.
___
At first, Tavia’d been in a state of shock. During the ride from the hospital to Raymond’s house, she’d felt completely numb. The depression had set in a short time later, pressing down on Tavia as though she were carrying a ton of granite on her head.
She was so alone and miserable. After countless of times calling Ron, he had never picked up the phone. Tavia realized how terrible she was to treat Ron so cruelly. And now that when she needed him, he won’t be there for her again like he always did.
Now, it was one a.m., in front of Raymond’s house, Tavia rang the bell again. Shivering, she pounded on the door. Still no answer. She tried the handle. To her surprise, it opened. The house was in total darkness, not even a glimmer of a light.
“Hello?” Her voice echoed eerily. “Is anyone here?” She waited, then called out again. Her voice sounded thin and tremble in the dense silence. She felt with her hand along the wall for a light switch, found it, and clicked it on, blinking in the sudden light.
Raymond was lying involuntarily on the sofa, a glass of champagne in his hand. He felt totally drained. Scenes from the conversation with his father hours ago kept flashing through his mind. He remembered the time when Tavia left his office. Raymond didn’t notice that Rain was outside and had heard everything. He had chased after her and she had run into the restroom. When she had come out, her face was red and eyes puffy with tears. But worst of all was the visible hatred on her face.
Raymond squeezed his eyes shut and groaned madly. No matter how much it hurt, his brain kept rehearsing the horror of those final minutes when Rain walked away from him. He knew it was over, he also recognized that she also took his heart with her.
Raymond gulped down the rest of the wine. His eyes turned aside and he saw a beautiful woman stare back at him. She seemed to be astonished and stunned to find him in such state. He could also perceive the reflection of sadness and loneliness in her.
“What are you doing so late at my house?”
Apparently, Tavia ignored his unkindness as she slumped on the loveseat couch. “You don’t mind if I drink with you?” Not waiting for his permission, she grabbed the bottle on the glass table and put the alcohol over her mouth and swallowed it.

Ruby Lin squeezed her eyes shut but the memory remained, seared into her brain like a negative image burned into film. Beside her, she felt Jimmy’s hand slide into her hand, it was nearly cold as her own. She was still infuriated at Rick for taking the baby away from her cruelly. Then, he even had the nerve to tell her that Rain was not alive.
“It’s none of your business to ask us that question. Haven’t you done enough to wreck both of our lives?” Jimmy tried to keep his voice even, knew he wouldn’t succeed.
Jimmy knew he should have appreciated Rick Lam because if not for him, Jimmy would have died years ago and won’t survive. Then he won’t be able to see the love of his life again. Nevertheless, it was also because of Rick, he had to undergo the pain for twenty years.
“It’s none of my business, but I would have to be blind and cruel to let you reunite with Jimmy. Alec has done so much for you, and I don’t want him to get hurt at the end.” The doctor addressed to Ruby. He didn’t want to deal anything with Jimmy Li.
Ruby was silent at his statement, for the mention of the name Alec, the guilt and shame resurfaced in her heart.
“Awhile ago, I was talking to Tavia, and she was concerned for you. Your husband is always there for you, and here you are in the arms of another man?” Rick said angrily, for he knew he had hit the right spot.
He was glad that he didn’t add the part where after Tavia was gone, her other daughter was also at this hospital, and she had heard everything. He needed to find a way to talk to Ruby privately for he didn’t want Ruby to hate him forever once she found out that he had deceived her all this time.
Realizing that Rick’s remark had an influence over Ruby, Jimmy began to panic, because he didn’t want to lose her again.
“Our reunion does not concern you. Because of you, this is how I’ve become, a lifeless person. I have endured the wound you physically inflicted upon me. And it’s time you should stop pretending and face us your true self.”
“Oh, Jimmy, I’m sorry…” Her voice was broken. She moved forward in her wheelchair and reached out to squeeze his hand tighter. And Ruby wept painfully. She had never known this. Her chest was aching. Her throat hurt so much she had trouble getting out the words.
“I have tried to undo all the things I had done, is it not enough?” Rick defended himself. “If Ruby’s parents had not ordered me to kill you, someone else will do the job. If it wasn’t me who helped you, then you would have died already.”
When the doctor heard the utter of disbelief from Ruby, Rick Lam hesitated, reluctant to interfere but unable not to. “Never mind. It’s the past, dead and buried. I don’t know why the hell I brought it up. Right now, I’m worried about the present.”
Out of the blue, the noise of the grand clock stroked at two o’clock. All heads turned around to face the man who entered the garden. They were disrupted by his presence and dazed to find him there. He stood still, with a jacket in his hand, as he stared at the three. It seemed as if they were caught and there was no way to run.
__
It was two in the morning at the Lam’s house, yet it seemed as if the no one was home except for Raymond and Tavia. The twosome had been drinking relentlessly, and they soon became intoxicated and sober. The worst thing that can happen to two heartbreaking people when they were under the influence of alcohol was sex.
…
They were alone and drunk. Their eyes sealed the contract. Tavia and Raymond didn’t need language. They were speaking to each other in tongue more fundamental, in the dialect of desire, in the conversation of bodies. He sank to the floor, and she with him, and they knelt together, facing each other on the carpet.
Raymond threw back his head; his lips moist with her wetness, and his eyes were hooded as he, murmured a soft sound of longing and resentment. He moved against her hand, growing, thrusting, and she tried to protest, attempting to escape from his hunger and rage. Yet, Tavia could feel the heat of him through the cloth that so soon would be a barrier no more as he tore the clothes from her body. Raymond threw his hand from side to side, abandoning himself to ecstasy. His lips were parted and his breath came fast, breaking across her face, bathing her deliciously with its attack and violence.
Tavia felt the desire explode within her. There was something incredibly warming and soothing about Raymond Lam. He seemed to take away all the pains and bitterness she was feeling.
Her mouth was moist with him, but her whole body was wet with her own passion. She was primed for him, as ready as she would ever be, more ready than she had ever been.
“I love you,” Tavia whispered.
“I love you Rain,” he replied. And Tavia ignored his words of affection as she continued kissing him.

“I am supposed to hate you, and if you’re thinking blaming yourself will make my life better, it won’t. Instead, it makes me even more miserable.”
"What kind of man do you think I am? Do you think it's so easy for me to ignore the fact that I commit a crime, to just push you aside because I was drunk and heartbroken and didn’t know what to do?”
