Your eyes fluttered opened as you squinted from the bright light that was hitting your eyes. Your eyes slowly adjusted and you realized you were in a hospital room, on the bed, with a cast on your leg and bandages all over your body. Off to the side, you saw Hyun bin dozing off on the couch.
“Op…pa,” you spoke with all your strength.
Though your voice was soft, Hyun bin started shifting around on the couch until he wearily opened his eyes to see you awake. His eyes widened and he walked over to your bed and smoothed your hair.
“~~~~~~-ah, thank goodness you’re okay,” he sighed in relief. “I thought I was going to lose you.”
Your mind was in a state of total blankness, as you tried to remember what happened.
“How long have I been sleeping?” you asked.
Hyun bin sat down on the chair next to the bed and held your hand. “For almost a week. The doctor’s said that if you didn’t wake up, they were going to pronounce you brain dead.”
Your right hand went up to your throat, as you felt a little uncomfortable there, until your fingers caught on a thin, cool piece of chain. Your eyes widened as you remembered about Kim Bum.
“Oppa, where’s Kim Bum?” You asked as you searched through his eyes.
But, Hyun bin’s face grew grim as he looked down at the floor.
Your eyes grew and glistened. “Op…pa. Where’s Kim Bum oppa?”
Hyun bin took in a deep breath before looking back at you. “He didn’t make it ~~~~~-ah…”
You felt like the whole world just collapsed upon you.
“W-what?”
Hyun bin sniffled. “I’m sorry ~~~~~-ah…but he didn’t make it…because he was trying to save you…”
You shook your head. “No…no…that’s not possible.”
Hyun bin smoothed your hair. “I’m sorry ~~~~~-ah….”
You flinched from your brother’s touch. “NO! HE’S NOT DEAD! OPPA ISN’T DEAD! LET ME GO SEE HIM! STOP SAYING HE’S DEAD! OPPA! OPPA!”
You were growing hysterical as doctors and nurses came into your room and eventually had to put you to sleep to calm you calm you down.

You woke up again, feeling foggy and groggy as you saw Hyun bin sitting next to you again, with the same expression he had on the last time you saw him.
You gulped. “Is he…really gone?” your voice cracked at the end of your sentence.
Hyun bin sighed and slightly nodded.
You took in deep, heavy breaths as you felt hot tears rolling down your face and you clung onto the necklace that Kim Bum had given you on the night of your birthday.
There was a soft knock at the door and in came a doctor, holding a clipboard in his hand.
“I see you’re finally awake ~~~~~-shhi,” he said. “How are you feeling?”
You didn’t respond.
“I’m sorry Doctor Cho,” Hyun bin apologized. “She’s not really in the mood to talk right now.”
Doctor Cho nodded. “I understand. I’m just here to do a quick check-up.”
Doctor Cho pressed a button on the side of your bed, which adjusted the bed so you were body was more in the shape of an ‘L’. He then put his hand in his jacket pocket and pulled out a small light and clicked it on. He went up close to your face and gently pulled on the bottom part of your eye and flashed the light in your eye. As he did, your eyes saw nothing but the bright flashing light from the accident.
*Flashback*
Of course I love you.” You answered back. He squeezed your hand and affectionately gazed at you, while you looked back, but you saw a white light through Kim Bum’s window. Your eyes widened as you gasped.
“Look out!” you shouted.
*End of Flashback*
Right then, you violently flinched and swung your head away from the light, like you’ve just gotten slapped in the face.
“~~~~~-ah, what’s wrong?” Hyun bin asked in concern.
You shook your head.
Doctor Cho frowned a little as he wrote some notes on his clipboard. He then clicked his pen and gave you a weak smile. “Why don’t you rest ~~~~~~-shhi.”
You nodded as you pulled the blanket over your body and closed your eyes.

