Beep Beep Beep.
Your alarm clock rang.
You clicked it off.
You sleepily sat up and yawned.
You glanced at the clock: 8.
You smiled and stretched.
Sighing contently, you slipped your feet into your furry, white slippers and went into your private bathroom to wash up. You changed into clean clothes and ran downstairs to the kitchen. The aroma of coffee filled the air and you deeply breathed it in.
“Hi, mom.” you kissed her cheek.
“Hey, sweetie. Did you sleep well?” she poured herself a cup of coffee.
“Yes. And you?” you asked.
“Me, too.” she smiled.
You poured yourself some orange juice and sat on the table. Your mom nervously glanced at you then sat in front of you. “~~~~~~~-ah.”
“Yes?” you beamed at her.
Your mom paused then said, “Remember I told you that I was dating someone?”
“Oh. Yes. Mr. Lee?”
“Yes, him.” your mom nodded. “He… he proposed to me yesterday.”
Your eyes widened.
“And I accepted.” your mom cringed, as if she expected you to have a fit. But she should’ve remembered that you never threw fits. Ever.
You thoughtfully nodded, “Oh.”
“And I wanted to know… are you okay with that?” Your mom warily peered at you. Then she quickly said, “Because if you’re not, I can wait. I’ll tell Mr. Lee to cancel it.” “No no no.” you frantically waved your hands, “I’m okay with it. It’s fine.”
“Are you sure?” your mom asked once again.
“Do you love him? Does he make you happy?” you asked.
She nodded, “I do. And yes, he makes me very happy.”
You brightly smiled, “Then go for it. I’m behind you 100%.”
Your mom smiled in relief, “Thank you, sweetie.”
You smiled then looked away. Honestly, in the back of your head, you were worrying about your dad. That your mom would forget him.
Right then, she put her hand on top of yours and squeezed it, “Although I’m getting married to another man, your dad will always be the first love in my life and I will never forget him. He left me with you and that is the best present of all.”
You also smiled in relief, “Thanks, mom.”
“Now go get ready. Mr. Lee invited us to visit his home today.” your mom patted your hand.
“Okay. I’ll be right back.” you ran upstairs.
