“You mean Vanness and Ken already told you?” Jerry said, surprised. News really traveled fast. “I asked her out earlier at rehearsal. I’m really excited.
“Who wouldn’t be?” Vic said.
“Exactly,” Jerry agreed.
“I can’t believe you’re hogging the limelight again, though,” Vic said, jokingly. “I was supposed to have the exciting news.”
Jerry laughed. “Let’s just hear it and decide later which one’s more exciting.”
“Okay,” Vic agreed. “One of the producers of the TNMA called me up and told me that I’m not just a guest for tomorrow’s show.”
“Really? You’re presenting an award too?”
“Nope,” Vic said. “I’m performing 'Make A Wish' as an intermission number!” he said happily.
“That’s great!” Jerry said. “Now we all get to go up the stage.”
“If Ken and Vanness win,” Vic said, laughing.
“Right!” Jerry said, laughing as well. “The TNMA this year’s going to be great.”
“That’s actually why I called,” Vic said. “Since you’re hosting tomorrow’s show and introducing me, I was wondering, instead of just saying ‘let’s give a round of applause for Vic Zhou’, could you say my full name?”
“Vic Zhou Yu Min?” Jerry asked.
“No,” Vic replied. “The Incredible Vic Zhou Yu Min,” he said, laughing.
Jerry laughed as well. “What are you, a magician?”
“Come on, please?” Vic insisted.
“No,” Jerry said, though he was still laughing. “That’s silly!”
“It’s not silly! You can say—“
“Good night Vic,” Jerry said, shaking his head in silent laughter.
“Fine, fine,” Vic said, giving up. “Good night,” he said and hung up the phone.
Jerry put his phone down as he rolled his eyes and started for his bedroom.
And then his phone rang again.
“I’m not saying the Incredible Vic,” he immediately said into the receiver.
“Who said you would?” the voice belonged to his manager Dave.
“Oh, hey Dave, sorry ‘bout that,” Jerry apologized. “ZaiZai was being silly again.”
“Right,” Dave said nonchalantly. “And apparently so are you.”
“What do you mean?”
“What’s this I heard about you asking Ms. Chang as your date tomorrow night?”
“Oh right, about that,” Jerry said. “Could you give me her address? ‘Coz I’m supposed to pick her up before the awards and—“
“What were you thinking?” Dave cut him off.
“What?” Jerry asked, puzzled.
“Did I not already tell you that you’re supposed to arrive at the TNMA with Ella Chen, you know, your co-star?”
Jerry thought for a while and vaguely remembered Dave telling him about it a few days ago. “I didn’t think you were serious.”
“Well, right now I’m very very serious,” Dave said in an almost angry tone. “You have to give the impression that you and Ella are friends, close buddies, you know? So people would continue supporting your show.”
“Then why didn’t they just pick Ella as my co-host?” Jerry asked, irritated.
“Because we wouldn’t want you two to get too close. Or people would think you’re no longer available,” he said.
“Well I’m NOT available. I’m dating Liz Chang,” he said stubbornly.
“Jerry,” Dave started, his voice deeper. “This is bad for your career. You cannot let your personal life get in the way of your public image. You know unavailable men have less fans.”
“But it’s not like I can please everyone anyway,” he argued.
Dave sighed, exasperated. “Do you want your show with Ella to be a success or don’t you?”
Jerry bit his lip and shook his head. Dave caught him there. Because despite everything Liz had told him earlier, he didn’t want his career to just be fun. He wanted it to be great. “I do,” he told his manager.
“Then who are you taking to the TNMA tomorrow night?”
Jerry sighed in defeat. “Ella,” he said.
“That’s the professional actor I know,” Dave said satisfied, and hung up.

:: author's note ::
okay. are there any objections about ella chen as jerry's co-star? i sure hope not. it's just that i can't think of any other celebrity. i'm just not that knowledgeable on taiwanese stars. do you have any suggestions? and please don't say barbie, because i can't make it barbie, because barbie's got a different role in this story, which you'll find out later on.
and yes, it doesn't seem likely that vic and jerry actually talk on the phone, but it's a fanfic anyway, so please i hope you bear with it and keep reading, please?
thanks! ^_^
