Chapter 8

.hot date?.

“You’re leaving early again?” Vic said, noticing that Jerry was again fixing his things as soon as they got inside the hotel room after their press conference at the hotel ballroom that afternoon.

“Don’t tell us it’s another meeting for the TNMA,” Vanness said. “Rehearsal’s tomorrow already.”

“Supposedly,” Jerry said bitterly as he zipped his backpack closed.

“So it IS a hot date this time?” Vanness asked.

“Why ‘supposedly’?” Ken asked, puzzled.

Jerry felt his cheeks turn red as he explained what happened two days ago when he got to the meeting.

The F3 laughed as hard as they could.

“Hey! I was tired, okay?” Jerry said defensively. “You were there, you know how tiring the photo shoot was.”

But the F3 just chuckled at their flustered friend.

“Wait, so Dave called another meeting just for you?” Ken asked, finally stopping from laughing.

“Not with everyone, just with my co-presentor,” Jerry replied. “Ms. Chang something or other.”

Vanness’ eyes widened. “You’ve got a meeting with Elizabeth Chang? Then that IS a hot date!” he suddenly said.

Ken and Vic turned to Jerry. “Why didn’t you tell us you were meeting with Liz Chang?” Ken asked.

Wait, Jerry thought, confused. Ms. Chang was Elizabeth Chang? As in, Liz Chang, top female model of nearly all local women’s magazines as well as some foreign ones, and star of many movies, and the new drama ‘Out of My League’, whose ratings were just as high as Meteor Garden’s when it first came out? That Ms. Liz Chang was his co-presentor? He looked at them. “Are you sure? There are a lot of Changs around, maybe it’s another one,” he said, although that WOULD explain why she had such VIP treatment at the meeting.

“I’m sure it’s her,” Vic said. “I’ve read that programme about a million times to check if I just missed my own name. And her name was right beside yours.”

“And what about your name?” Ken asked him.

Vic frowned. “It was just under guests,” he said. “It was beside yours and Vanness’ though.”

“But not beside Liz Chang’s,” Vanness said. “You have no idea how lucky you are Jerry.”

“You’re right, I don’t,” Jerry said, frowning. So the hateful Ms. Chang was the same person as the beautiful model Elizabeth Chang. He rolled his eyes, deciding that beauty was just skin deep after all, and suddenly not feeling at all excited about his meeting with THE Elizabeth Chang. He looked at his watch. If he wanted to make it on time, he should be leaving then. But he wanted Liz Chang to wait, much like she made him wait two days ago. I can even not show up, he thought, but quickly dismissed it when he remembered what Dave said about his having to adlib and it wasn’t that he couldn’t, but he didn’t want to look like a bumbling fool either. He sighed and slung his backpack over his shoulder. “I gotta go,” he said to the F3.

“Good luck man,” Vanness called.

Jerry raised an eyebrow at him. “With what?” he asked.

But Vanness just winked and the F2 waved their hands.

Jerry shook his head in silent laughter as he headed out of the room. The F3 were so silly.
