.building tension.

“Ugh!” Dana groaned later for the nth time. “It’s not so difficult to understand!” she said, walking to where the F4 was standing. “Vanness first sits on the ledge, and when he jumps down, THAT'S when Vic starts to sing,” she told them, and looked at Vanness, who was leaning against the ledge.

They were all already at the balcony of the Griffith observatory for the last shot for the day, and seemed to be getting nowhere. None of them felt like shooting.

She turned to Vanness. “Don’t, I repeat, don’t jump down before your line ends,” she said, and then turned to Vic. “And don’t start singing your line just because HE'S already jumped down. You know the song anyway, I really don’t see what the problem is!”

“It’s your directing,” Ken muttered under his breath.

But Dana had heard it. She turned to him and scowled. “I suppose you think you could do better?”

“No, because BETTER would be implying that you’re already doing a good job,” he said frostily.

“Do you want this video done or don’t you?” she asked.

“Not with you as a director,” he said.

“Fine!” she said angrily and then turned to the crew. “Does anyone else think that Ken should still be in this video? He has the least number of lines anyway.”

The crew just looked at each other with puzzled faces, not wanting to say a word.

Dana turned back to Ken. “You can leave anytime you want,” she said.

Ken was taken aback. He’d meant to irritate her so she would quit, so Dave could find someone else, even if the replacement wouldn’t be as good as she was—as he had noticed that she seemed to really know what she was doing as she was always checking everything, not just the lighting but also the positions of even the birds that would pass by every so often, but her attitude was just way too much to take. How many insults must they stomach in a day? And what the hell did she care how many lines he had? The F4 was a group and everyone had an important part. What right did she have to ask him to leave instead of quitting herself?

“Well?” she asked, raising her eyebrows at him.

“I’m not leaving them with YOU,” he said, hoping he didn’t look too stupid as he said it as he had embarrassed himself again on set.

“Then stop whining,” she said and headed back to behind the camera.

I wasn’t whining, Ken thought, even more frustrated than before. She was treating them like children, when they were all older than her. He shook his head to clear it. The sooner they finished the video, the better.
