Ray *runs over to where Jessica’s standing*: Hun, this is good! You’re starting to get better with this now.
Jessica *teasingly* You’re just saying that so you won’t have to sit around and finalize the plans tonight.
Wallace *glances at the two, smiling and thinking*: I wish Cyndi is here right now so I could be like those two.
Alice * walking by*: Ge. What are you smiling about?
Wallace *snaps out of his trance*: Nothing! Stop sneaking up on me!
Alice: I’m not. The others saw me walked by. You’re just too busy daydreaming to notice.
Wallace: Whatever.
Alice: Whatevers are for girls to say, ge.
Wallace: Stop with the gender role thing.
Alice *shrugs*: Ge, loosen up. I’m joking.
The microwave bell dings. Wallace moves over to it and retrieves his little dessert. He sets it up on the table while Alice gets extra plates and spoons from the cabinet above the sink.
Charmaine: Hey, how about we eat dessert in the living room? We can sit in a much more comfortable position to enjoy it.
Jessica: Great idea!
Ray helps Jessica with moving the desserts while Charmaine and Mandy set up the chairs in a circular position next to the sofa and loveseat. Wallace brings his dessert to the coffee table while Alice brings the plates and spoons she was holding before. They go back and forth, getting the iced tea from the fridge and glasses from the cabinets. Kevin and Mr. Cho walk over to the living room to join them.
Kevin puts the files they were looking at earlier on a nearby shelf before sitting down next to Mandy on the loveseat. Charmaine’s between Mandy and Alice. Ray and Jessica sit on the sofa with Mr. Cho while Wallace is on the chair next to Mr. Cho. There are still two seats left between him and Alice.
Wallace pours iced tea for everyone. Everyone passes around full glasses to the people at the end and empty glasses to Wallace until they all have full glasses. Charmaine and Mandy cut the cake-like dessert they were making before and put it on different plates. Alice, at the same time, tries to handle Wallace’s special dessert the best she could. Wallace takes over when he’s done pouring the iced tea.
They did all that in silence until Mr. Cho bite into Mandy’s dessert.
Mr. Cho: Ummm *swallowing before speaking* This is sooo good.
He sounds like a young man again when he said that.
Mandy: Thanks, Mr. Cho. My mom used to make that. I learned it from her. She’s much better with it though.
Mr. Cho: My 2nd wife used to make that too. I thought no one would make it the way she does. Now I can taste it again. Brings me back years ago.
Kevin takes a sip of the iced tea, observing Mr. Cho’s facial expressions at the same time.
Kevin: This is good, man!
Wallace smiles at the compliment.
Mandy takes a sip of the iced tea too.
Wallace: Take a bite of the dessert.
Mandy takes a bite out of Wallace’s Jell-O-like dessert.
Mandy: Oohh. This feeling is so weird. But it’s soooo good!
Alice: Ge, are you going to tell me the ingredients later?
Wallace: Dream on, sis.
Alice: You’re mean! I’m your own sister.
Wallace *taking a bite out of Mandy’s dessert*: Sorry, I’ll only teach my future wife. *his smiles changes into a surprised expression, looks at Mandy* Whoa! Did you use what I think you did?
Mandy: What?
Wallace *smiling secretly*: My sister is here so you don’t want her to know and then write about it. But it’s that special green leaf.
Mandy: How did you know?
Wallace: Experience. *smiles & winks*
Alice: Ge has an Emperor’s tongue. He can detect any type of food if he can just taste it.
Mandy *smiling*: That’s impressive.
Alice: Have you found your future wife yet, ge?
Wallace chokes on the piece of cake he’s swallowing.
Alice: Does that mean yes?
Wallace grabs his iced tea, downing it to ease his coughing fit.
There’s a knocking at the door.
Ray *looks at his watch*: Who could be here this late?
Charmaine walks to the door while Ray’s saying that. Kevin’s behind her since he doesn’t want intruders in at this hour. Charmaine opens the door to see Annie and Cyndi standing there.
Charmaine *smiles*: Hi!
Kevin: Annie! Cyndi! Come on in! We’re celebrating someone’s birthday right now and would love it if you two join in. *smiles*
Annie: I just want to come by to thank you for helping me last night.
Charmaine steps aside and opens the door for the two girls to walk in while Kevin leads them into the living room.
Wallace stands up upon seeing Cyndi’s presence.
Wallace: Hi! Sit here! *pointing to the seat next to him*
Alice *watching & smiling at her brother’s indescribable happiness*: So is this my future sister-in-law?
Wallace *nervous laugh*: My sister loves to joke.
Annie had settle down next to Cyndi while Kevin returns to his place next to Mandy. Charmaine, after closing the door, had walk to the kitchen to get extra plates, spoons, and glasses for the girls.
Kevin: It’s Mr. Cho’s birthday by the way. *pointing toward Mr. Cho*
Cyndi & Annie: Happy birthday, sir!
Mr. Cho smiles at the two girls.
Charmaine comes back into the living room and sits next to Alice. Alice helps her divide the desserts up and pours some iced tea into the glasses. In actuality, Charmaine’s trying to cut the desserts for Annie and Alice’s pouring Annie’s drink out. At the same time when Charmaine’s cutting the desserts for Annie, Wallace’s doing it for Cyndi. When Alice’s done pouring the drink for Annie, Wallace grabs the thermos out of her hand and pours the drink for Cyndi.
Charmaine and Alice stare at him and then at each other. Alice shrugs, sending Charmaine the message that she doesn’t know what’s going on either. They go back to eating their desserts. The others were a bit shocked of what Wallace’s doing, except for Cyndi – who’s smiling at Wallace warmly. Annie, who’s busy tasting the dessert being sent her way and staring at Kevin that she doesn’t know what’s going on to begin with. Only Mr. Cho knows, from experience, that Wallace’s in love.
Wallace *talking to Cyndi like no one’s around*: Taste this after you drink the iced tea. I made it. Then you can try the other desserts. *pointing to Cyndi which dessert on the plate is his*
Alice *teasing*: Ge, I think she knows which one’s yours since you cut such a big piece for her.
Wallace gives Alice a dagger-look while Cyndi’s bending down to get the iced tea glass. The others could only smile.
Cyndi drinks the iced tea first and then tries Wallace’s dessert like he told her to.
Cyndi: Ummm…this is good! How did you learn to make it? *looking over at Wallace*
Wallace *flashing on his charming smile*: It’s a secret.
Alice: That you will know soon!
Wallace gives Alice another dagger-look while Cyndi’s focusing on her plate. He changes the look back into the charming smile when Cyndi looks at him again. The others stay silent to watch, trying to figure out where this is going. Ray couldn’t help it anymore, he laughs out loud.
Ray: You are just too much, man! What happened to the “calm and collected” man I worshipped this morning?
Alice *jumps in before Wallace could defend himself*: That man isn’t home right now. Please come back later.
Ray and Alice laugh at the same time.
Wallace ignores them and continues to talk to Cyndi.
Mr. Cho smiles at the happy scene that these young people are paving in front of him, feeling all warm inside. He haven’t experience such a scene for a long, long time now. But he knows all things must come to an end.
