“He’s up?” Tim asked.
“Yea,” Alice replied, nodding.
“When do you want to go home? I’ll take you.”
Alice looks back at the door.
“I’ll come back later to check on them. You’d been here all day and haven’t eaten anything yet.”
Alice stands up. “Okay. I’ll just go in and tell ge.”
Alice pushes the door open and steps into the room. Wallace had lain back down again and Cyndi’s sitting next to his bed like before.
“Ge, I’m going home with Tim,” Alice said. “I’ll come back later. Do you need anything? I’ll bring it to you.”
Wallace sits up. “No.” He looks over to Cyndi. “You can take Cyn home too since I’m sure she’s tired just like you.”
“I’m not tired,” Cyndi said.
“I’ll just go buy you something to eat then,” Tim offered, having been standing by Alice’s side the whole time.
Cyndi looks up at Tim. “Thank you.”
“Let’s go,” Tim said to Alice.
The two of them leaves the hospital through the back entrance. Alice’s walking slowly with her head down.
“You okay?” Tim asked. “Exhausted, huh?”
“I don’t know if Ray’s right,” Alice said.
“About what?”
“Maybe we should go see a fortune-teller or something. I meant what’s with everything happening lately.”
“Wallace’s just tired from over-working himself.”
“I know. I just meant since the end of last month, things haven’t been going well. Maybe it’s me who’s bringing him bad luck. I mean……nothing like this happened before.”
“Don’t say that. You’re just here at the wrong time, that’s all. Don’t be superstitious. Everything will be all right in the end. We have cops here working around the clock to sort out all of these.”
“Will they ever solve it though?”
“You don’t have much faith in cops, huh?”
“Like anyone around here has it.”
“At least you can believe in Jacky. He’s on our side now, working close to us. Unlike the other cops.”
Alice shrugs but doesn’t say anything further.
“Don’t look so sad. Maybe we’ll have good news soon.”
Alice sighs out.
Tim doesn’t want to say anything further since he wants to give Alice some time in silence.
