Chapter 12

“You’re standing too far away from each other,” the director of the show, who had arrived just a few minutes after ASOS, Edwin Ho, said the moment Liz and Jerry started talking on the stage.

The two celebrities walked towards each other and started reading from the teleprompter again.

“No!” Edwin said loudly. “Are you actors or aren’t you?!” he said angrily.

“Actually sir, I’m an ACTRESS,” Liz joked.

A lot of people laughed. But Edwin Ho just frowned. “Oh you think you’re smart, huh?” he said. “Then tell me Ms. Chang, why is it that you’ve been on stage for more than 20 minutes and we still haven’t finished the first five minutes of the script?”

Liz bit her lip.

“Stop kidding around,” Jerry hissed.

Edwin rolled his eyes. “Let’s start again,” he said, and then pointed towards the stage. “Go.”

“Good evening Liz and good evening everyone. Welcome to the Taiwan—OW!” Jerry exclaimed as soon as he felt someone stomp on his feet. “Why’d you do that?” he shouted at Liz.

“You were reading my line!” she said, frowning.

“It wasn’t your line!”

“Yes it was!” she said and pointed at the teleprompter. “Look again! You need to get your eyes checked.”

“And you need to—“

“Shut up!” Edwin shouted and stood up. “Listen you two, I don’t have time for this nonsense so why don’t you just come down from the stage and settle this lover’s quarrel while the rest of us professionals work.”

“What?!” Jerry and Liz said at the same time.

“This is NOT a lover’s quarrel,” Liz said.

“I am NOT unprofessional,” Jerry argued.

“Yeah, I don’t care,” Edwin said. “Step down please.”

Jerry groaned and started to walk towards the steps that led down from the stage.

“Wait,” Liz said. “You mean we’re not hosting the show anymore?”

Edwin frowned when he saw the disappointed look in her eyes. If there was anything he hated more than conceited actresses, it was conceited actresses with undeniably great talent like hers. “Miss Chang,” he said in a calmer tone. “If it wasn’t too late to look for a replacement, I’d have already removed you from the show as soon as you stepped on that stage. But since we’re out of time, I suggest you and Mr. Yan settle your differences quickly and we’ll just get back to you later,” he said.

“Settle our WHAT?!” Liz exclaimed.

“Get back to us later?!” Jerry said, confused. “What are we supposed to do until then?” he asked and both he and Liz looked at the director expectantly.

“Right,” Edwin said, and then paused as if to think. “I don’t care,” he said, frowning and then almost shouted, “Next presentors please!”

Liz and Jerry both groaned as they got off the stage.

Liz met Sean as he was coming up the steps to the stage where she and Jerry were passing to get down.

“I thought you were doing great,” Sean said as he patted her shoulder and smiled.

“Thanks,” she smiled back, ad thought she heard Jerry, who was just beside her, grumble. “That means a lot,” she told Sean and let Jerry go ahead.
