2AM: What Do I Do?
“~~~~~~~-ah? Where are you?” your parents called out.
Your head peeped up from the refrigerator as you saw your parents and your brother at the door to the kitchen. You shut the door as you were holding a small bottle of orange juice.
“It’s summer, I don’t have school,” you said as you twisted the bottle opened and took a gulp. That was the beauty of school. Though 10 months each year was meant for school, the two glorious months of summer was your two months to laze around and enjoy some fun in the sun with your friends.
“But…umma…appa…shouldn’t you be at the company?” you asked.
They looked at each other and looked back at you seriously. You gulped as you knew that look on your faces…
You were fucked up.
All of you were now in the family room, as your mother finally spoke up from the awkward silence.
“~~~~~~-ah, you know how we moved to Austrailia due to company reasons right?” she said.
You nodded. “Yeah…”
She sighed. “Well…after a long thought, your father and I have decided that we’re going to move back to Korea.”
“Okay…” you said. “When?”
Your mother looked at your father who then cleared his throat.
“Well, in Korea, their new school year starts in a week and in order for us to move back to Korea, your mother and I have to close off business matters here first.” Your appa explained. “But, it’ll take us more than a week to finish here. So, we’re going to send you to Korea first.”
The information wasn’t exactly registering through your mind. You just sat there, like a statue, until Seung gi waved his hand in front of your face.
“Hey, you okay?” he asked.
You shook your head. “What? Oh, sorry. So, what do you want to tell me?”
Your parents sighed.
“~~~~~~~-ah, you’re going to move back to Korea,” your mother answered.
You froze up like a snowman as you heard your mother’s exact words. Everything started to flow through your mind like a volcano that had just erupted. Just as that volcano of memories flooded through your brain, the anger filled up.
“I’M WHAT?!?!?!?!!?!?!” You shouted as you got up from your seat, outraged.
“You’re moving back to Korea,” your father repeated.
You sat back down and folded your arms across your chest. “I’m not moving.”
“~~~~~~-ah, I know this is hard for you, but you have to understand…” your mother pleaded.
You looked at your parents. “Umma! Appa! I like living here! It’s my last year in high school and I want to finish my last here! I mean, I’ve made friends here…a-and…the PROM! The prom is this year and I want to be able to go to my prom a-and g-graduation! And-“
“And you can do all of those things back in Korea,” you dad said. “~~~~~~-ah, we know that this is going to a little difficult to adjust to, you know, we’ve been leaving in Australia for 5 years now, but I’m sure you’ll get used to Korea.”
You drew circles with your feet on the floor. “But…why am I going alone?”
“You’re not going alone,” your mother said. “Just for the time being. Like your father said, we have to finish business matters here first before we can go back to Korea, and Seung gi is learning how to take care of the company when we step down.”
You deeply sighed. “Do I really have to?”
Your parents nodded.
You sighed once more as you looked at your parents. “When’s my flight?”

You were now at the airport, with a large suitcase and a carry-on bag, walking to the terminal with your brother, Seung gi, who was helping you with your luggage.
“I can’t believe I couldn’t bring all of my clothes and other stuff with me…” you mumbled to yourself.
Seung gi chuckled. “I’m sure you can buy more clothes when you’re in Korea. Besides, it’s not like you’re going to be living in a house with all the closet space in the world. You’re just staying at one of umma and appa’s hotels for the time being until they’ve settled everything here.”
Your parents were owners of the largest chain of hotels in Korea, others parts of Asia, and now Australia. And, since you were the heiress, you could come and go to any Lee Hotels as you pleased.
“Besides, your outfit already screams ‘I have a lot of clothes’ and your luggage doesn’t help either,” Seung gi commented.
You looked down at your outfit. You were dressed in a nice, breezy dress and in white ballet flats.

