A Perfect Liar

Chapter 9

Smile

周杰伦:
Xiao Yu: This song is for you.

(Duet)"Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile."
(listen to the Glee version, it'll be perfect!)

I really love singing duets with Xiao Yu.
She may not be perfect pitch, but she is real, original and natural.
That makes the biggest difference amongst all the duets I have sang with other singers.
It becomes so tiring when singers pretend and stretch their voices beyond their limits.

But Xiao Yu is so real.
She doesn't sing to please, but rather sing for pleasure.
She would be a real big hit in Taipei.

We are sitting at her house front porch with me strumming her brother's guitar.
It's a golden piece.
Evidently, all musical instruments are meticulously made for perfection.

Me: Its beautiful, we should sing together more often.

Xiao Yu: (Blushed) I've never really sang much, much less an entire song in duet.

Me: Oh we did! At the meadows.

Xiao Yu: That wasn't even true real duet-ing!

Me: Will your parents be bothered if they see me with you?

Xiao Yu: I don't think so, I'm 24! But they are strict. Actually, we better get going before they come back.

Me: Hey, (holds her hand) I really like doing this. Singing so freely, happily, beautifully.

Xiao Yu: I'm happy to see you smile.

That was when I leaned in to kiss her.

Xiao Yu: I'm going to have a heart attack.

Me: Hahaha! You are full of nonsense.

Xiao Yu: I'm serious! Boys don't like me very much.

Me: But I like you, and I like your smile.

Xiao Yu smiled her signature smile again. So sweet and perfect.
I caressed her face, the face I will always love.
Everything felt so perfect. A perfect God-given girl.

And I am never letting her go.
