Chapter 9

Revealed Past

J laid himself on his bed. He is weary both physically and mentally. He is relieved after he had a few chats with Uncle Dan just now, but he’s too scared to know the result of the investigation. He closed his eyes and the things happened during the day rewinding on his head. He’s in pain to hear such words from Aimi, prohibiting him from meeting Ami. And later he heard few knocks on his door. It’s Ken, who pretends to know nothing; came in to have few chats but noticed his gloomy face.

“Doushita?” Ken asked shortly. He sat on the edge side of J’s bed, near his feet. J can’t help himself from hiding the things, so he blurted all his worries out to him.

“Kore mite. What do you think?” J showed Dean’s photo he attached to his diary to Ken. Ken was shocked; rubbing his eyes for it might just his dream to see they’re totally alike.

“Kore…”

“My late wife Dean; former student of Economical Department. She’s died when she’s a sophomore, sixth days after we married…” J explained. Ken knew about J has been married once, but he never knew to whom he’s married. He wants to ask, but afraid of it might hurt him, so he kept his mouth shut.

“Uso darou?!” Ken is still astounded, he paused for a few while; take a deep look at the photo before asked,

“Wait! You guys married in December 2002, which was 5 years ago…masaka. Are you sure she died?”

“Nani itteru no? She died in front of my eyes…but now I’m less sure about everything. I don’t know if I’m dreaming of her 5 years ago, or now I’m dreaming to see Aimi as Dean!” J ends as his eyes began to tears.

“Sou…gomen. But Jun, I don’t know if it had across your mind too…her daughter…” J and Ken exchanged their looks.

“How did you know Ami is her daughter, not younger sister?” J asked changing the topic.

“A…ahh. I accidentally bumped into her this evening, while her daughter was there to call her “Kaa-chan” instead of “Nee-chan” Ken lied on the fact he met Aimi in person to ask her not to let Ami meets J anymore. He is feeling a slight guilty for what he has done today. And he can’t take his words back…

“Jun, let’s find it out together! Let me help you, ok?” Ken tried to erase his guilty feeling.

“Ii yo. I’m tired, I need to rest. We talk about it tomorrow…” J replied as he’s not interested others bulk in his private matters.