“What’s wrong with my outfit?” you asked.
Seung gi chuckled. “Nothing. Come on, you’re going to miss your flight if we don’t reach your terminal.” And he continued rolling your white Louis Vuitton suitcase.
The two of you continued walking until you reached your gateway that was soon to separate you from your brother. You gave him one last hug before taking your luggage from him.
“I’ll miss you for the next few weeks,” you said.
Seung gi smiled. “I’ll miss you too…but don’t worry, someone’s going to pick you up from the airport when you arrive…which I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to see.”
You thought about all the people that you knew in Korea until your eyes lit up. “Hyun joong oppa?!”
Seung gi nodded.
You giggled in excitement as you hugged your brother once more.
“Woah,” Seung gi said as he patted your back. “You better get going. Your flight’s going to leave soon.”
You broke apart and walked to a flight attendant who checked your passport and ticket. You waved one last time to your brother before the doors separated you from him.

You were now on the airplane, flying to South Korea and you were peacefully reading a book in first-class when the intercom went on.
“Good afternoon passengers,” the pilot spoke. “This is the pilot speaking. I would like to inform you that we will be arriving in Seoul very soon, so I would like to ask you to put your seats in the upright positions and buckle in your seatbelts. Thank you.”
You buckled your seatbelt and looked outside your window was you saw lands of Korea right below you. As you descended lower and lower to the ground, you got a clearer view of everything, until the plane had fully landed and you had finally arrived at the Incheon Airport. You grabbed your carry-on luggage and exited the airplane and to the terminal to find your luggage.
Meanwhile, Hyun joong was waiting outside the terminal exit waiting for your entrance. As people filed out, they were running to loved ones and friends and giving them hugs. When all that died down, Hyun joong saw you walking out of the terminal. With a smile on his face he waved to get your attention. You looked around the airport, until you saw a familiar face which made you smile and jog your way to Hyun joong. You put your luggage down and gave him a hug as he spun you around and set you down. Hyun joong slightly pulled away to get a closer look at you.
“Wow, you haven’t changed at all,” he commented.
You lightly hit his arm, “Am I supposed to take that as a compliment?”
Hyun joong chuckled, “Yeah. It means that you’re just as beautiful the last time I saw you.”
You smiled.
Hyun joong took your suitcase and started rolling it, while you walked side to side with Hyun joong.
“So, how is it to be back in Korea?” he asked.
You stretched your arms. “Well…I didn’t really want to come here at first. But, now that I’m here, it’s great to be back.”
Hyun joong smiled as he put your suitcase into his car and helped you into the passenger seat. You slid inside his car as Hyun joong walked over to the driver’s side and started to drive you to the hotel.

You arrived at a Lee’s Hotel as Hyun joong helped you get settled in and check in.
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay over at my place?” Hyun joong asked as he set your luggage in the bedroom of your hotel suite. “I mean, umma would love to have you stay over.”
You smiled. “No, I don’t want to be burdensome. But, I’ll visit soon. I really miss omonim.”
Hyun joong nodded and smiled. “Yeah, when I told umma that you were returning back to Korea, she was doing flips and summersaults all over the house.”
You laughed.
“Well, since you’re not going to be doing anything, why don’t you come over for dinner?” Hyun joong suggested. “Unless, jet lag is hitting you hard and you want to rest.”
You thought about it. Although you were a little tired, you hadn’t seen Hyun joong’s mother for 5 years and you really missed her. She was like your second mother. Whatever you needed when you were with Hyun joong, she provided.
“I’d like that,” you answered.
“Great,” Hyun joong said.
You grabbed your purse and followed Hyun joong back into his car and to his house. You took your phone out from your purse and called your brother.
“Yeoboseayo?” he answered.
“Hi oppa,” you said.
“~~~~~~~-ah! Are you in Korea?” Seung gi asked.
You giggled. “Yes I am. I’m going to Hyun joong’s house to visit omonim and stay there for dinner.”
“That’s good,” Seung gi replied. “Oh, since you’ve called, umma wanted me to tell you that she put two credit cards in your front suitcase pocket, you know, so you can shop for back-to-school supplies and clothes. She also wanted to tell you that she has already applied you to Hyun joong’s school so you don’t have to worry about not knowing anybody at your new school.”
You smiled. “Thanks oppa.”
“I miss you, I’ll see you soon okay?” Seung gi said.
“Uh-huh.”
“Love you,” Seung gi said over the phone.
“Love you too. Bye.” And you hung up the phone.
You put your phone back into your purse and looked out the window of Hyun joong’s car. You watched the buildings pass by through the passenger window as you lightly sighed.
*It’s good to be back…* you thought. *It’s good to be back…*