MEANWHILE…
Hyun bin was in Doctor Cho’s office, sitting across from him.
“So what happened back then when you shone the light in front of ~~~~~-ah?” Hyun bin asked in curiosity.
Doctor Cho lightly sighed. “Well, it seems like she’s suffering from psychological trauma, due to the car accident she had a week ago. Wenever a light is shone in front of her eyes like what I did earlier, she will have a flashback of what happened during the accident, which causes her to flinch.”
Hyun bin slowly nodded as he was soaking in the information. “So…is there a way to solve the problem?”
“There isn’t exactly any treatment that we can do for ~~~~~-shhi that can help get rid of her psychological trauma, but perhaps if she could over come it herself, then can it be cured.” Doctor Cho said.
“So there’s a chance that she can’t overcome her trauma and be like this for the rest of her life?’
Doctor Cho slightly nodded. “Yes. There is that slight chance of a possibility of that happening.”
Hyun bin smoothed out his face in frustration. *So…my little sister can’t ever be the same?*

After another 3 weeks in the hospital, you were finally discharged and you were now resting in your room, but refused to eat, sleep, or take any phone calls regarding your friends. One day, you were in your room, just lying on your bed, when Hyun bin cautiously came into your room with a bowl of porridge on a tray. He sat next to you on your bed and helped you sit up and put the tray on your lap. He took the spoon and blew on it gently and held the porridge up to your lip.
“Say ah."
You tiredly looked at the spoon and looked away. “I’m not hungry…”
Hyun bin sighed as he set the spoon down and put the tray on your nightstand. He cupped your chin which made you face towards your brother, but you didn’t make eye contact with him.
“~~~~~~-ah, look at me.” Hyun bin ordered firmly.
Reluctantly, you looked at him and you noticed how tired he looked. He had bags under his eyes and his skin looked worn out and his face was written with hurt and pain.
“~~~~~-ah, you haven’t eaten, slept, or let alone anything else for the last 3 weeks and do you have any idea how much you’re worrying your friends? And not to mention how much you’re worrying me?”
You just looked your brother with big, tearful eyes as tears slipped down your face, and Hyun bin wiped them away with his thumb.
“~~~~~~-ah,” he said. “I know this is a really hard time for you the sudden accident really made an impact on you, but do you really think this is what Kim Bum would have wanted you to do? Practically waste yourself by refusing to do anything?”
You darted your eyes off to the side as you felt tears brimming your eyes. “I just…I just didn’t get a chance to say good-bye…” your voice slowly grew weak. “I didn’t even get to tell him I love him one last time…”
Hyun bin pulled you into a tight embrace as you softly cried into his chest, on his tear-stained shirt.
“You can still tell him that.” Hyun bin said. “His funeral’s this afternoon and I’m sure Kim Bum would want you there.”
Hyun bin pulled away from you and looked at you. “So…are you willing to go?”
You sniffled a couple of times, until you finally nodded. He gave you a weak smile.
“That’s my girl. Come on, let’s get you dressed.”

Avril Lavigne: When You're Gone
You were dressed up in a plain, black dress, with a black cardigan on top, and the two of you were driving to the funeral hall. When you arrived, Hyun bin helped you into a wheelchair, and steered it into the hall, as you were too weak to use crutches. The ceremony was quiet, and dark, as Kim Bum’s family was weeping at their loss. You closed your eyes as you blamed yourself for his death. When it was time to say your final good-byes at the casket, Hyun bin pushed you towards it and you shut your eyes as to what you were seeing. Kim Bum was lying peacefully in the casket, with a few scratches on his pale and lifeless face. You took your shaking hand and went to reach his hand, but instead of his warm embrace, it was ice cold.
Couldn’t take anymore of it, you looked away and Hyun bin pushed you away from the casket. After the ceremony, it was time for the condolences to the family and when it was your turn, you had nothing to say to them as you held your head low and shook your head. You felt someone take your hands and kneel down to your level.
“~~~~~~-ah, please look at me…” a woman’s voice, which was Kim Bum’s mother.
You shook your head. “I don’t even deserve to look at you. It was my fault he died…”
Kim Bum’s mother cupped your face and made you look at her.
“~~~~~~-ah, don’t blame yourself,” she said. “I’m sure when you two were involved in the accident, he would’ve wanted it to be himself rather than the one he loved.”
You slowly shook your head as you tried to keep your tears in.
Kim Bum’s mother gave you a hug and she rubbed your arm.
“Please don’t cry. He’s still here for you and he he’ll be watching over you, and protecting you.” She said.
You tears released and flowed down your porcelain face.

After the funeral, Hyun bin helped you to your room and you sat on your bed, looking at all the pictures of you and Kim Bum together being happy, silly, cute, kissing and everything in between. As you set them down off to the side, you clutched onto his necklace.
“Now that you’re gone…” you whispered. “I don’t think I can ever love again…”
