Chapter 16

.taiwan national movie awards.

Upon Jerry’s stepping out of the limo with co-star Ella Chen, the crowd lining the red carpet that led to the entrance of the concert hall where there TNMA was held, went wild. Some were chanting ‘Jerry and Ella’ while others were wondering where in the world was Liz. One fan even went so far as to shout that Jerry and Liz looked better together than Jerry and Ella. Of course, die-hard Jerry and Ella fans began chanting louder if only to show that girl that there were more of them. Several reporters kept asking Jerry if the rumor that he and Liz were a couple was true, and others were asking Ella about it.

The co-stars just shrugged and smiled at the cameras without giving any comment to the fans, nor to the reporters.

The same went for Liz and Sean when they were the ones to walk the red carpet. Although in this case, some reporters noticed, that for the first time, Liz Chang actually looked a bit irritated and it was obvious that her smile was less than genuine. They all of course found this very odd as one of the things that made Liz Chang famous in the first place was her unwavering smile—come bad publicity or what.

But everything was really just speculation as none of the other stars and producers and managers gave any statement about the issue.

Nonetheless, the entire hall fell silent when it was announced that the program was about to start and that the hosts—Jerry Yan and Liz Chang, were about to come out. Everyone held their breath as they watched the two walk towards each other from the two sides of the stage.

Jerry held his breath along with them, as he was thinking while he walked towards his co-host, that he was walking towards an angel.

Because Liz had never looked better. In her long silver gown, with her hair curled around her shoulders and her lips as red as a newly blossoming crimson rose, she forced herself to smile at Jerry, and then at the audience, as she started to read from the teleprompter, all the while still wondering how a smart girl like her could believe that a perfectionist PROFESSIONAL such as Jerry Yan, who cared about nothing else but his career, could actually see things her way.

And as Jerry read his lines as response to the things she had just said, he couldn’t help but feel how cold the atmosphere between them was. They were both smiling and delivering their dialogue excellently, but Jerry was incredibly disappointed that the rapport that he and Liz had more than developed yesterday at the rehearsal was no longer there. He called the first presentors onto the stage, all the while still thinking how he would explain to Liz why he didn’t pick her up for the TNMA, and if he did find a way to get her to listen, if there was really a chance that she’d forgive him.
